Carrion is the only game I know that finally lets you stop playing as the boring, slow-moving space marine and lets you be the unstoppable, pulsating blob of teeth and tentacles from the horror movie. It’s essentially a "reverse-horror" game. Instead of running away from the monster, you are the monster. The movement is incredibly satisfying—slithering through air vents, stretching your biomass across ceilings and dragging scientists into the shadows is a absolute blast. There is a deeply primal, hilarious joy in scaring the living daylights out of NPCs, watching them scramble for the exits and then—well, turning them into a light snack to grow your size. The power fantasy is real. As you evolve, you get new abilities like web-shooting and mind-control, which make you feel like an absolute menace to anyone trying to contain you. The pixel art is top-tier and the way your amorphous body reacts to the environment—oozing around corners and fitting through tiny gaps—never gets old. It’s tight, it’s polished and it’s a brilliant way to spend a few hours being the ultimate nightmare fuel for a research facility.
Fun idea, fundamentals are great. Tearing apart civilians never stops being fun. Combat against threatening enemies is more frustrating than enjoyable, particularly given the lack of auto saves. Story is light touch.
Great spin on the genre, the monster feels nice to play, very fast and bloody. Sometimes the puzzles feel a little bit repetitive but the game knows when to stop before it gets boring. It works perfectly on the Deck, and honestly, they're a match made in heaven. Highly recommended.
Quel put4in de jeu monstreux! / What a f*cking monstruous game!
Very fun, love the artstyle and concept. Kinda short but a great experience.
Not enough content to justify the price. Gameplay is passable though simplistic, and it's easy to get lost in levels due to the lack of a map system and very minimum signage.
