Cross The Boundaries

A fantastically told, emotional rollercoaster of a story full of fanservice for fans of Touhou extended universe (am I allowed to call it that). Even if you're not familiar with the central characters, this is a great game.

Provided Labyrinth of Touhou 3 doesn't release in the next few months, I think I've found my Touhou fangame of the year right here. Cross the Boundaries is a horror-puzzle-adventure game and turned into an absolute sleeper hit to me. From its presentation, it seemed very quaint at first, only to greatly exceed my expectations in how emotionally invested I would be. I also really appreciated that its horror is very perilous rather than only being creepy and atmospheric. Those usually oh so adorable Gensokyo girls have teeth! And they'll use them if you let them... There have been a few creative redesigns of characters here and they are absolutely fantastic, with my favourite being probably [spoiler]mythologically accurate Wakasagihime[/spoiler] The puzzles were quite good - not too easy but never too illogical - and the game has the perfect, respectable length for what it is. One word of warning and a small criticism at the same time: You can't save during the visual novel sections. The one after the Prologue is the chunkiest with roughly half an hour of length. So if you're in a hurry, try to take a break before the conclusion of an adventure chapter and don't do the same oopsie as I did. In conclusion, within the niche of Touhou horror games, Cross the Boundaries is my new favourite. This niche may be only occupied by three or four games, but I doubt it'll be toppled from its throne any time soon.

Fantastic game in the story, art, music, and references to Touhou lore with some fun puzzles. Main problems is how there's only one save file and this game really needs an update to fix all the typos I started noticing.

Very emotional to me, made me cry. Found what i search on "little horror & emotional project" and worked very efficiently on me. Thank you Ziel for the story, really liked the way it went and the references. Thanks AlfredPros and NG to make it work. Thanks Shii for all the pictures and work, really liked most designs. Maybe in the end the events were "too static" with all the dilogues that were in one scene, but the emotional level is ++. Thanks Perception and Aidan for composing. Just made a little seance to hear them multiple times.
