I really liked this game, but I do have one little complaint. The map. It sort of reveals itself room by room, just as soon as you enter one, not progressively like other metroidvanias, so it's really hard to keep track of unexplored areas that might be in that room and that you can't access right away, which makes it really difficult to find all the collectibles unless you painstakingly go through the entire map after finishing the game, which honestly I was too lazy to do. The "shortcuts" from one area to the next are just not enough. Other than that, sure, the game is fun, but this little flaw makes it also kind of frustrating.

Carestia is a Metroidvania-lite puzzle platformer that'll have you blasting all sorts of bizarre creatures in order to obtain all of Earth's energy crystals. The game has pieces/parts of the metroidvania system i.e. collecting an upgrade to progress through a certain area or over an obstacle but cannot be truly considered a full metroidvania as this system is far and few between. It is mostly a puzzle platformer where you have to collect pieces such as mirrors, generators, and lamps to puzzle together in order to open doors or progress through a section. The art style is charming and the music is quite good. Games with this price point in this genre that are good are far and few between. I highly recommend picking this up as it will scratch that retro itch you may have and it's a fun way to kill some time.

Однако если поиграть в нее пару часов невольно начинаешь осознавать, что в игру оказывается что-то да положили: 1)Здесь есть скилы и даже инвентарь; 2) Карта тоже есть ибо без нее можно, довольно много бегать; 3) Головоломки же одни будут просты другие сведут вас с ума; 4) Боссы пока про них говорить рано, но первый оказался тем еще сосунком :) В целом это первая работа этой студии заслуживает оценки 3/5, конечно я еще поиграю и может дополню свой обзор. а пока если будете брать игру знайте, что вас ждет переменчивое ощущение радости, злости и недоумевания. Играю начиная с бета-версии, затянуло. Поначалу казалось, что обычный проходной проект, но чем дальше заходила, тем больше ощущала, что эта игра как будто из 90-х: хорошее управление, проработанные уровни, в ориентировании нет проблем, а на случай таковых имеется карта, это очень добротная метроидвания, рекомендуемая к прохождению. Тут весело и дробяще, особенно топово, наверное, с джойстиком играть. Графика на первый взгляд кажется простенькой, но быстро привыкаешь, мне очень нравятся предметы коллекционирования, и кастомизация позволяет настроить персонажа под себя. Игру стоит проходить ради хардкорных моментов, тут не везде и не всегда будет легко, но головоломки неплохо разбавляют моменты битв. Прохождение уровней после получения новых скилов и охота на коллектаблы оживляет уже знакомые места. С обновлениями игра стала ещё веселее и приятнее. To all metroidvania lovers - this game is worth playing as it gives a real nostalgia feel of 90's. You'll find here hardcore battles and levels, but you'll be able to enjoy the leisurely puzzles to have a rest after tense collectibles' search.
