Tags: Topdown - Gridrogue Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: No minimap, reliance of FOV for finding progression. FOV blocked by scenery(e.g. cobwebs). Kid oriented but interface clunky and too tactical for target audience. The paper dungeon aesthetic one can get used to, the sound design is decent but kind of a bit juvenile. Altogether the game behaves correctly, in a strict grid pattern with simple damage being traded back and forth. Your ability to suit up, mitigate damage and bottleneck foes are there but sort of limited. Often I found all I could do was fight in doorways, and ignore the same unitneresting loot that kept dropping. Intro, cutscenes, character creation screen, the school/bookworms/enchanted books/spiders+pest oriented beastiary was not too engage. The engine looked pixelated with no real resolutions options, with a grainyness to the visuals. Swapping equipment and taking up power up, consumables, bottles, and the like could get cumbersome, with a collection of hotkeys, a finnicky right click on objects that does not work if you stand on that tile and the unclear usefulness of many objects. Seems the main way to stay alive is to kite, cheese the AI and rely on the auto-heal when opening doors to hostile rooms. Apaprently you get a random +health whenever you do that. It was unfortunate that you were locked into a corner of the screen for the entire play area, while those massive UI toolbars in eye grating white backgrounds frame the entire screen. Conclusion: The constant aggressive clicking, the necessity to avoid getting zerged, and the clunky way to handle items and abilities will all stand in the way of whatever audience is young enough to be interested by this game's tone, language and art direction. Making it very easy to recommend avoiding. The paper dungeon aesthetic also exists elsewhere (e.g. Book of Demons)

I got this on sale for something like $1 and it was worth the price. The criticisms others have leveled at it are valid, but don't take into account the type of game this is. This is a game that you play when you're on an mmo and waiting for friends to arrive. It passes time. In this function it excels. It has charm, and is a good time waster.
Strong RNG and a clunky interface detract from this otherwise aesthetically nostalgic and child friendly introduction to roguelikes.
In the beginning it was a bit frustrating because I died a lot, but then I got the hang and it was fun I like the style and graphics of this game and also that it's so colorful. The weapons and other tools are really fun! Have you ever hit someone with a ladder or an owl on a stick?
Fun and cute Roguelike that is still pretty challenging.
Nice
Addictive and fun to play. Recommended!
