Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is such an adorable gem for sure! ✨ Yes, it is a very short game. I finished it in under 2 hours. But it also only costs 5 euro, so honestly it is very fair. Also, I really had such a cozy and fun time playing it. The game kinda has that classic point-and-click-combine items feeling, but at the same time you also run around yourself, collect items, and go talk with all the silly little NPCs, and you also help them out! A lovely puzzle adventure game for sure. I also just love how Flibbius walks… and especially how he RUNS. That little run is absolutely the best lmao. This is also one of those games that has been sitting in my library for a while. And when I was halfway through I got the thought: “Why did i not play this earlier??” 😭 Overall it is a super charming little game. Very cozy, very cute, a little silly, and I totally recommend it. 🌼
Adorable little puzzley game, reminiscent of A Short Hike! I must agree with my dear friend who put this game on my radar: Flibbius’ run is a *chef’s kiss* design choice. :D The island is full of cheeky NPCs who made me snicker over and over. The puzzles mostly consist of figuring out how locate a variety of items in order to craft clever solutions to problems dotted around the island. These solutions can take some trial-and-error tinkering, but there are generous hints provided within the quest log, should you wish to speed things up! In the two hours or so of gameplay, achievements are easily obtained, *but see the very bottom of my review if you want a heads-up for the singular achievement that I missed* (but could pop on a second playthrough). I played on a Lenovo Legion Go (SteamOS; controls nearly identically to my Steam Deck) and it’s flawless. I think the game should earn a green verified checkmark! A lovely time, and well worth the small price for such a handcrafted experience full of smiles. :) ACHIEVEMENTS TIP ***************** The final achievement requires that you complete a playthrough *without using any hints.*
❤️ I had a wonderful time playing this game and truly enjoyed the experience. I've decided to try this game out after reading a lovely review from a lovely friend 💕, and I’m so glad I did—it was absolutely the best decision! The game is cozy and adorable, with a charming atmosphere that makes it very relaxing to play. Progressing through the game involves interacting with objects, picking items, and crafting or combining them. The mechanics are simple but engaging, which makes the gameplay feels natural and satisfying. I rarely found myself getting stuck. Most of the puzzles are quite intuitive, we do not have to rely on hints. The game does a great job of guiding you through its logic without becoming frustrating! Overall, I had a delightful time with this cozy little game. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did—it’s absolutely worth playing! 💯💯💯
The team put all their effort into the opening cut scene, which is also the trailer. Once the gameplay starts, it's quite disappointing. There's no flair or identity. All the text boxes are just rectangles with a solid color. The music doesn't change between areas. There are no environmental sound effects, so the whole world is just barren. The graphics are a far cry from what the trailer promised. This feels like a student project that probably got an A, but it's not a full game ready for release. I'm genuinely glad to see other reviews saying they love and appreciate its sense of humor and the like. But there are such better other games out there.
Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine is a charming puzzle game with a playful and slightly silly vibe. The world feels like a little storybook, and the characters have a lot of personality The puzzles are simple but enjoyable, making it a relaxing experience rather than a challenging one. It’s a great game to unwind with and just enjoy the atmosphere It’s on the shorter side, but it fits the cozy style really well
first of all, thank you for the gift, sis! (/≧▽≦)/ if you like short adventure games like Frog Detective series, Time on Frog Island, A Short Hike and Lil Gator Game then this is the game for you to wind down and relax for at most 2 hours of your day o(* ̄︶ ̄*)o also, a huge shoutout to this text-based walkthrough guide which is easy to follow to get that 100% achievement completion: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3684667229 oh and it works well on steam deck though you need to double press on the A button when selecting an item for you to craft/interact with (:
Charming but short little adventure game, sort of similar vibes to the Frog Detective series. The game is your basic puzzle adventure but there are some crafting elements to the puzzle solutions to spice things up to similar games, and it seams to be several solutions to some of the puzzles. That's always good. I did get stuck for a while before I actually read the text on some of the crafting materials you pick up and realized what the game wanted me to do when I couldn't find a rope i knew i needed. It's not super obvious to say the least... It's nothing groundbreaking but at a couple of € it's a solid game for an hour or two (left the game running while making something to eat, so the playtime for 100% is not 3 hours.
Simply a must have if you're in to cute and cozy feel-good games along the lines of A Short Hike or Smushi Come Home and the many other similar games that we have been graced with these past few years. Fortunately a growing genre and this game fits right in with the rest. I found myself smiling the whole way through. Flibbius McDoogle (awesome name) takes you on a short adventure around a small island, where you get to meet various animal npcs and help them out, which on one hand makes you feel good but it also helps you progress on your own objective. It IS a short game, so keep that in mind. I bought it on sale, but I enjoyed it so much that I wouldn't have minded paying full price. Well a longer sequel is in the making, so I'll get the chance then. :D The gameplay consists of exploring the small island and completing simple crafting related puzzles like figuring out which of the items you have found around the island might combine in to the thing(s) you need to complete an objective. You have a journal that keeps track of your story so far and it includes Secret notes that function as hints if you're stuck. Heads up for achievement hunters: DO NOT click the Secret notes if you want to complete the game in one playthrough. There's an achievement for completing the game without hints AKA reading Secret notes.
So I want to start out saying that Flibbius is an adorable game and I do recommend it. At $5 I think it's worth the time for the delightful writing. I do have my issues with it though which I will list below. Let's start with the good... 1) The price tag. You can complete the game in about 1.5-2.5 hours. I beat it in 1.8 with a couple achievements left to get. But the short play time isn't bad when you take into account that it's only $5. I got a key for free to review, but had I paid the $5 I wouldn't be upset about it. 2) The opening cutscene is absolutely amazing! It's very stylized, adorable, funny. I don't know if it's actually stop motion, but it looks like it is and I love me some good stop motion. 3) The dialogue is amazing. It's so funny and it was a joy to read. Honestly it's my favorite part of the game. Whoever was in charge of this, kudos. Very well done, very entertaining. Many parts of it gave me quite the chuckle and put a smile on my face. 4) The sound design is lovely and so are the visuals. Though I was disappointed to find that the whole game didn't look like the opening cutscene and that we never see that style again. But the visuals are still very cute, very simple. The characters are all super cute and well designed. Well done. 5) For the most part (and I have a section in the negatives for this) the puzzles are very straight forward. Classic point and click puzzle mechanics of combine things to make another thing to move forward. Generally speaking everything was fairly easy to figure out once you had all the components and some of them were rather clever. Like
using a hammer on a sunflower to get the oil you need for one of the puzzles
So the game isn't just a cake walk. Some are super easy and some took a bit of thought and I just loved it. 6) The story isn't anything emotional or anything, but it's a straight forward little adventure of a turtle who wants to fly. Which is a cute concept and I enjoyed Flibbius's little journey. All in all the game is quick, simple, and adorable to look at. A nice quick playthrough for an adult who just wants a short game to play, and a great point and click puzzle game for kids. Now onto the few negatives I had.... 1) Again I really loved the style of the opening scene and I wish we saw it more. For instance... the ending of the game was rather anti-climactic. I had kinda assumed that we would be greeted by that delightful animation again at the end of the game. Rather the game just kinda... ends. Once you do what you need to with the flying machine. 2) The hammer.... most of the puzzles starting out require a hammer. However you don't find this hammer, you make it. Normally I would spoiler something like this but I'm not going to here. You need to combine a rock and a stick to get the hammer. The game *DOES* contain hints, but nothing in the game really hints at needing to make a hammer. In fact there's a cave you can go down into that has a letter talking about flint. So I assumed I need to solve the puzzle in the cave to get the flint. No.. you need the hammer. I won't spoil the actual puzzle to get the flint. Don't worry. But I did find it frustrating when a large chunk of the playthrough was trying to figure out how on earth to get flint when I couldn't find the clue for the cave puzzle anywhere. And HAD I figured it out before I did the hammer... I would have been very confused when the cave did not produce flint. The only way you are going to get the hammer it feels like is to either just... make it on accident? Or the way I did which was to look up a walk through trying to find the answer to the cave... only to discover that there was a hammer I needed to make. It would be nice if somewhere in the hint book it said something about needing a tool to get the flint, rather than just saying you need flint for something. 3) I said all the puzzles were pretty straight forward... but there is a SINGLE puzzle that makes zero sense to me. And that's for one of the things you need cloth for
to get the cloth you need to combine nails with yarn
and that... that doesn't make much sense to me. I did this one on accident just trying random stuff. That solution just doesn't make much sense. I'm not sure how you get cloth from that. 4) My final complaint is the controls. It's nothing huge. The game is playable and if you are playing with controller I'm sure you'll be fine. But I played with keyboard and mouse, and I wish I could have changed the interacting button from left click to F. And I wish that the camera followed my mouse rather than me having to right click and drag to move the camera. Ultimately none of my issues with the game make it unplayable or make it not worth playing. The only one I can see being a true problem for some people. Is the hammer thing. Again I wish there was a clue given somewhere that you need to make a hammer, because if you don't you won't be able to figure out most of the puzzles. But if you're the kind of person that just tries random stuff, it wouldn't be an issue for you. End of the day it's worth your time and $5. Especially if you have a kid! Again. A fun little game for an adult, but I think it's a game my kid would enjoy playing too. Could be a great early game for a kiddo just getting into gaming. So I say spend the $5 for a fun little romp. I also hope that maybe we get more of Flibbius at some point and get to join him on his little flying adventures.
