For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

Caves of Qud is a Hugo Award-winning science fantasy roguelike epic steeped in retrofuturism, deep simulation, and swathes of sentient plants. Come inhabit a living, breathing world and chisel through layers of thousand-year-old civilizations. Decide: is it a dying earth, or is it on the verge of rebirth?

Do anything and everything. Caves of Qud is a deeply simulated, biologically diverse, richly cultured world.
DEEP PHYSICAL SIMULATION — Don’t like the wall blocking your way? Dig through it with a pickaxe, or eat through it with your corrosive gas mutation, or melt it to lava. Yes, every wall has a melting point.
FULLY SIMULATED CREATURES — Every monster and NPC is as fully simulated as the player. That means they have levels, skills, equipment, faction allegiances, and body parts. So if you have a mutation that lets you, say, psionically dominate a spider, you can traipse through the world as a spider, laying webs and eating things.
DYNAMIC FACTION SYSTEM — Pursue allegiances with over 70 factions: apes, crabs, trees, robots, and highly entropic beings, just to name a few.
RICHLY DETAILED SCIENCE FANTASY SETTING — Over fifteen years of worldbuilding have led to a rich, weird, labyrinthine, one-of-a-kind storyworld, layered on top of the simulation, all for you to explore. Live and drink, friend.
TACTICAL GAMEPLAY — Turn-based, sandbox exploration and combat offers as many solutions as you and your mutations, implants, artifacts, and skills are creative enough to invent.
RPG ELEMENTS — Quests, NPCs, villages, historic sites; some dynamic and some handwritten, interwoven to produce a transportative RPG experience.
ATMOSPHERIC ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK — Over two hours of otherworldly music to delve to.

Caves of Qud has one of the most expressive character creators of all time.
Play the role of a mutant indigenous to the salt-spangled dunes and jungles of Qud, or play a true kin descendant from one of the few remaining eco-domes — the toxic arboreta of Ekuemekiyye, the ice-sheathed arcology of Ibul, or the crustal mortars of Yawningmoon.
Build your character out of:
Over 70 mutations — outfit yourself with wings, two heads, four arms, flaming hands, teleportation, the power to clone yourself…
Dozens of cybernetic implants (and more to find as treasure) — night vision, translucent skin, carbide fists, spring-loaded ankle tendons…
24 castes and kits from across the social order of Qud and beyond Moghra’yi, the Great Salt Desert
Too overwhelmed to build a character from scratch? Choose one of 9 preset characters and start your adventure right away. Then return to character creation when you are ready.

Play one of four modes:
CLASSIC — Like other traditional roguelikes, this mode has permadeath, meaning you lose your character when you die. Extremely challenging even for experts.
ROLEPLAY — Play it like an RPG. Save your progress at checkpoints located in settlements.
WANDER — Focus on exploration. Most creatures will not attack you, you don’t gain experience by killing, but you DO gain experience by discovering new locations and treating with legendary creatures.
DAILY — One chance with a fixed character and world seed. How long will you survive?

After 9 years of continuous development and frequent updates, Caves of Qud has finally reached its 1.0 release! Here are some highlights of what's been added for 1.0:
The last leg of the main quest
The new, fully graphical UI
Hundreds of visual & sound effects
Lots of polish & stability

Caves of Qud is a project of epic proportions that's been in development for over fifteen years, since 2007. It began as the science fantasy roguelike dream of co-creators Jason Grinblat and Brian Bucklew, who released the first beta in 2010. Since then, it's accrued a few more contributors who have enriched the project by helping to add visual effects, sound effects, an original soundtrack, a new UI, new game systems, new lore, and half a world of content. Caves of Qud has grown into a wild garden of emergent narrative, where a handwritten story weaves a path through rich physical, social, and historical simulations. The result is a hybrid handcrafted and procedurally-generated world that's alive in a way few games are.

It feels devoid of an actual game. It's just procedurally generated *stuff* with descriptions so flowery that my eyes glaze over, and some basic immersive sim systems. Or rather, the immersive systems are missing something in the middle. The store page will brag about each block of wall having a melting point, but it doesn't look like villagers have any real behavior besides wandering around. I've never been more bored by a game I've sat and watched my characters in Kenshi grow stronger or lose limbs doing hard labor in prison over the course of real hours due to the emergent behaviors of various factions and the dangerous world. But it seems like the only encounter ending that this game can conceive of is death by ranged attack. I obviously didn't give this game *too* much of a chance, but the store page makes it seem like their character creator is some work of art with absolute freedom to have tons of limbs and yada yada. Nothing changes. It's just a skill tree with some sci-fi (text-only) flavor. Yipee... now I can mind control TWO random farmers into bumbling around and half-heartedly attacking a crocodile. And oh look, using one of those charm skills ON the crocodile will make it love me! Isn't that so entertaining?! "Crocodile has fallen in love with you" wow so cool and emergent, you can really do anything!!! I'm so bored And I usually try not to pin this on the games themselves, but I have not seen much good from this game's community anywhere. Reading through the comments under the negative reviews will show you weird responses from fans and dev alike. Weirded me out enough to finally bother writing a review

Caves of Qud is a turn-based roguelike RPG set in a far-future world where advanced technology and strange mutations have reshaped life into something alien and unpredictable. The game blends science fiction and fantasy, creating a setting filled with sentient plants, ancient ruins, bizarre creatures, and remnants of long-lost civilizations. Remember that Turn based isn't exactly how you think it is. it is based on every time use your character for "1 tick" then the whole game moves forwad one tick. Players can choose to be either a “true kin” human or a mutant, with mutants having access to a wide range of unusual abilities like psychic powers, extra limbs, or elemental mutations. Character creation is highly flexible, allowing for a huge variety of playstyles. Gameplay focuses on exploration, survival, and experimentation. The world is procedurally generated, and most systems interact in complex ways—environmental effects, factions, and creatures all behave dynamically. You can approach situations through combat, stealth, diplomacy, or creative use of your abilities and the environment. The fun for me is all of this coupled with it being dofferent every time. So fun! One of the game’s defining features is its depth. Nearly everything is simulated, leading to emergent gameplay where unexpected situations and stories arise naturally from the systems rather than being scripted. Ultimately, Caves of Qud is less about reaching a final goal and more about discovering the world and creating your own story through the choices you make. Basically Dwarf Fortress wiithout the building and focuses on having an adventure. Runs on anything!
Caves of Qud me ganhou na hora. Recomendo.
At its heart, CoQ is a game about life. It will not hold your hand, it will not pull its punches, and it will not play fair. You must be willing to win by any means. There is no strategy too unbalanced, there is no preparation that is too great. To win, you must treat the game as mercilessly as it treats you. And while it is certainly not for the faint of heart, the feeling of winning, and dominating an opponent so ruthless cannot be understated. Destroy those that you cannot conquer and turn the established order on its head. Long live the sultanate
I might have a problem, but this game is just too great. I wish there were more games that affect me like this one. And yeah I am one of those people who enjoys it with permadeath all the way to the end.
By far the game's biggest issue is its writing. The lore chases after better-known examples of environmental storytelling in games, asking to be taken seriously by requiring you play with a dictionary open, confusing the veil of high-register English for substance. You know what grade of material you're working with the moment the ubiquitous 'Live and drink' first appears on screen. As a sandbox roguelike it can be fun, and occasionally it impresses with the little things it lets you do and have unfold. But not enough, at least for me, to keep playing.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game man campaign-driver roguelikes are a sight to behold. if you are a newcomer, do lose a few characters to classic mode (if you can squeeze into the "i will do all i can but the character will be for sure even though it looks like i am ready for anything" mindset, that'll help coping), and when you think you are ready for a fair shot, select roleplay - this game will surprise you again and again with sudden knowledge checks, which, if failed (and they will be the first time around), will evaluate into deaths "out of nowhere" mixing campaign and roguelike structure has consequences, as my "run" took me 60+ hours, so completing the game once in roleplaymode before going for "roguelike runs" with permadeath is advised overall, highly engaging and absolutely unique experience. on the negatives, storytelling is vague and throws too much non-cohesive stuff (early on, anyway, although it will make sense later), so i personally lost interest in dialog lines and lore sources fairly quickly (and generated sultan stories don't really help either, but maybe it will click for people with a sense of self-narration), opting into a story & lore explainer post game completion
wow, this game rocks. I had my initial hesitations due to being intimidated, but wow. I love it! Awesome world to explore, great skills, lots of builds to try, fun D&D style gameplay, the list goes on. Give it a go if you like any of what I mentioned.
it's like your childhood sketchbook game made into perfection
