This game is still insanely glitchy. I love the way it looks, characters, and what it looks like it's meant to be. However, every time I log in there is something that goes wrong and I have to stop playing. Today it was entering the barn, then I couldn't enter the game area but could all the areas that are not meant to be used as a player. Often trying to interact with the visitors glitches out the game as well. Today, it would keep up the text box after exiting the conversation while trying to play the game.
I can see the appeal with this cute game, the story is interesting and I like the setting, but I ended up getting stuck and could not progress because my path was blocked by an invisible wall. Once the bugs/glitches have been fixed, I'll jump in again, but it's just not playable at the moment. It's up to devs to play-test their game to ensure it's working nicely prior to release, not the paying customer. Or risk negative reviews.
Hoo, boy, that's terribly buggy. They fixed a good number with the update, but worse ones came in. Your barn empties randomly, harvesting breaks and does not fix upon reloading, just...ouch. I so wanted to finish, I was like three sessions from finishing the story before the update, but I just...can't. It's unplayable.
I bought the game in July 2024, but back then it had many bugs, and progressing was quite difficult. Now, as of patch 2.0—after a year and some updates—the game is perfectly playable and truly enjoyable! I highly recommend this game to cozy game lovers. I fell in love with it the second I saw it! I can only give this game a positive review!
This game is cuter than you, it's cuter than your mudda, it's cuter than your partner and it's cuter than your cat too. Maybe not the last one but everything else it is unequivocally cuter. I don't play these kinds of games ever, check my games and you'll find nothing close. But I can't resist it's charms. It's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cute, the animations, the creatures and the npcs. Like go to 16 seconds into the trailer. I need that red panda thing Unfortunately it is pretty buggy. Usually they are fixed with an exit to main menu but I've seen some people having gamebreaking bugs that halt progress. I haven't experienced anything like that so far (knock on wood). If I do I will edit my review. It's also kinda aimless because the quests stop telling you what to do and just leave you to your devices which I've seen some complaints about. I haven't had trouble with figuring out what to do yet but I have played game since I was 7 so it's pretty rare for me to get lost. There's probably many ways to find help like steam discussions or their discord but if you don't want to deal with that you might want to steer clear. Lastly a heads up the dev is still active on the discord, just make sure you join the link on steam. The twitter one doesn't seem to work. I've seen a lot of people think this game has been abandoned and honestly I was starting to think that as well because there has been nothing on the other socials but as of last month she said an update is on the way soon. I'd recommend you wait for that but unless I've been hoodwinked the game is not abandoned. Overall though I think it's worth getting. It isn't going to blow your mind with the gameplay or the story but if you want to see ♥♥♥♥ that's cuter than what God could cook up, get this. Edit: I would highly recommend joining the discord. She announced more info on the next update and unannounced the update will be soon TM. Now it is an undisclosed amount of time. But I'll personally be waiting for that before I continue. Just go to the discord and make both our lives easier.
I really wanted to like this game. Unfortunately it is ridiculously buggy. You can get stuck. NPCs can get in the way and not allow you to select the actions you need to do. Honestly I don't know how people got as far as they did with the gameplay- I'm seeing on forums and reviews that people definitely got further than I did, and everything I found indicated I needed to 'progress further in the story." I believe I found how to do it, but I was missing an item to be able to do so. There's no reliable wiki with details information to help you, either. I was originally going to stick it out and do as much in the game as I could in case something got revealed, except for the fact that a shop upgrade undid itself. Twice. Cute idea, bad execution.
Cute game, but super buggy. The art style of the game is what caught my attention and I have loved the mystery of the story so far, but I keep getting frustrated with the bugs and quitting out of the game. [olist] [*] I do NOT have a controller plugged into my PC, and it kept glitching and saying I was switching between keyboard and mouse and the controller especially during combat sequences. [*] Some of the pop ups about the controller and a few others would get "stuck" on my screen until reloading the game. [*] I killed the Thistle Hydra and didn't get the achievement. I even tried reloading cause I hadn't saved and killed it a second time but nada. [*] Items will drop from harvestable nodes and I can't pick them up no matter how I move or spam the "E" key. [*] I paid to fix every house in the first village before moving on to the next area but the game is saying I need to buy them again. [*] My critters keep getting "stuck" in the barn or I've had critters I put in the barn disappear. Super frustrating because you can only have 4 active at a time, which includes when you're harvesting your critter crops (which the game starts with 18 spots for planting critters and you need to run back and forth to sell them all if you're using crops to help make money or trying to get a mystic tier critter). [*] Some of the daily mini events glitch out, especially the corruption on the farm. Spamming "E" will do nothing sometimes and you'll have to wait til it's done then do it over again. [*] If you're trying to harvest or fish and an NPC happens to get to close when you click you fail because they start talking to you. It also happens sometimes when the daily quest stuff overlaps with a harvestable. Basically if two things are overlapping in the same spot, both things will try to open at the same time. [*] At moments in the story line you don't have "quests" to guide you. It took me forever to figure out what I was supposed to do to get to the next area without any hints -- but I did eventually figure it out. [*] The thing that finally made me give up on this game for now was second "zone" with ice. I kept glitching through the walls and clicking on NPCs was frustrating because it was like they were also stuck in the geometry or something. Same with the harvestable items. They would drop the items outside the boundaries of where I could get to. [/olist] If this game gets updates and some of these bugs get fixed I would give it another go because I LOVE the art and all the different critters and what I got of the story in 7.4 hours of game play was interesting, but I can't recommend it in it's current state. The art style looked promising at best, but that's all the real good to me. Tried the game, no clear instructions or game storyline, you're pretty much just left to your own devices once you begin the game, which is a bad thing if the game wanted to aim for players to feel engaged enough to go through further into the game. This review is short because I stopped playing through after the first couple of quests. Critter Crops has a great art style, I love the drawn artwork look, but that's all I love. I would love to comment more about its content but that's no possible since I didn't play through it much. I would hope to see it again (possibly pick it up again) if a content creator plays through it with a more positive note about its gameplay.
The game is really cute, but it doesn't feel finished. It has a lot of great ideas, but none of them were fully realized. Each one ends up just okay. Some of the dialogue drags on without adding much, and the world feels buggy and incomplete. The characters are adorable, though. Overall, it's an okay game. Pick it up in a bundle or on sale if you're curious....
