I loved the idea of this game and was so excited to purchase and play on launch day! Since then I have had to completely restart the game from scratch 3 times. The game is just NOT PLAYABLE IN ITS CURRENT FORM. There have been no updates since the second week of the game being out and it really just feels like the devs have abandoned this game. It was a cute concept but in the end the major bugs/ game crashes has left it unplayable. I would not suggest purchasing until the whole game is overhauled....
Good idea, poor execution. I loved the idea of a cozy, witchy farming game where you can grow spooky pets. However, the game lacks substance and polishing. It's incredibly repetitive and boring especially for a farming game. Every day it's the same few quests and at one point you gather so many resources that you max our your storage, which the game does not clearly inform you of. I only found out because I went onto the discord to see if anyone else was getting the weird error. There's very little guidance on what to do, where to click, etc and it felt like I was stumbling across things I wasn't supposed to. I would get stuck at several parts of the main quest because of vague instructions. It's also buggy where if I have a controller plugged in, but switched to my keyboard, the cursor would scroll everywhere or get stuck on my screen. All of this turned me off from playing the rest of the game and I kept hoping there would be more updates. The worst part is that the game developer has completely gone silent. I was expecting a lot more patches and improvements to address the bugs and critiques. The last time she actually posted about the game update was 8/9/24 in discord, but no other social media presence. I've been trying to contact her about other Critter Crop related order issues, but she's been unresponsive. I think it's safe to say that this game has been abandoned.
SUPER BUGGY & DEV IS RADIO SILENT , GAME HAS BEEN ABANDONED Edit to add: the new 2.0 update sucks, hate the totally changed new combat battle system, still extremely buggy, unplayable. Waste of $17
There is a huge BUT with me not recommending this game. I bought this during the steam sale and wouldn't purchase this game in its current state at full price. I really love the art style and have enjoyed playing the game for the most part. However like many other reviews, the game is very buggy, and it seems like devs have abandoned this game. Its was fun for the first couple of hours, until I started noticing I was losing progress (even after saving), and the shops were bugged. I would purchase a certain amount of seeds and would not receive all of the seeds I purchased, but currency was taken for the amount of seeds I wanted to purchased. I upgraded all buildings and shops (and SAVED) but the upgrades kept reverting back/I would have to re-upgrade (multiple times!!). There were also many instances I needed to exit/reopen the game as the prompt to collect mats wouldn't come up. It started to get super frustrating so I gave up. With that, I do see potential in this game and hope devs come back with a patch soon.!!!!
seems like abandonware. Very sad.
I wanted to like this one and I guess I still do. I fully enjoyed the art and the few hours I played if it was that long. But it has too many bugs. So many things that don't register when you select or try to select them. Suddenly no buttons work and you have to fully exit. Please fix.. It's so cute and I'm going to patiently wait for an update since I hoard games. But no I can't recommend till it's fixed 😭😭😭
So I backed this game on kickstarter. I anxiously awaited it's release and I'm sad to say I'm a little disappointed. I played it on release day and there were lots of issues that the dev quickly handled, so that's some of the good. The graphics of the game are absolutely adorable which is why I initially decided to back it. I'm a spoopy ghoul at heart, so the Halloween type theme also drew me in. Cozy gamer, and it was giving the vibes so it checks a lot of boxes for me. I did give the game another try about a week after release to see if it was any better and it was *slightly*, but I have not had any desire to pick it back up since. It feels very unfinished and there's not a lot of guidance in the game. I was stuck in the main town area for 3 hours before realizing I wasn't progressing because I needed to buy a certain spell (which I only found out by being in the Discord and someone telling me). There wasn't like a quest or anything marked to kind of lead me in a direction. I spent a lot of the time feeling really lost and the gameplay had become terribly redundant at that point. I unlocked some super shiny rare critters very early on and didn't really see the purpose of growing more once I had them except to sell for a little bit of money. I'm told there's more areas than the first little town but I never actually made it to them. So maybe it gets better? The wiggly text is VERY hard on the eyes. I'm hoping they add a way to turn that off. I don't think it would be as bad if all the words moved together but having each individual letter of every word moving in different directions at once really made it hard for me to read. The items in the shops and menu don't actually say what they're for, so I was buying things all willy nilly and hoping I discovered it's purpose later. Same with potion making. It would tell you the name of the potion and what ingredients it needed but not actually what it was used for. I also wasn't a fan of them not telling you how many of an item you actually had when you went to sell them, you could only pick how many you wanted to sell, but I wasn't sure how many I wanted to sell because I didn't know how many I had. The only way to check was to back out of the mimic chest menu and look in my backpack, and then re-open the mimic chest to sell them, *repeat*. I also wasn't really sure WHY no one lived there, yet the town was always bustling with visitors. Again, maybe you learn that later on. Why is it so abandoned and also so busy at the same time? If I find out the game gets some major updates to it, I may try it out again, but as of right now, it's a no from me.
There are far too many issues thus far for me to enjoy this game. I was initially having difficulty progressing the story line early game as there was nothing left to unlock after I fixed the first shop and there were no quests left. There was no direction whatsoever. Well I am still having that issue, but then I also began encountering *many* bugs. I was unable to weed the plots, so I saved and quit. I came back in, but then I couldn't enter the inn. So I saved and quit. After going through this cycle several times of finding a new bug and saving and quitting, I just couldn't do it anymore. There are also some quality of life things this game is sorely missing. Not being able to view the number of items in your inventory when selling to the mimic, only being able to sell 4 crops at a time and having to walk back and forth from the farm to the shop every 4 crops (though admittedly I am unsure if this is something that can improve as you progress through the story, as I have mentioned above that I am unable to progress past opening the magic shop), to name a couple. When picking up dropped items, you must be in the exact right spot, otherwise you could interact with something you weren't intending to or not be able to pick up the item altogether. Given how quickly these dropped items despawn, I find myself unable to collect them more often than not. All in all, the art style is cute, the soundtrack is enjoyable, and I may give this another go in the future when perhaps some of these problems have been addressed.
I really wanted to like this game, Not only is there no direction for quests, crafting, etc. But my upgrades would disappear for the shops and the houses I would repair. So I lost all the time, resources, and money used and not have the upgrade anymore. Sorry, but I just cannot recommend this game, I really tried and gave it 5 hours of my time and even ignored the other reviews.
cute, but lots of bugs. Not really sure why these obvious bugs are overlooked by devs. Such as - Unable to interact with plants/weeds occasionally - Weeding requiring an insanely fast keytap QTE that is clearly impossible. - Items vanishing, or being visible only for a second, or not being visible till you're far away and then popping in. Not gamebreaking but definitely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying when it's every five seconds.
