I'll keep it short. I enjoyed what I played. PROS: Unique characters for a game made in RPG Maker. Fluid movement Interesting story CONS: Lack of direction at times Controls are a little weird Buggy at times I also made a playthrough video of the game. I was unable to finish the game. Idk if that was due to a bug or my lack of intelligence. I got stuck at the lantern part. You can see around 15 mins in the video https://youtu.be/x8QfcBl7C94 am I dumb or is this a bug? Either way, highly recommend.
zerei em live.. muito bom, puzzles faceis (me perdi pq sou burro) historia mt boa (me perdi pq sou burro kkkk) vale a pena!!!
I love indie horror games, and I always appreciate a uniquely unsettling aesthetic, which this game has in spades. You play as a man hired to find an occult book. As you search, you will encounter deadly demons, and uncover the tragic history of the land you're on. There are multiple endings based on the dialogue choices you make. Again, the aesthetic is refreshingly unique, especially during some of the cut scenes. The sound effects are great, and definitely add to the atmosphere of the whole thing. Despite being on the short side, it still has a well fleshed out story to boot. Not just with text, but the story is also presented wonderfully through dramatic visuals. Awesome, awesome game. Looking forward to playing the developer's other titles in the future. :)
Like many great indie horror titles, Crimson Ranch is dark, weird and unsettling. The simple RPG Maker presentation belies a well crafted narrative filled with strange iconography, bizarre rituals, nightmarish monstrosities and sinister arrangements between the forces of good and evil. The story follows the intertwining fates of several hapless characters, all set around the plantation house of Crimson Ranch. Likely set in late 19th century America, there are period specific narrative choices which some may find upsetting, but help to underpin the bleak and harsh reality of life at that time. Each character is either looking for, benefitting from, or trying to destroy a cursed book which may hold the power of resurrection. The game plays a little like a survival horror in that the map must slowly be unlocked through finding objects or solving puzzles, and there are enemy encounters which must be avoided. Given the limitations of the RPG Maker engine, the variety of puzzles is quite imaginative. While there will be little to truly perplex those familiar with the genre, there are some sections which will provide a decent challenge. There is absolutely no combat and the player character can only survive a couple of hits before dying, but this helps to heighten the overall feeling of tension and constant danger. This is clearly a labour of love; twisted, dark and harrowing love, but love nonetheless. There is a pretty distinctive visual style which remains coherent throughout. Character sprites are original, the world is crafted with a strange but consistent internal logic, the interplay of light and shadow is well considered and there is a definite overall artistic vision very much apparent. While strong visual design is important in creating the identity of a horror title, sound design is arguably more important for creating the atmosphere and tone. Here, the developer has chosen to use freely available open source assets, but they are utilised with a deft touch throughout. Torrential rain and thunder claps lend some classic ghost story ambience. Floorboards creak seemingly at random as the player traverses the house and outbuildings often punctuating a deafening silence. Occasionally someone, or something will knock upon a door you have just come through, and this is particularly unsettling while wearing headphones! Often there will be the sounds of something being dragged, or scraping, or knocking, or sobbing, usually by some unseen agent. Finally there are the sounds of the abominations that lurk and stalk the player. Everything adds up to create a truly palpable sense of unease. Most players will likely finish the game in around an hour. There are three possible endings based on certain dialogue choices, but with a fairly generous save system, it shouldn't require three separate attempts. To add to the replay value, there are achievements to unlock, and a few of these are dependent on the decisions you make throughout. There are some minor graphical glitches and some of the dialogue is poorly translated, but most of these issues can be easily overlooked. I experienced at fairly severe audio bug where a sound effect was stuck on a particularly loud loop, but this was solved with a restart from a save point. My only real gripe is that there is no way to view your inventory outside of interacting with a number of specific hot-spots in the world, but this is likely a limitation with the engine. Again this is easily overlooked as the nature of the game doesn't really require this feature, but there were a couple of instances it would have been useful. This is absolutely worth an hour of your time, if you are a fan of strange and surreal horror. A truly fascinating use of the RPG Maker engine that is both surprising and impressive in scope and function. I look forward to trying more from the developer, and hope that they are still improving their skills for future releases.
Good and very cool.
So, I don't really know what to like about this game, but i definitely know what I don't like. The most dissapointing one is barriers. Wherever I go, I can't understand beforehand will I reach the obstacle, like invisible wall, or I can go freely. And this is not something I truly feel upset about, but there's some particular moment in this game - the very end, when I should go along my "Family" somewhere and I met the path, I went down the path and stucked, because my companions locked me in barriers around me, I couldn't somehow influe on situation due to Kaleb was not in my reach field, therefore I couldn't do something but close the game with some feeling like "сукин сын, я потратил последние 15 минут прохождения, чтобы в конце концов застрять в самом конце, и у меня нет никакого желания перепроходить с сохранения, ♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥♥". Therefore now I don't know, when I will play it next time whether I will play it at all. Secondly, it is autosaves without ability to do it myself. I understand that I will blame myself if I do saving right in the moment monster will appear and kill me, but how about to creat save points, so people won't have to walk through 15 minutes of gameplay they already passed? Thirdly, some ways to pass through particular moments are unobvious. Like when I should perform ritual to deal with Sheep demon. I had run all the map as I thought and couldn't get what to do next, until I understood there's a path between the trees which usually you cant walk through as it's edge of the map. So there's to-do list: 1) make barriers a bit wider to not get stuck in them like i described it in the very end of the game; 2) make save points: something like object to save or a little room; 3) think again about how to make the procces of walking through the game more obvious.
