Hey, do you like playing a game which has a special award for passing a level flawlessly? Do you like messing up at the start and having no restart button to let you quickly retry the level, thus forcing you to play through the entire thing knowing that you screwed up and will have to restart as soon as you get to the end? Do I have the game for you! In Crashbots you can experience the joy of having NO PAUSE MENU, with literally no way of retrying a level early. Hell, you can't even quit the game until you finish, unless you want to alt+f4. Hey devs, for the next update I recommend removing the save functionality. Too mainstream.

Well, you will need to have top notch reflexes if you want to take control of the latest line of fighting robots. So, are you ready to enter the world of Crashbots? (Don’t blame the messenger if your reactions are not up to scratch.) Crashbots is a runner/arcade shooter game, developed and published by Neonchimp Games, where you control one of five robots through fun and challenging parkours. The game offers two modes of play: story and endless. As you launch the story mode, you’ll go through a small tutorial at first, and then be introduced to the first of five worlds available in the game. Each of the worlds has 25 levels to beat, which includes a boss level. However, you’ll have to collect stars throughout each stage to unlock all the world. Each time you collect 50 stars, you’ll unlock a new world. Most of the stages are small, but full of obstacles to avoid and enemies to eliminate! Your robots have a few abilities within their design. All have weapons, a jetpack, armour and energy. All these components can be upgraded in the robot workshop as long as you have collected enough coins to do so. The goal in each of the stages is to get your robot to the finish line and make sure you have collected all the stars, so you can unlock new worlds quickly. Before the level start, the camera will show you the end of the level and then move rather quickly through the parkour, backwards, to show you what types of obstacles and enemies your robot will be facing. As soon as the camera hits the start point, your robot will then move and start the stage. Your robot will consume energy when it moves, uses its jetpack or slides down. If all the energy has been consumed before your robot reaches the end, it’s game over and you’ll have to restart the stage. Each time your robot touches an obstacle or gets hit by an enemy projectile, your energy gauge will go down very quickly. Therefore, you must look for where the batteries and the energy symbol are positioned on the parkour to regenerate your energy gauge. Make sure to shoot all crates, chests and vases, depending on which world you are playing in, as they sometimes contain batteries. The good news is that shooting doesn’t draw down your energy. In fact, each time you hit a target it will go towards recharging your heavy weapon. The other ability that doesn’t affect your energy is the speed ability. You can use it at your leisure, but it will take time to recharge. As you progress through each of the worlds, the levels will become harder and harder with multiple types of obstacles and enemies. Also, all levels have an additional three challenges to complete and if you manage to do so, you’ll be given extra coins for your trouble. Don’t forget to collect as many coins as possible in each of the stages - you’ll need plenty of coins to upgrade your robots! The boss fight is really fun! Not only they will spit out obstacles left, right and centre, but they’ll also send enemies at you. On your end, you have to hit the target on the boss! The graphics and the soundtrack are good. You can play with a gamepad or with the keyboard. I did have a few hiccups with the gamepad while shooting. I personally like the balance of the game; it’s not to fast or slow and has plenty of variety to keep you entertained for a while. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Nice graphics + 5 worlds with 125 levels to beat + Fun and challenging + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No trading cards as yet - Can be frustrating at times Crashbots is a fun, challenging and well-balanced game with stacks of levels to beat! 7/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. I got this for free using daily login coins from chrono gg and I still wouldn't recommend anyone even get it for nothing. This is a solid game in addiction and desire for perfection, but despite the levels being 20 seconds long or so, you will mess up instantly time and again and there is no reset. You must let yourself die or reach the end, each of which take longer than actually having messed up. Any dialogue that pops up also goes again and again. The controls are the worst I have ever seen for a game like this. I have never in my memory gotten angry at video games but I can say that I got pissed off after only 15 minutes because of how inaccurate the controls are. You will die time and again for not going into the bottom lane or only partially enter it (there are three lanes, and you stay in the same spot unless you go left or right, and it's very possible to go halfway between, getting hit by obsticles of either). Additionally, the jump and duck seem to be impossible to do the same time as left or right; you have to queue them one at a time. And the jump is finicky as all hell, too. I have literally never reviewed a game before in my life and this game was so bad, so clunky, so infuriating, that I had to leave this, even though I got it for free! I swear, even Glover had better controls than this...
This is a definite no. The camera angle is so completely wrong that it's really hard to know when to time jumps properly and the whole vibe screams cheap mobile game. Avoid at all costs and pick up one of the Bit. Trip Runner games instead. This game is complete overpriced tripe. This is a bad runner game. Why would you put the camera at an angle, especially considering this game already does not use proper defined lanes, and allows you to navigate precisely. You can't tell when your character is flying over a thing or not, or whether they're on the right plane to avoid hazards. While I suspect the intention was to make a "deep, challenging" runner game with lots of control, the bad camera, awkward controls, and difficulty aligning your character makes this seem like a game the developers made for themselves, rather than for people to enjoy. Don't get it.
I didn't like this game. The game has no way to quit a level (or exit the game without alt-F4), only has keyboard or gamepad controls (no mouse), and the robots are not very responsive to your commands either. You tell the bot to go right, nothing happens, or it happens intermittently. Just playing the tutorial was painful since I couldn't go back to the menu when I got stuck. I had to kill the program with Alt-F4. I got so angry after just a few minutes that I stopped playing and I'm a fairly patient gamer. I got the game for free from Chrono.gg.
Game is kind of fun in short bursts. It's got the addictive quality of runner gameplay, but it's not very snappy and getting hit feels so janky. The camera angle, as others have pointed out, is to its detriment as well, because it's difficult to parse where your character is in relation to the obstacles ahead. I don't know why people are complaining that there's no restart button though. There is. You push escape and it brings up the pause menu, and there's a restart button right there. I have no clue how so many people, that must have played the game for all of like 30 minutes, missed it. All in all, 5/10. I received it for free on Chrono.gg. I wouldn't recommend paying money for it, though. It's not worth 10 dollars. If it was ALWAYS free, I would recommend it.
