If you don't have hardcore friends who'd try it out with you, just play CoH2 instead. I haven't yet played a match to completion, where people wouldn't leave mid-game, because some micro action they wanted to do failed... Then you have bots replace them, and even hard bots are easier to defeat than beginners. Hard pass.
It was fun at first I suppose, but then after an hour or 2 I realized that this is kinda just the exact same mission every single time. Between the operations or the italy campaign, every match feels exactly the same
compared to COH 2 its quite bad mostly in the balance department
I want to like this game because it is COH and I really like the COH franchise. But it fails to live up to its predecessors. This game has come a long way from its launch. The dev team has worked to improve it and have made the game feel like COH once did. It still has its issues. A cover based RTS that lacks red cover....ummm.... that is very poor design choice at best. This can lead to team games developing into games feeling like a StarCraft match with a soft cover mechanic. Or just Company of Blobs. What used to reward combined arms and superior micro has been lost. Bunker/fighting pits and the like must have a population cost. It allows spamming fortification and still being able to field an army. Throw in the ill thought out Italian Coastal BG. This type of BG is cancer to a game like COH. Map design is hit or miss. Large open maps to maps made up of chokepoint after chokepoint, there is definitely a variety. Some of these issues above are compounded by maps. The game is what it is at this point.
Let's start by saying this. I wouldn't ever say I hate this game, I have always loved this series, it was always something I have deep dived looking into but never got working on my parent's old PC, then I got a macbook air & gladly played CoH 2 on 25 fps for over 200 hours. Now with my current PC I am nearing 400 hours on CoH 2 & 70 on CoH 1 which is climbing almost daily. This game has some issues, unit balance feels off, the german units seem to have an edge over everything the allies have in the vanilla game to the point where it doesn't feel like a fun challenge compared to units in vanilla CoH 1 & 2, I personally am not a fan of the battlegroups and what they add for their prices, either being too much for too little, or at times can be broken compared to base BGs. I also have a personal issue over the UI specifically more for the in game UI, it leaves a lot to be desired and units placement isn't great. The campaigns have become more lacking but I will say it's hard to go off CoH 1 and 2 which had amazing storylines, with CoH 1 being ontop for content, cutscenes, voice acting & atmosphere. AI skirmishes are ridiculous at times on high resources if you're trying to mess around with units or learn the game, starting with max command points when certain BGs can spawn vehicles quicker than others and have a near on instant win for an easy/normal AI because you're learning certain aspects of the game was not fun compared to high resources in CoH 1 & 2 where you can learn unit build orders & build more units than a standard game and be able to play at a pace that is similar to a standard resource skirmish. To now cut my rant somewhat short. I don't hate CoH 3, it has some differences that I personally don't enjoy over CoH 1 & 2 & it has aspects where it objectively lacks to it's predecessors, certain balancing issues plague the game even now after initial launch and a battlegroup "commander" model that can be a mix of pay 2 win or lacking in content compared to price sold. I am going to complete both campaigns fully and tick this game off the list of finishing some of my favourite franchises. I give CoH 3 a 5.4/10
