This implementation is very buggy for multiplayer. Our group had to restart a campaign because the game is stuck and no one can make it proceed. Luckily, that was only on game 2 or so. Now we're much further in and I can't join the game even though it shows up on the lobby list. I will agree that the game rules appear to be implemented well, but randomly being forced to lose progress in incredibly frustrating. Edit: Big hours played number is leaving the game running in the background waiting for others turns. Actual time interacting with the game is about 10 games worth.
For the love of god, fix the UI and AI. It is so poorly done, the AI hoard all the crates and buildings then stick their thumb up their ass. It pathetic! I am screaming at my screen for them to do anything useful, for themselves even smh. Just like my dad saying he is only getting milk at the store, I am left waiting and disappointed. Fix the AI and I might give this a positive review.
Not having played the board game, I found this digital edition to be difficult to learn, mostly because there is just so much information to look at. But even once I knew the ropes, it just wasn't that interesting to me. I think there are better worker placement games out there. I might enjoy completing a campaign with a group of friends, but if you don't have that lined up, I wouldn't recommend playing this solo.

The board game itself has some innovative mechanics to it, so if you enjoy strategy games this is definitely a game for you. Unlike the board game you can play these scenarios as often as you want. Also, during pandemic times you would want to play online with friends anyway. There are some mildly annoying issues to the digital game play (e.g. you're forced to scroll through the contents of a crate to progress the game, even if you've seen that crate a hundred times) and as it is often the case with board game adaptations the AI could make better strategic choices. Nice adaptation of the artwork and the mechanics though.
This board game works much better and is far more re-playable as an electronic version than as a physical board game. Gameplay itself is fun, interactive, challenging, and rewarding. Definite recommend.
I won this game through SteamGifts. I got Charterstone: Digital Edition as a giveaway win on Steamgifts through the playing appreciated group, and I was pretty excited to try it out. It’s based on a real-life board game, which I’ve never played, but I’m always down for a good turn-based, board game-style experience. Going in, I’ll admit I felt a bit lost. The game does offer a tutorial, but since I had no background with the physical board game, some of the mechanics felt confusing. There’s a lot of resource management, building, and strategizing involved, but I struggled to understand how it all tied together. I kept wondering if I was missing some crucial context that veterans of this board game already knew about. I played through the campaign, but if I’m honest, I didn’t really enjoy it much. The gameplay loop didn’t click for me, and I felt like I was just going through the motions rather than making meaningful decisions. It’s not a bad game by any means—it seems like there’s a solid strategy game under the surface—but I just couldn’t get into it. Visually, the game is nice enough. It has a clean, cartoony art style that fits the board game vibe. The interface does its job, but it felt a bit cluttered at times, especially when trying to track all the different mechanics and options. I think Charterstone is probably best suited for people who have played the physical version or are really into board games and don’t mind a bit of a learning curve. For someone like me, who went in blind, it felt a little overwhelming and not very engaging. Still, I’m glad I won it and was able to give it a shot, and maybe if you’re more familiar with the genre, you’ll have a better time. As for me, I’d say it was a meh experience.
It is a must for us who love the board game. Never thought I could finish the whole charterstone campaing in only five hours. Nice graphics, great implementation of the rules, loved the gameplay. But if you don't know the boargame, you would be probably a bit lost, especially on the very beginning of the game.
One of the most cool board games with legacy mechanics. Digital edition is pretty good too.
I love board games - and particularly love digital versions that do away with the work of managing real world tokens and automates management and calculations. This game though - AWFUL introduction. Impossible to know if it is good because the barrier to entry is so high. Appears to be a worker placement/engine building legacy game with a 'cozy' vibe. The training/demo is terrible. Unless you already know how to play, don't expect to learn in-game. If you do get a little further, it plays like solving a particularly dull math problem of maximizing moves and ends up making the cardinal sin of being Work instead of Fun. Avoid.
