The art is great, but the translation is so bad I'm not sure what they are trying to say. Considering this is a visual novel sort of game, it failed at its main goal of conveying the storyline.
"At least it doesn't have a lot of positive reviews in Russian from gifted keys... oh... wait." ™ So here's Colorless Life, a totally broken and horribly translated Russian "horror" game littered with fake reviews. It's yet another testament to the failure of Steam's quality control system and their total lack of giving any sort of crap as to whether or not developers abuse reviews. What is the game? It's a black, white, and gray side-scrolling game about depression, where you play as a guy named Vince. It's about 30 minutes in length, and is filled with bugs that come close to breaking the game. While the WSAD keys are used to control Vince and E interacts with doors and notes, you have to use the mouse to click on certain things; the cursor only shows up when it feels like it, completely preventing the player from progressing in some places. That's okay though, because the sooner you quit playing Colorless Life, the better. Though you can get the general gist of what's going on, the Russian to English translation is done so badly that the only real deduction you'll come to is the game is about depression and giving in to suicide; totally vanilla, when it's clear there's more depth to be had. There are some made up words thrown in for good measure, too. Hell, it's so awful that there are some texts that are totally unrendered, instead left with strings of characters with diacritics like êêêêêîîîîäääää. There's a good idea swimming behind all of this debauchery, it's just too bad that the game is plagued by total disregard for any type of quality assurance, and all of the fake positive reviews lingering about.
Don't let emo kids play this xd Game is bad and very glitched: 1. Crashes on fullscreen 2. Sometimes text is on russian even tho i set it to english 2. Story is
retarded, poorly written
The game tries to have a very serious and somber atmosphere which is immediately foiled by the incomprehensible wording in this game.If your going to create a story based game where most of the content revolves around the dialogue of the characters it only seems logical to make sure the conversations are understandable and grammatically sound. In addition to the game's poor (non voice acted) linguistics, pacing also seems really awkward and I found myself 4 chapters into the game in 16 min. For a game of such little substance, I can not even recommend paying 1.99 for this.
Tja was soll ich sagen? Schade.
Colorless Life is a really badly made Russian 2D retro pixel "horror" themed side view adventure game where you wander around a colourless environment and plod through an excruciatingly badly written and badly translated adventure game plot. Talk about draining all the fun out of video games. The game also attempts to behave as an armchair psychologist by tackling themes such as suicide. Trying to address social issues through the medium of video games is misguided and can be harmful. While it's plausible to suggest the intention was noble, this can do more harm than good. Game developers are not professionals in areas of mental health and social problems, and when they use video games to pretend they are, this can cause far more harm than good. It's my opinion that it's improper to use video games to push political or social agendas. Apart from the harm such hamfisted attempts at addressing social problems can cause, this offers zero benefit to PC gamers. People suffering from health issues or other social problems should seek out professional help rather than going to crap shovelware video games attempting to get sales by exploiting such problems for their own benefit, as is the case here. This game has been translated from some other language into English... badly. If this was done through Google Translate, Google Translate should feel ashamed of itself. Regardless, the language in this game is broken and will put off a lot of gamers. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Construct Classic video game construction kit. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's worse than GameMaker Studio!). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Colorless Life is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
I dont like this game. Crashes on fullscreen, horrible soundtrack. No story. Just walking. Maybe devs thought it will be scary, but it really isnt....
So the beginning saw me paralyzed in an open field. All I could do was slowly observe the world move around me, the grass getting greener as summer drew near. Then dying just as soon as it was given life as winter rolled around. Eventually another man joined me in the field. He sat cross legged not but 3 feet from me. His eyes were eternally locked onto mine as he unhinged his jaw and began to spew the uncomprehensible truths of my life. In three words he said it all and sent me spiraling through the field and into pitch darkness. That's when I woke up and realized I had had this game running for 25 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours as I passed out drunk on the couch. To rate the game, it's a pile of hot garbage. If you want something to pass out drunk with try Civ V or Skyrim. Both have the benefit that when you wake up you can continue the slaughter of nations.
