Not my cup of tea. It's to much "movie" for my taste, meaning that the game is heavily directed, and relay to much on cut-scenes to tell the story. I didn't find the story to be so interesting either, sort of "budget David Lynch" or something like that, basically an art-film camouflaged as a videogame. I have mixed opinions on combat, the enemies are mostly just "bullet-sponges", but the special powers you can wield are cool, I just wish there where more creative ways to use them. I can however see why many will rate this game highly, it kind of have a similar structure to a typical "Naughty Dog"-game, (game developer for Sony Playstation). And those games are quite popular, I personally just find them boring to play, and I did like watching the TV-series (The Last of Us) and movie (Uncharted) more than playing those games. (I'm not saying that the TV-series and movie was amazing, I just liked them more than the games).
Control blends a narrative-driven third-person action with surreal horror and environmental storytelling, to transmute into a fascinating fictional universes. You unexpectedly become the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a secret government agency dedicated to investigating and containing supernatural phenomena and anomalies that defy the laws of reality. When the Bureau's headquarters - an eternally shifting mega-structure dubbed The Oldest House - is overrun by an transdimensional alien force, it's up to you to unravel its source. Remedy Entertainment managed to perfect their meld of world-interaction and combat, following their experience with Quantum Break three years prior to Control. You will be able to use a small array of anomalous abilities to bend reality to your will, alongside a destructible environment where you can use any object in nearby vicinity as a weapon. To gain the upper hand over enigmatic alien forces, you won't only have to engage in customizable-modular gunplay, but in environment manipulation - ripping chunks of concrete from the walls, hurling forklifts across rooms, levitating above the battlefield, or seizing enemies' minds. The fundamental lore is what sets apart this experience from the rest. SCP fans will immediately recognize familiar concepts like the presence of covert government containment agencies and reality-defying entities - but Control does not feel like an imitation. Remedy Entertainment builds its own mythology around Altered World Events, Objects of Power, the Astral Plane, and the enigmatic covert Board. Rather than simply cataloging supernatural threats, the game explores humanity's attempt to understand forces that exist completely outside human comprehension. The result is a universe rich with existential mystery that stands confidently on its own. Narratively, there are a huge amount of story to be discovered through documents, recordings, live-action found footage, and cryptic conversations gradually piece together the Bureau's history. Controls’ primary location serves not only as a backdrop, but as an ever-changing set piece where concrete corridors reshape themselves without warning, and dimensions fold into one another into ethereal landscapes. Control is a must-experience title for those innately showing proclivity to SCP fandom & its sister universes. Despite intertwining similarities & the inherent Remedy-verse appeal, Control offers a great deal of unique and existential lore without necessitating using other paranormal folklore as a creative crutch.
Eldritch horror and psychic power fantasy in equal parts. Easy recommend.
Played on multiple different platforms and it still remains one of my favourite games. This edition I'm playing on steam deck, a few instances where posters aren't loading in properly or Jesse doesn't have eyebrows even on unlimited frame rate, but it doesn't take away from the story
