Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me!
Here you can see my Gameplay : https://youtu.be/3FPjIittPZU Captain ToonHead vs the Punks from Outer Space is a Humoristic Tower Defense VR game. You are the janitor of your ship, you discover all the crew die so you have to complish the mission from some general from earth but seems at the end we skip the mission for save this cute cubes. The game has a lot of humour with interesting characters but the game is focused as an tower defense game where you can use 2 type of weapons some ultraskills and 4 type of turrets, I wish they delay the release for adding more towers and weapons but well the game it's cool as it's already. As enemies I see a lot more content there are more enemy types than turrets with diferents upgrades like armors or shields. The gameplay is solid and fun with diferent upgrades on towers and weapons, arround 6-7 hours for complete it fully.
I was sent the game to try the new survival Mode. I will later update this review on the campaign part of the game. Currently I really enjoyed the Survival mode and you learn what each creatures abilities are along with what is the best way to take them out. NOTE: In survival mode I was first stumped how to change sectors. Apparently it wasnt any buttons on your physical remote but on your digital remote/glove. On your digital wrist put the other hand over to press the button to switch sectors or get sent to the main screen to select it. I will definitely play this some more But I warn you one more time turns into many without you realizing it. ;-). Only got to the end of sector 2 so when i try more i will be able to see whats at the end or if there is an end.
I'm not a tower defense guy but the fact that you're basically there first person in the action makes it so fun, that plus the fact that there is always something going on that require your attention and participation since the towers themselves can't do it by their own make it so you're always on your toes and attending to everything that could happen
I got this game in a bundle and wasn't really expecting much going in, but wow! This game is a lot of fun. Tower Defense in VR but you can also help out by shooting your own weapons, using your own abilities, and even taking control of your turrets. It's awesome. The movement is pretty clunky but if you can look past that you're going to have a great time.
I'm a sucker for a good tower defense game that allows you to plan and strategize but also throws a wrinkle in here and there to keep you on your toes. As we all know, no plan survives first contact, and whether it responding to healing bots or force fields or armored units, you have to be on the lookout and respond quickly. I'm reminded of Orcs Must Die with the cheesy humor and frantic, in your face action. There's a little more structure here to make it work well in VR (ex. you move by jumping between towers), and the controls are not difficult to learn and feel good once you have them down (I'm playing on an Valve Index). You can also jump above each tower to get a bird's eye view which is handy when responding to new threats.
This game is super addictive, challenging, silly, and so much fun. You can tell that the developers put a lot of "heart" into this. IMO this is one of the best VR tower defense games available. I had been hoping for a VR version of Plants vs Zombies for years ( Love that game), realized that that it probably isn't going to happen, and found Captain ToonHead as a recommendation on a VR gaming site. I'm so glad that I did. It's one of my favorite VR games overall. ( Defense Grid 2 VR is a favorite too.) I hope that the developers continue to update it.
Overall, I did enjoy this game. I feel like the game is a bit overambitious in what they try to accomplish as a tower defense game. The controls get in the way a bit with overcomplication which led to some frustrating moments in game play on the more advanced levels when you need immediate response times. The pacing gets pretty frenetic in the later stages. I streamed this game and it didn't do particularly well just because of the level of hyperfocus it took to manage defense. Great game for pulling you into the moment, but also terrible for being able to look away and engage with chat. Graphically, the game has a neat style to it that I feel fits the motif/vibe of the game. It feels a bit like they played it a bit too safe going with more generic character designs on both the hero and villain side. The animation style isn't anything dazzling either, but it doesn't drag the game down. The initial playthrough was fine, and offerst a decent amount of material. The game does lack in replay interest though. I mostly got 100% clear on each map, 1st or 2nd try. If you're -really- into tower defense style games then you might have fun digging in on this one. Personal recommondation is to wait for it to go on sale, snag it and try it.

I never knew this game existed until I decided to search for Tower Defense games on Steam. It's a shame I didn't discover it sooner. Too many VR games feel like half-baked demos. This feels like a nice, full, finished game, and it's really fun to play. Some things are a little grating, like the humour and the fact that the main turret makes fireworks noises when it fires, but it's a very fun experience. Recommened!
