Land battles are different: dishonest, ruthless and risky for you and those who you hold dear. Bring your companions with you, poison your weapons, study the terrain, craft deadly items, and confront thugs, soldiers, pirates, and rivals head-on.
Time to review
Okay I did take my sweet time for writing this review, and am I glad that i did. I have been playing Sea Dogs, Pirates of the Caribbean, Age of Pirates/Sails from probably the same devs who made all those games, for quite a long time. This game has come a long way IMHO. However, there's something I have to address as a veteran (not expert) of the game/series: our knowledge of how punishing the game can be at lower levels IF we are not careful or planning our adventure. I would suggest dump and bury that idea and take a leap of faith. I did and the result is this positive review. Go ahead and take the quests in your starter ship and have trust in yourself. You will be surprised how much the game has balanced out through the patches/updates. YES THERE IS ALWAYS SOME RANDOMNESS but that's where save scumming comes to rescue. Don't shy away from saving as many times as you feel is needed. I used to always start the trader route to get gold and get better and then take on the world. But by then a lot of the fun and thrill is gone. Only this time I didn't follow the usual route and did whatever I wanted to do - fight, board, plunder, backstab, do some smuggling etc. and it was so refreshing. One thing to add is I did take accountant role because it gives me leadership boost. I hope the devs balance this out so other roles dont fall too far behind in completing some of the challenging goals. I even completed lady Beth before reaching level 8. I was level 6 when I completed it, in hard difficulty, no less. It was disastrous, but isn't that the point??? that we feel we have achieved something when its done?? There are some magnificent guides in the guide section to give you a path to walk on and enjoy the game at its fullest. Try it and this game will blow your mind. By the way, this game STILL has many bugs so save scumming helps, as some of them are game breaking. Now I gotta go get rest of the achievements.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.71/day in the week to Jul 24 → 6.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The game seems to have a lot of potential but the control scheme is absolutely awful, it basically uses every key on the keyboard. The "playable" rating for Steam Deck is wildly inaccurate, I didn't even make it through the prologue without having to re-bind buttons multiple times. There simply aren't enough buttons on the deck to have everything mapped, even using input menus and such. I'm sure that playing on PC is a better experience but I still don't think I'd really enjoy memorizing that many inputs. The good news is that the devs still seem to be actively working on the game, they seem to have a major update coming out and hopefully they'll spend some time on the controls. Even something as simple as adding more on-screen buttons to make it viable to do more with the mouse/track pad would go a long way. I'll give it another try in a couple months and update this if it improves.
I'll probably be made fun of for being filtered out by the tutorial, but I don't care. Melee weapon combat is very clunky and feels unresponsive. Feinting attacks requires microsecond reaction time, so you're just sitting there getting your energy drained blocking endlessly and striking immediately after each block. That's just the 1v1 by the way. 2v1 seems impossible for someone who isn't a sweaty Souls player. I really tried.. jumping left and right, pulling away, but the incoming attacks are relentless, and the windows for striking back are microscopic. Not to mention, there are NO combat guides on YT, and I don't see any in the forums. The tutorial guy literally says "Try to feint and block more, and evade heavy attacks." as if it's that simple. The 30 out of the 40mins I spent ingame were just sparring the tutorial guy, to make sense of the controls, each fight being around 1-3 minutes. I'm not looking to stress this hard and read animations with single 1-2 frame accuracy. You'll do well if you are a Souls tweaker. This isn't for me.
I PUT THE COMBAT on the easiest setting it was still very hard i couldn't even finish the tutorial combat and putting parry and fast attack on the same key bad idea and there is very little direction at the start
An incredibly frustrating game. Just to name a few problems: confusing and inscrutable quest descriptions; quests are frequently broken or bugged; poor translation (english); bewildering balance; the sailing feels too simplistic; firing cannons feels terrible; ships feel sluggish; graphics are ugly; every town feels identical... Let me give you an example. A random questgiver came up to me and said, "escort me to the cave!" I said sure. That's what you do! Take quests! The game then restricted my movement to walking speed (because the guy I'm escorting is drunk), which is EXCRUCIATING, and gave no ability to opt out of the quest. I had no quest markers. I WALKED all around the jungle to get to the cave, which took forever. But the quest doesn't end. The dialogue with the guy says, "We aren't there yet, follow me," and no other option. I spent 10 minutes walking through every hallway of this ugly confusing cave. Nothing ever prompted the dialogue. I was trapped forever. Had to reload a previous save. There are so many stats that do ten different things, but you can't put points in them or invest them. The perk tree feels terrible. Exploring the world is annoying. As an example: The recommended start is with a French player. France is at war with Spain. Immediately, half the gameworld is hostile to you. Okay, that's fine. But the game repeatedly sends you to Spanish ports... or ports that you don't know are Spanish, because the game just says "deliver Cotton to Port X," and you have no way of knowing the nationality of Port X, so you go there and oh what do you know, it's Spanish. And five ships try to destroy you. So I guess I fail that mission. Firing the cannons is really the thing that drove me the most crazy. It feels like your cannons are constantly passing right through the enemy hull and dealing no damage. One of the things that got me to quit: I bought a bigger ship and loaded it up with the biggest cannons it could carry. I lined up my broadside against an enemy ship. At close range, I hit it solidly with six cannons. And it did virtually no damage. I'm talking, like, 3% of the enemy hull. At this point I just threw my hands up. What am I supposed to do? And when you DO run into trouble with bugs or figuring out where to go, you can't google it because the game's community isn't big enough. How do you change your sails, for example? I have no idea, because the game never tells you and I wasn't able to figure it out online. The main quest often puts you in situations that are virtually impossible. I finally quit when the main quest pitted me against a fleet of six ships, which would simply converge on me and destroy me. I couldn't even outrun them, because they were faster. On one attempt, I actually managed to board two of the six ships, but then the other four boarded me and killed all my men. You actually have to slow down the combat to .5 speed to effectively parry attacks. I didn't even mind the land combat. Yeah, it sucks, but it's tolerable. I can totally see other people hating it so much that it's a dealbreaker. The animations are awful. The parrying doesn't feel good. Just awful. It's a maddening experience. There's clearly the bones of a good game in here, but there's difference between charming/friction jank and "gamebreaking bug" jank. I kept going and going because I really thought that when the game opened up, it would blossom. But it just got more frustrating.
3. DLC.
The game starts out fine, but once your done with the beginning, everything kills you. Take a quest to escort somebody- Killed by ships at the destination Fight a duel for honor- Killed by getting shot in the face Travel around the map- Killed in an inescapable pirate ship fight. Try to do a side quest- Killed in an unwinnable fight with 10 enemys I know the game is supposed to be hard, but I spent two hours trying to find anything that didn't kill me, and there was none. I'm sure that there are people out there that are going to be, "Well actually... You just have to go here and do this, and then go over here and do this thing, and then hire this person .... and it's really not that bad", and they are entitled to their opinion, but you can't even learn anything, because everything is so convoluted and slow nothing really pops out as a learning experience. I quickly ran out of money, and food, and sailors, and everything else, and I still hadn't learned how to play the game. On top of all of this, at some point, my ship randomly stopped moving, except if I was in the map screen, so combat became impossible, short range travel became impossible, and everything just ended up feeling like the game was broken. When you have to ask yourself every time you do something in a game "Is this a glitch, or is my ship just not moving for a reason", or "Is this a glitch, or is every enemy's just a way higher level than me", or "Is this a glitch, or how do i find something that my character is capable of doing without dying", then the game isn't designed well. And I can guarantee you one thing, I'm not about to go through the 4 hour intro again to try a second time, when I feel like I learned absolutely nothing on my first attempt.
Осталось выпустить еще где-то 50 dlc и можно будет уже играть
So far the best Pirate/Sailing RPG i have played. I never knew about the Sea Dogs games in the past but after being cautious about getting this game after having read the reviews i can only recommend it now 60h in. BUT BE WARNED IT WILLL TAKE OVER YOUR LIFE! VERY ADDICTIVE! *Sails away*
