Nope, hässliche Grafik, 30 FPS Begrenzung (warum auch immer) für neue Monitore ungeeignet, total verbuggt, nicht lohnenswert!
It's fun overall. Some of the mini-games aren't my thing so I skipped them, but the game has lots of hidden object screens and is really nice and festive. Sound cuts out regularly, but oh well.
This is a lovely hidden object game. Considering it's from 2017 it's actually very well animated and visually very beautiful. I also found it thematically well adapted and a perfect game for the holidays The puzzles, the story, the hidden object puzzles were all carrying that Christmas carol theme. The puzzles aren't always well explained, but all in all this was a very wholesome experience and with six hours playtime from my side really a good length for a hidden object game
Christmas Stories: A Christmas Carol Collector's Edition is a warm, narrative-focused hidden-object puzzle adventure that reimagines one of the most enduring holiday tales through interactive storytelling and cozy exploration. Developed by Elephant Games and published by BFG Entertainment, the game is part of the long-running Christmas Stories series and stays firmly rooted in the traditions of the HOPA genre. Rather than attempting to modernize or subvert its source material, it embraces the familiar structure and themes of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, transforming them into a relaxed, atmospheric experience that emphasizes mood, character, and gentle puzzle-solving. The story follows the classic arc of Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey toward redemption, guiding players through key moments inspired by Dickens’s novella. As Scrooge encounters the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come, players explore richly illustrated environments that reflect both the warmth and sorrow of Victorian-era London. The narrative unfolds gradually, allowing players to absorb the emotional beats without rushing, and the pacing is carefully tuned to maintain a sense of progression while still encouraging lingering observation. Familiar characters such as Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim are woven naturally into the adventure, reinforcing the story’s emotional core and grounding the experience in themes of compassion, generosity, and reflection. Gameplay adheres closely to established hidden-object adventure conventions, alternating between searching detailed scenes for specific items and solving a variety of light logic puzzles. The hidden-object scenes are thoughtfully constructed, balancing visual clutter with clarity so that finding items feels rewarding rather than frustrating. Mini-games add variety to the flow, offering pattern recognition challenges, mechanical puzzles, and simple logic tests that fit comfortably within the game’s relaxed tone. None of these puzzles are particularly demanding, but they are consistently engaging and serve to break up exploration in a way that keeps the experience from feeling monotonous. Visually, the game excels at creating a festive and nostalgic atmosphere. Snow-covered streets, candlelit interiors, and softly glowing decorations evoke the warmth of the holiday season, while character portraits and animated elements add personality to each scene. The art style is polished and cohesive, favoring hand-painted detail over realism, which suits the fairy-tale quality of the story. Complementing the visuals is a gentle musical score and ambient sound design that reinforces the sense of comfort and seasonal charm, making the game feel especially inviting during winter months. The Collector’s Edition expands on the base experience with additional content that adds value for fans of the genre. Bonus chapters extend the story and provide more time with beloved characters, while optional collectibles and achievements encourage thorough exploration of every scene. Extras such as replayable puzzles, concept art, and other unlockables cater to completionists and players who enjoy revisiting their favorite moments. These additions don’t radically alter the gameplay, but they deepen the overall package and make the experience feel more complete. Like many titles in the hidden-object genre, the game does not attempt to innovate mechanically, and players familiar with Elephant Games’ catalog will recognize many familiar systems and design choices. Occasional technical quirks or pacing slowdowns can arise, particularly on modern systems, but these issues rarely overshadow the core experience. The game’s predictability may limit its appeal for players seeking challenge or novelty, yet for its intended audience, this familiarity is part of the charm rather than a flaw. Ultimately, Christmas Stories: A Christmas Carol Collector’s Edition succeeds by delivering a heartfelt, accessible adaptation of a timeless holiday story. Its strength lies in atmosphere, storytelling, and consistency, offering a soothing and enjoyable experience that feels like settling in with a familiar tale by the fire. For fans of hidden-object adventures and players looking for a cozy, story-driven game to enjoy during the holiday season, it provides a satisfying and gently immersive journey that honors both its literary roots and its genre traditions. Rating: 7/10
This was my second game in the Christmas Stories series. It took me 7 hours to play the main game & the bonus content. I really enjoyed both - they flowed well, a nice level of difficulty & the illustrations were really charming. The bonus story especially made me smile. I got the game on sale and feel like I got more than my money's worth.
Elephant Game's sequel to Christmas Stories deviates quite a bit from Charles Dickens's story to the point it feels like an alternate timeline. This is especially true if you play the collector’s edition. Yet it would be wrong to say the game is a failure. Its intentions to change the story show the developers putting effort into making something new while trying to make it still feel like the Dickens story. In other words, it retains enough of A Christmas Carol but isn’t afraid to change things. The fact the developers have created an adaptation that still somewhat no pun intended keeps the ‘spirit’ of the Dickens story is frankly a Christmas miracle. God bless everyone!
You're certainly getting value for money with this one. it's quite long, without frustration for the most part, and a nice story. the only complaint i have is... you guys know you don't have to cut a rope every time right? knots can be undone! i promise!
I'm fond of both Hidden Object games and Christmas so I had to try this one out. I first saw it when Brutalmoose on Youtube played it and it looked like so much fun that I had to download it myself. The puzzles aren't too difficult, which I appreciate, and I like the additional challenge of finding all the penguins.
I was a fan until John left the show...
Very cute and not what I expected from a seasonal game. The production values were amazing, the mini-games challenging - even the HO scenes were challenging, lol. Nicely done even if it doesn't have all the plot points and nuances of the novel. I especially enjoyed the bonus chapter, lol.
