Great game, and I feel like most of the negative reviews are a bit harsh. Will it succeed to hold your attention for many runs in a row? I don't know. But not every game needs to have infinite replayability. It's okay to play it, finish it, and move on to the next game. But the combat is really fun and the music slaps. Enough to at least give you a very fun first run. The game's got great humour on top of that, and lots of fun references without being corny. The UI is straightforward and simple in all the right ways. The graphics are detailed and stylistic. Literally the only negative experience I had so far was a vehicle autopathing into a lane where it would hit a wall and be destroyed, even though the vehicles it meant to circle around were also moving away in the same direction. Which, tbf, I could have micro'ed a bit better anyway. If you can be bothered researching if you would enjoy replaying this game lots, you can decide to buy it without a discount. Otherwise, you can wait for a sale and pick it up cheap.
The concept is good. Mad Max style roadcombat with some quirky writing. Learning curve is quite steep and the combat is decent with vehicle and weapon variety. So why the negative review? Twice now I have completed missions in game only to drive towards the reward site and find that it is in fact OUTSIDE the playable map... This game punishes you for wasting time, difficulty scales with time (as far as I can see) so it becomes hugely frustrating when, after a literally wild goose chase (turkey chase. Those who have played the game will know the event) and then come up with less than nothing for it. Fix the bugs. Maybe expand the number of radio signals as I have had so many repeat on me. I want to recommend this, and I will gladly change my review if the bugs are fixed. I will come back after it has been patched, if it will be that is. Going to go play some FTL now I think to scratch this itch.
Significantly Different from FTL
The game was inspired by FTL as per the developers, and it has been compared to FTL very often, but it differs from FTL in significant ways that change the gameplay entirely. Instead of making linear progress from one end of the galaxy to another, in this game, after crash-landing on a planet with your spaceship, you freely roam around the (hostile) planet with your convoy in search of replacements for your broken ship parts. This means you can prepare for almost each and every quest as well as you intend to, by grinding random events and encounters, before taking on the mini-bosses and the boss, and more significantly, you can come back to shops when you have scraps to trade with, instead of hit and miss with shop nodes on the primarily linear map of FTL. Some may say that managing when to hit the shops adds more nuance to gameplay, but I personally prefer the freedom this game style offers (same reason why I prefer Griftlands over Slay the Spire).
The Good:

Do quests and hit shops at your own convenience (except random encounters that can happen at any time).
The game doesn’t end once you run out of fuel. Instead, you send radio signals in hopes of meeting merchants or raiders to trade or fight.
You can easily activate dev mode and change/fix issues with the game.

The Bad:

UI scaling is non-existent, so if you are playing on a higher resolution screen, good luck reading anything in this text heavy game (the story is not really that important for you to know, but you at least need to see your convoy stats).
Your vehicles do not auto-aim enemies. While I can understand that managing who is targeting what is part of the RTS management, it would have been nice if the option to auto-aim nearest enemies existed, as things get repetitive after a while.
For a small game, it seems to take up a lot of resources and my PC goes on overdrive whenever I run it.

The Ugly:

I have encountered one specific bug more than once where while looking for one ship part, you have the option to switch it with a fake obtained during the quest. However, each time I did it, the quest marker didn’t update and kept pointing at the now-empty spot, which is a game-breaking bug as you cannot progress without finishing the main quests.
Some achievements are kept behind heavy RNG (with a 1:2899 odds as per devs for the Lucky Fether achievement unlocked via gambling). I did get the jackpot several times at the slot machine, but that didn’t unlock the achievement for me. Also, apart from the “gambling time” quest, I vaguely remember seeing another quest with “casino” in the quest name, so not sure if there are two similar quests and it needs to be done at the rarer one. However, I eventually got fed up and unlocked it via dev mode. I also encountered the Dragon much much later than usual.
Overall it is a fun little game that I highly recommend for short burst play as you can easily finish a run in about an hour. However, game-breaking bugs in a decade old game is inexcusable (you can summon the boss with dev mode, bypassing quests).
I played this game 10 years ago and really enjoyed it back then, I then sort of forgot about it due to playing other games but I've been hoping for a successor to it all this time and still have yet to see a game do what it does as well. So decided to come back and leave a review just to show my support for this. This is a convoy game where you have your command vehicle (you lose if it dies) and then a bunch of optional vehicles you can obtain over a run. You can upgrade all of them with various weapons and such and you can also unlock various upgrades for your command vehicle by doing in game achievements so there is a bit of a roguelite element to the game for replayability. Overall, I remember really enjoying it when I played it back in the day and I'm probably going to jump back in this weekend just because I've been hankering for a game just like this but in 10 years no one has delivered on that. Hope the devs are doing ok wherever they are in life right now.
Twisted Metal reborn as a roguelike.
Very frustrating, janky, too hard from the get go and doesn't respect your time. Only buy from sale and if you have tons of time to bang your head over and over to a brick wall.
If you liked FTL, you'll like Convoy (give it a moment). It has a different vibe but it is similarly enjoyable. A little more interactivity with the way your convoy was upgraded or creating people to work on it would be fun, but I do think FTL spoiled me in that regard. A little more repetitive but with plenty of replayability, I still had a blast with Convoy and will return in future.
Real fun game I find myself falling back to every once and a while. Challenging game play. Fun side quests. I really like the feel of the game. It's really in due for an update or sequel
Terrible. Things appear suddenly out of nowhere and 100% total your cars, which aren't quick enough to move out of the way. Then you end up with no cars, just your main vehicle which can't fight. It's a bit like the game says "haha ♥♥♥♥ you!" all of a sudden. Not fun.
