This could be a great game in theory... but the difficulty is pretty off. It starts out moderately easy, and lets you pick the difficulty you want. But right near the end of the first chapter and the beginning of the second, it simultaneously gets a helluva lot harder AND locks the option to switch difficulty. There are a ton of upgrades but you can only choose a very few of them due to the game's dual currency system. You also get penalized very heavily for ranking up (wut?) and get a lot less money.
I really hate to give this game a bad review because it has a ton of good things going for it. However, the "feature" were basically the more you play, the more money taken away from you after every level is horrible. I'm at the point where I'm only getting to keep 28% of what I've earned, increasing the grind immensely. Such a terrible system to have in an otherwise solid shmup.

What a gem of a game takes me back to the days of 80`s arcades GORF/ GALAGA etc - love it - the controls are slick - the graphics are cool and the sound is fine. Keep it up guys loving it!!
Good shooter with nicely implemented upgrade system. Maybe a bit long as it took me over 8 hours to beat, so a bit more variation or maybe 2 hour shorter playtime would have been optimal, but anyway a fine game.
Surprisingly addictive. Cosmonator plays different from most standard shmups I can think of out there. Careful dodging is difficult due to your ship's large hitbox and lack of a slow movement button, so the game instead focuses on positioning and (more importantly) your use of upgrades and spells. The shop is probably the best feature of this game. You can buy all sorts of abilities and customize your build, and while I'd say not all of them are viable on the harder difficulties, overall these abilities are well-balanced and fun to use. The hardest difficulty - impossible - will offer up quite a challenge, but aside from that the game shouldn't require much grinding for money to continue. The rank system, as many have pointed out, is not the best, as it gives you less money over time for the same missions, but this also prevents you from grinding earlier missions over and over again for easy money. While the visuals aren't the most unique ou there, one thing that really stands out about Cosmonator is the soundtrack. Power Core's theme in particular is fantastic, and the music in general has a great sci-fi feel to it. Overall this is a game that's way too easy to find yourself going "just one more mission", before you realize you've been saying that same thing for the past 4 hours straight. Check it out for sure.
Really, really love the game, and it gave me Tetris effect ^_^ Nicely paced gameplay, nice upgrade system, very clear graphics. Minor quibbles - most of the bosses / mid-size enemies had a boxy look that wasn't very interesting to me, and I've had a few (Java null pointer) crashes using spells (although this seems to be due to the sheer might of my upgraded and synergistic missile barrages, so it's kind of cool). The reward modifier thing didn't bother me at all - I think the way to play is to just get what you get and it's enough to keep you upgrading, and only to maybe grind for cash rarely.
Cheesy name but great game. basic graphics but great gameplay. crashes on occasion but has great depth of customabilty. if you love old school shoot em ups with a twist then this game is for you. your pilot can even learn spells. must be a space wizard, jedi perhaps is he?
Great Shump/RPG lite. Lots of builds you can use and grinding is not encouraged.
Although I like the gameplay, I would recommend it just because of the soundtrack!
