GRADE: F+. It works and you can play it, but im not sure why you'd want to. The Co-Op feature is an interesting idea but like everything else here its just not done very well. Crash the Core crashes and burns before it even takes flight. This is the worse kind of Slay the Spire clone. Its an idea that was not only bland and unnecessary but one that also feels half way done and poorly executed. Like the developers got just as bored with making it as i did playing it and they also couldn't force themselves to give it much time. Even technically, Crash the Core is a mess – Janky and uninspired, functional but forgettable. It's the bland oatmeal of deckbuilders, offering nothing but a lukewarm mush of mechanics that fail to ignite even the faintest spark of interest or excitement. Crash the Core. It's a monument to missed potential and wasted opportunity. Save yourself the disappointment and pick up a deckbuilder that's actually worth your time and money. MONSTER TRAIN is really something special in the genre and it does a pretty good version of multiplayer deckbuilding.
It's actually not that bad. It doesn't have the depth of StS (of course, very few games do), but it's still okay and has some orginal mechanics that work rather well. The first thing that will throw you off is that all the assets are coming from royalty free libraries and it's painfully obvious. Most of the graphics clash with each other and with the story/setting. The UI is very rough but functional (except that you can't save+quit). There are some mechanics that aren't explained, like apparently the fact that your first death will be spared and you'll instead be stuck with 1 HP. I didn't find a way to remove cards from the deck, which makes this a very different game from StS. If you are a big fan of Slay the Spire, this game is not for you, On the other hand, if you didn't get the hang of StS (yet) and are looking for something more accessible to the profane, then maybe CtC is what you're looking for... This is a pretty good game. Some of the comments from the negative reviews here don't make sense. Maybe they were from an earlier version? The game could definitely be improved with a good manual and some updates,. That said, once you do figure things out it's an enjoyable CCG. There's enough depth to craft decks to try different strategies which is what you want from a game like this. The challenge level is just about right; you'll lose a few times before winning your first run. There are currently some bugs and some seriously unfair matches but I think the dev is working on these. There are some other downsides, particularly the UI is too simple - it's clean and uncluttered which is good but could do with some more information. For example, some character types build up energy points (which you spend to play cards) over several turns; there's no way to know how to do this, you just figure it out by accident. Enemy card artwork is often repeated and could do with more variety. Overall it lacks the polish of certain other games (Slay etc) and is a bit grindy with progression but it's a rough diamond, especially for the price.
Not a bad game for the price, and for it being a first time game. Some things are still a bit confusing to me, and all the enemies seem to just do the same attacks; so variety drops off fairly quick. But like I said it's cheap, and a first time game. If you like card battle games, it's worth a go.
