Game is just utterly boring. The Developer is trying to recreate the old games by Akella, the Sea Dogs games. Even if it means recreating the awful animations and behind the back camera of those games. For what reason? No idea. Bank on nostalgia maybe? - Game is very clunky. Even with a 5070ti game has horrible framerates unless you turn off grass shadows and volumetric fog. - After 10+ hours, still an awful game and it got worse. Be prepared for game breaking bugs, bugs that block you out of content (such as Freighter deliveries not being accepted no matter what you do, and then being locked out of all future ones). - Awful ship combat. Even City of Lost Ships had this right allowing for an on-the-deck perspective that made it easy to quickly switch broadsides. This game doesn't allow for a 1st person view, instead, targeting an enemy ship is a clunky disconnected affair (turn the view at the ship, right click to zoom in, shoot). Modern games have made this process a lot smoother. The Developer seems to be adamant about reinventing the wheel for no reason other than hubris. - Utterly boring 'fetch' quests that are uninspiring and a complete slog fast. The Developer needs to give up on the RPG nonsense. The story is just not interesting and the use of the worst type of AI for the narration makes it worse. They use that same AI voice you hear in the Cialis/Viagra commercials. - Game is about Pirates, Ships, Shooting, Combat. Knock it off with the boring story and RPG. The Story gets in the way of the ship and combat parts, hindering it and blocking off progression or auto-progressing you. - AI, I'm no AI purist. As an artist myself AI has its use. But the use of stock AI voices commonly heard on YouTube and other online platforms is absolutely garish and out of place. If the dev needs a free voice actor, just grab one of us. At the Developer Disconnect the Story from the ship and character progression. Let the player buy new ships, level up, and so on separate from the awful slow story. Nobody finds it interesting and you're not a good RPG developer it's not your forte.
One thing I’m still missing is female characters. I’d really like to see more interactions and social mechanics involving women in the game world, such as brothels or similar locations that fit the historical setting. Games like GTA included optional side activities like this, and I think having more mature role-playing mechanics would make the world feel more alive and believable. Right now, the world feels a bit too focused on male characters, and I’d love to see more variety in future updates. Overall, though, I think the game is fantastic and I’m really enjoying it.
I’ve never played Sea Dogs before, so everything feels new to me. The project seems to be progressing quite slowly, and each update adds only a small piece at a time—but it is moving forward, and that’s what matters. I'm really looking forward to features like capturing forts, taking over colonies, larger-scale naval battles, and a wider variety of ships. Until then, I'll happily keep sailing my brig across the Caribbean and becoming a terror of the local waters.
I feel that the jungle areas could offer much more. It would be great to have dynamic events similar to those found in open-world games—ambushes, injured travelers, wild animals, or other unexpected encounters instead of only regular bandits. Hunting wildlife could also be an interesting addition. Overall, though, the game does an excellent job of immersing me in the Caribbean. It really captures the feeling of being there. Even after a long and exhausting day, loading the game and finding myself on the Caribbean coast is genuinely relaxing. That's something I appreciate a lot
Looking forward to the full release.
