The Battle of Gettysburg was fought from 1st to 3rd July 1863, in Pennsylvania. The battle resulted the largest number of casualties in any battle of the entire war, and was the turning point of the American Civil War. Over three days General George Meade’s Army of the Potomac defeated the Confederate army of General Robert E.

A solid game for the price. A few problems though. It would nice if the game would follow the action during the AI turn. It is too easy to miss the action while trying to scroll. The Day One scenario seems to be unhistorical in turns of Union arrivals. But otherwise a fun game with some really nice features.

It takes a bit getting used to since the units are coming in places not expected N at top of game. North is to the left. The music is the same over and over and gets way repetitive.
easy to learn how to play, fun playing
Simple enough. Fun. Not super long. pick up if cheap!
Room for strategic thinking and planning.
good solid game with lots of strategy and different options and scenarios too!
I really enjoyed this game already, and after 10 hours there's still at least 2 scenarios I really want to try. I started with the scenario called "Gettysburg (Master Edition)." The scenario description suggested "experienced players" might want to try it. I considered myself experienced as I had played and completed 2 other titles in the Civil War series by this Dev, Hexwar Games. The titles I had already played were called Civil War: 1861 and Civil War 1863. I was not disappointed! I played this game on Hard difficulty and it was a challenge, enough to be fun. I had to restart the scenario I think it was 3 times, as I made some mistakes and lost, before finally winning the scenario and the Battle of Gettysburg! As I mentioned it took me 10 hours to beat the scenario. I played it on Hard and won, but I did not select "Historical Mode," which is an option and would add to the challenge I think, so there's still reason for me to try the scenario again. The Master scenario of the full, 3 day battle involved accomplishing objectives, such as keeping the Rebs out of the town of Gettysburg until the end of turn 16. Once you accomplish the objectives new ones are given, for example, evacuate Gettysburg itself and occupy Cemetery Ridge, both by the end of turn 20. And so on. The final objective was to win the game by turn 54. I think I won on about turn 45 or 46. I won by destroying 70% of the enemy army. I forgot to mention - I only play these Civil War games as the Union. I am just not a reb! Just by choice, but I guess this review isn't complete as I only played the Union side of things. OK, this is getting longer than I planned! Long story short it was fun! There were historical units and the map was realistic - I think, but I don't have a Ph.D. in the Civil War :) Suffice to say, there was enough realism to be really cool without being overwhelming. Enough of a challenge to be interesting, without becoming frustrating. One other thing I want to mention is another scenario called "Little Round Top," which looks very cool. It's a blown up map of that one area of the battlefield, and the units are smaller, that is a line of troops represent companies rather than brigades. So it's focused on the fateful area of the battlefield. I didn't finish it yet but I definitely plan on giving it a go! Maybe I will write a review of that scenario in the discussions for this game. OK, this title and this series by developer Hexwar games is sort of like John Tiller lite, but for the price it was a steal, if you ask me, and while a little more casual than some other games perhaps, it really fulfilled my urge to play a Civil War game with a smaller investment of time and effort. I hope you try it and I hope you find it fun!! **************************** ***EDIT********************* I'd like to add a comment: I broke my own rules and played a Civil War game as The Confederates. It was actually a lot of fun! It required such different tactics and strategy than when playing The Union side of things, it was almost like playing a totally different game. It took me another 14 hours over 2 attempts to beat the Master Edition. So yeah, this game is pretty cool!
