A really lovely game. The visuals are super and I really like the gameplay. It's a roguelike. You'll die a lot. I may never beat it, but I like the challenge and don't find it *that* unfair. 4 dollars well spent! And you get to beat the crap out of somebody with an owl on a stick.
While I'm giving this a thumbs-up, it's important to set some expectations. This is a $4 game, intended to be played from star-to-finish in under 4 hours. It's a well-made simple roguelike, and it has a unique visual style. It's not a particularly engaging or deep game, but it also never pretends to be one. If you want a short, simple RPG for a change of pace from your normal gaming, Crayon Chronicles could be perfect. That said, I also lost interest in this game pretty quickly, and I've never had the urge to revisit it. Over just a few hours, I felt like I had seen everything the game had to offer.
It's a laidback, light-hearted roguelite. Except it's permadeath. Yes, there is that.
Fun and cute Roguelike that is still pretty challenging.
In the beginning it was a bit frustrating because I died a lot, but then I got the hang and it was fun I like the style and graphics of this game and also that it's so colorful. The weapons and other tools are really fun! Have you ever hit someone with a ladder or an owl on a stick?
Strong RNG and a clunky interface detract from this otherwise aesthetically nostalgic and child friendly introduction to roguelikes.
I got this on sale for something like $1 and it was worth the price. The criticisms others have leveled at it are valid, but don't take into account the type of game this is. This is a game that you play when you're on an mmo and waiting for friends to arrive. It passes time. In this function it excels. It has charm, and is a good time waster.
