Wow man I was absolutely blown away by this game. I played it mainly due to wanting to play the devs next game, Alabaster Dawn, and figured I should play this first while that game is in early access, and thank god I did. Every aspect of this game is just overflowing with style. The visuals, the characters, the story, the gameplay, it all flows incredibly well and every aspect compliments each other. There's also just an incredible amount of game here. Start to finish with doing almost every side quest and most of the chests, this took me around 65 hours, plus an extra 10-15 for the dlc, which is also fantastic

Meu unico "ponto negativo".

Just finished the dlc. I've played through the main story twice and the dlc once now. Done plenty of sidequests, grinded the best equipment, I have a had a rather full experience of this game. I did the whole thing on controller and cannot comment on the keyboard experience. I recommend this game to people who like studying mechanics and rules and figuring out how to break them. This sounds like a very dull thing, but the final final dungeon was so exciting because everything I learned came together; everything was "It works like that? That's so cool!". You can certainly enjoy the game without such a mindset, but that was mine, and this game gave me what I wanted. I think that the heart of CrossCode's gameplay is the fact that everything is a puzzle. The dungeons have puzzles, navigating to the secret areas and treasures are layers of puzzle, the enemies are mini puzzles that you solve to beat them. The three "final" bosses are puzzles (they all felt like final bosses and I appreciate that very much; "more finale, more good" is my preference). This means that the game does demand some patience if you want to beat it, there will be a puzzle in this game that will trip you up. The grind is honestly genius. You do feel betrayed the first time you realize what's going on, but I appreciate it. The grind is entirely optional and acts as a kind of difficulty slider. You can just use money to buy the basic gear in the next town you enter, it's good enough to beat the game. The fun perk gear is locked behind the sidequests and the trading, but these are also powercrept by the next town, so grinding only temporarily gets you ahead of the difficulty, but even then I didn't think the game was much of a stat check; the better you are the less stats you need. Stats mostly matter for the minor enemies, bosses are mostly puzzles was my experience, and I liked it (the second boss I call "final"
The dlc dungeon boss
does stat check the player a little in my opinion, but that made the hours grinding the best gear feel like a good investment, this is my interpretation, the money gear is good enough I'm sure,). If the game is too hard you can adjust the damage enemies do to the player. Nobody judges you because nobody knows. Play your way. I found joy in overcoming the challenge, other people don't. If executing the puzzles is hard there is a slider for that too. People who play it tend to agree that the combat is a blast. Topdown action combat, with melee and ranged options. Some enemies push you to use ranged attacks, some are better parried, some are better melee'd. Enemies often have clear openings for when you can attack them, but you have special attacks that allow you to force more opportunities. It's really a joy to find out the different interactions. You have different elements that tend towards different playstyles, but you can mostly force them to do what you like. The dungeon design is great apart from "that one puzzle" in the desert temple (If you've played the game you know which one it is, if you don't it's the one where you can't see how the ball is bouncing). Dungeons have many puzzles with some combat encounters (Radical Fish's next game "Alabaster Dawn" gives the impression of having more combat between its puzzles). Both teach you mechanics for the boss battles. The way the game teaches you things and then has you use them is brilliant. Some people seemed to not like the writing because it wasn't like a real MMO. I wouldn't know. I liked the characters. I did not care for the CrossWorlds lore, I was more interested in its players. The story starts off pretty straightforward but then derails in the second half and becomes brilliant with big world warping plot twists. I like that kind of thing, other people don't. The story runs on two levels as a result, playing through CrossWorlds and learning about who the characters are. I think that the latter outshines the former, but that is what I would expect. There are an incredible number of sidequests. Some of them, especially early on, are quite simple, but they escalate into one off minigames and secret bosses. I think that trading was a good place to put the optional grind. And sometimes it's worth it because the gear can be traded up multiple times to keep up with the game. DO NOT SELL THE DRILL. Just don't. The DLC was awesome. After my first playthrough I did begin playing the DLC, but I gave up; I guess I was fatigued and I didn't want to put up with
C'Tron coming back
I didn't get the point why it was happening. I stuck with it after the second playthrough and think it was all a good story, well told some key points are brushed over
-Sidewell finally being brought to justice. -If the Lea board doesn't feature with Lea in her upcoming crossovers I will be very disappointed. I want to hear what she has to say!
. Excellent game. I'll come back to it in 10 years and probably say it has aged most wonderfully. The game is not for everyone, but it gave me what I wanted.
