I was looking for copper and found ... silver. The game is a nice interactive Java tutorial. It lets you solve the task any way you like under Java syntax restrictions. There is no "correct way", you can do anything you like inside provided base method unlike many other such "tutorials". The learning curve is also nice.
Wow! Personal opinion: It is, surely, a great concept. Though, I would say, if you don't have any previous experience with coding, the conditions you are placed in may be a bit confusing, however, this a impeccable place to start. I myself have studied several Object Oriented programming languages, so, the game was a fun and interesting way just to learn the basics of Java's syntax. There are things I want to mention if you are to buy this product: - Sometimes its hard to understand the meaning of some definitions -- feel free to google details. It seems, that author didn't want to burden players with unnecessary, though interesting, information. - There are repetitive tasks. To learn the language you should firm the basics first. It may be boring (at least at the beginning) - The visual aesthetics are pretty, but the game is unfinished, it seems. Or, if it is finished, the visual component has some roughness to it - it is the first game of Author's after all. Of course, you are here not for the aesthetics. - The world is interactive with code! This was an exceptionally cool discovery for me, I was fascinated by this. What, in my opinion, can be added: - IntelleSense or some kind of auto-complite. God, how I was missing this after VS and PyCharm. Not using it, while programming, feels like a torture. But an unaware person wouldn't know, so, 50/50. - Shortcuts. Ctrl-Z isn't working, kind of annoying, but okay, i guess. - Playground/Sandbox. In the process, for the sole purpose of addition repetition and revision I would like to play, to fiddle a bit with code. Opening a new window, downloading a special piece of software just doesn't sit right with me in a place, where IDE is already implemented. - Storage for already written programs. After you get a task done, the window closes almost immediately - so, why not give player a chance to revisit his old achievements? - I guess, this is just personal subjective thing, but if we collect the sheets with Java "lore" from the Wizard, why not write them with a wizardy bit? This would be authentic and funny, however, the sheets themselves are nice, overall. Some mistakes here and there but understandable. Nevertheless, this is a great experience! Highly recommend.
I love how the game starts off by editing code rather than writing code. Editing someone else's code is much better way to introduce coding. However I wish there was more opportunity to write code as well in the game. You interact with the game environment with functions that the dev created for you. Because you are editing complex, not beginner level, functions that the dev wrote, you don't really understand how they work and furthermore because little is explained, the code is complex. This game is filling a niche for people who know how to code and want to quickly learn Java. Thus this game is a buy if you know how code and want to learn Java quickly or you are determined to learn Java and do not mind using AI and search engines to teach yourself as you progress in the game. However if you have to teach yourself, then I think that solving Java problems on Codewars might be time better spent.
Really good for exerice your basic java knwoledge ! :)
Just what i was looking for. This game is excellent for those who want to learn the basics of Java!
Big note: For anyone playing this game, the cheat sheet tab is vital for most of the later puzzles if you are a beginner to Java. Make sure you are looking there for any puzzle that you find your journal does not provide you with enough info for. So far a very fun game, a few issues that might be a problem for beginners, but hoping the developer iterates on it a bit with some feedback. Overall, this is fun for intermediate to expert coders, and hopefully with some feedback and iteration, can be great for beginners as well. All said, if you have a friend who wants to learn coding and you are willing to be on hand to support them while playing this game, it can make an excellent supplementary tool for that friend to stay engaged and see the effects of their code in an entertaining way.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
Hab das Spiel nach 30 Minuten wieder refundet, aus zwei Gründe: 1) Die "Lösungen"(Code) muss ein ganz spezielles Muster folgen. Anders geschrieben, was aber das selbe Ergebnis erzeugt? Nope, Pech gehabt.
Realmente superou as expectativas.
I appreciate the effort but i cant recommend it as a learning tool. It throws a lot of text at you without a lot of good explanations. The background music is pretty grating after about 10 minutes and had to turn it off. I think its a good attempt at a product but its missing things that make it feel like a game instead of a glorified late 90s early 2000s educational software.
