Wow! A game made of Unity that is not bad? That is quite an accomplishment. The game is fun, really fun. But it has a major downfall: It's full of Youtube bullsh!t And by that I mean it was made to put youtubers as playable characters to sell the game to their fans, instead of making original and cool characters. What a waste of potential. I'm sick of it. But the game is good overall, it has a lot of action, enemies pop up all the time, and if you have a friend to play with it gets even better. Some good power-ups are included, and they really help to reach the end of the game. I'm just gonna point TWO things that really destroy the gameplay: Number 1: “The gameplay is super addictive...and I love the kissing mechanic!” Alexander Pieper. Co-Founder Studio Fizbin This is under Review section on the description of the game. He says he loves the kissing mechanic. I can't tell how many times me and my wife DIED because we are trying to escape the enemies and we accidentally touched each other and kissed automatically, because this is how you do it, it's AUTOMATIC. They really should have made a button for it, as the arena is very small, and sooner or later you gonna run through your partner. Number 2: You SHOULD NOT be able to damage the carrot at the center of the arena (the one you have to protect, of course), because it is almost impossible to kill hordes without firing against it in a desperate way. And every hit takes 2% of Carrot life, and that's alot, as it can die very quickly too. Your bullets should go through that, for sure would make the game much more fun to play. I want to give it a "middle rating", but if you can get around the Youtube ♥♥♥♥ that comes with the game, it's very fun.

This key was obtained from the publisher for the purposes of review. Target Audience: Top-Down Shooter fans who want something different, but are willing to deal with repetition. Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70ro79ago5E Summary: This is a sale target in my mind. It gets a recommend because it's worth picking up at some point, as the base gameplay has enough of an alteration in the top-down shooter genre to be worth something. The fact that your core can be attacked by yourself and the fact that enemies take you down in one hit, that's a nice change of pace for the genre, and does make it stand out a bit. The animation and art is great, even with characters like PewdiePie making an apperance. But where the game majorly suffers is variety: it's the same thing very, very quickly, and doesn't have the lasting power to keep your entertained over a long haul. The unlocks do small things to help, but enemy and arena variety would have gone a long way to help the game out: and it fails at it. And it doesn't help that the online play is ancient: this is 2016 and you're asking for IP host/join in game, with Steam as your base platform? Not a good move. In the end, I'd wait for a sale regardless, as while I had fun, I can't say that you're going to get your moneys worth at this current price, but eventually, you will. Lists: Positives:

Base gameplay is good. Solid controls, and some good powerups that can cause chaos.
Dying to one hit while the core doesn't means you can't just throw yourself in front of enemies; you've got to consider your own life, and the risks you take.
Like the fact that you can hit the carrot core in question. Makes skill shots around it mean something.
Good gameplay options in the options menu. If you hate yourself, turn on the weak carrot mode.
Can cause good chaos in the coop battle, reviving your friends while running for your life.
A good soundtrack......
Negatives:

Variety lacks. The game falls into a pattern that causes a bit of a problem over the long term: the main gameplay is the same variation of enemies and items over and over again, with not a lot to spice it up. After an hour of gameplay, you've seen the base content here.
It's 2016. If your game is host/joining via IP when Steam is the framework.....you're probably doing something wrong.
At the bloody difficulty, that's where the game starts seeing some problems in frame rate when you've got a lot on screen.
The Soundtrack really isn't used that well. You'll be hearing the same base music over and over again unless you go and change it yourself.
Multiplayer games are very very basic.
Visual effects don't really help for me. It's artificial in terms of value added.
If you want more reviews/information regarding games I've reviewed, visit my curator. Ehhhhh I'm gonna have to pass on upvoting Carrots and Blood. By all means there is a cute little game here, and the asking price is hardly an issue - but there's just too much great competition in the arena twinstick genre. I also feel this one is a bit grindy to hide it's fairly small content. And again, for the price, the amount of content is reasonable. Essentially, this is an arena twinstick best played with local co-op. You fight waves of enemies who are trying to get to the center of the arena where there is a giant carrot you need to protect. The characters are cute in a cartoony kind of way but the whole actual 'game' part feels pretty ho-hum. There are some nice unlockable buffs and characters, but again, the grind is very real here. Pros: +The asking price reflects the content, and I have no complaints in that department +Local co-op was fun enough, but I'd just as soon play many other higher-quality local co-op twinsticks (see 10Tons catalog just to start) Cons: -Pretty mediocre affair; gaming time and money is precious and limited so why play second rate titles? -Very grindy, and I couldn't really play it in anything other than super short bursts -Nothing too fresh added (at all) to the twinstick arena shooter/zombie rush genre This is one of those down-votes where it's not about the small asking price, and it's not even that the game is terrible per-se, it's about gaming time being precious and limited - go play one of the many many other great local co-op twinsticks out there.
If you enjoy playing a game that is meant to be mutliplayer BY YOURSELF on the ONLY available stage for one player... then this is for you. I actually think this game might be fun with friends. The problem is that it uses the archaeic match making system of manually putting in an IP address and messing around with ports. If you're not savvy with networking, even trying to follow instructions online... it is complicated and messy. Perhaps I'm just an idiot, but I found this to be unneccessairly complicated and it made trying to play with friends pretty much virtually impossible. I had to ask a friend to help me set up a port forwarding system JUST for this game. Even then, I never managed to get it to work. I can connect to other people, but I just cannot seem to set up a connection for myself for others to connect to me. Because the devs didn't give any sort of information about what kind of additional port information the game might need, there could be some unknown element floating around that's preventing me from succeeding and I just don't know it. This is another classic example of a game pushed through greenlight and then forgotten about and abandoned. There is a lot that you can do on your own... but everything in this game is a grind fest. Defeating enemies, collecting brains (currency), buying things, etc. It's tedious. You will also die pretty quickly on your own. With only one stage that you can play on your own, you're going to get very bored of playing the same stage over and over and over again. Many achievements and content (like stages) are only available in multiplayer. What ever happened to inviting your friend to your game? Lobbies? Match making? Why were these not options for multiplayer? This game isn't even that old! I want to like this game. The grinding is kind of fun in small increments. But a multiplayer game that you can't even get to work in multiplayer without a conveluted set up? Really defeats the purpose of your game's overall appeal, doesn't it? It also alienates people who don't have a lot of networking experience who just want to sit down and have fun playing a game with their friends. Other complaints that I have is that this is Youtuber video bait - putting Pewdiepie in the game and having him "endorse" it to sell copies. The game also went to my second monitor by default (instead of my main monitor) and I had to look up a guide to figure out how to move that over as well. It has bright colors, neat graphics, great music and really good controller support. If multiplayer was more accessible, it'd be a fun thing to mess around with for a bit with friends. But being so crippled by the horrendous multiplayer is a no-no for me.
Simple gameplay but with enough bonus content to keep you entertained and coming back for more. Controls are very responsive which is a must for any good game. Highly recommend a controller on this one. Lots of unlockables and a few secrets hidden around.
Really, really, fantastic. Simple to start with a difficulty that ramps up with a lovely snowball momentum. Good luck with 250+ post kill gameplay! We start off in a really cutesy world remniscient of my 1990's cartoon theme childhood full of Bug's Bunnies and Animaniacs. The music is enticing, upbeat, and keeps you in action while you're playing the game. I was unable to watch the introductory cinematic because I skipped accidently by pressing the spacebar, which I'm personally fine with. Story always pales in comparison to the meat of the game: the gameplay! Top down, arena based combat, protect the asset (Carrot) in the center of the arena. ..Yes, you can destroy it yourself, should you so choose... Twin-Stick shooting action with some powerups along the way. Triple Shot, Super Speed/Super Attack Speed, Screen-Wide AoE Wipe, Protective Barrier, and more! Really enjoyed this experience, global leaderboard, unlockable characters, powerup items purchased in the shop, etc. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did! If you enjoy games like The Binding of Isaac and Smash TV, you will definitely enjoy this game as well.
Of Carrots And Blood is a mediocre 2D retro pixel wave survival twin-stick shooter (ugh). There's a blobby pixel carrot theme that really makes little sense and adds no value to an equally valueless game concept. You control a rabbit and there's a carrot in the middle of the single map the game has to offer, and you throw carrots at mushrooms to protect a large carrot. Yeah, me neither. Believe it or not, the technical execution here is even worse than the crap game concept. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 11 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Of Carrots And Blood is ridiculously overpriced pixelcrap, at $3 USD, and it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
