Cally's Trials is a roguelike action-platformer with a weapon-levelling system that lets you evolve weapons as you use them. Cally must save her parents from the maniacal Herbert, who has laid waste to the Caves and built a massive new base.

6/10
Slightly Recommended. 6/10* ok, this game is ok, decent-good, at first i really liked it, good looking pixel art, nice gameplay, lot of weapons and upgrades, the game mechanics were ok, it has some minor issues like the camera following you instantly when jumping (i think this could cause nausea to some), but what really made me uninstall it was all the grinding, normally when playing 2d platformers or side scrolling games, i just go along and beat the game, but with this one im going one try, getting coins, dying, then buying upgrades, then trying again, then dying and over and over again, maybe its not because bad game design and its just me who sucks at the game, but got bored of doing the same levels again and again. still im not giving a negative review cause i really liked it when i liked it, is just that i stopped doing so.
FR/EN Cally's Trials
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3700982048
---FR---
Cally's Trials is a good 2D roguelike. The premise is simple: you have to rescue your parents, who have been captured by Herbert. To achieve your goal and help Cally on her adventure, the game gradually provides you with new weapons and powers. You progress, you die, and you start again. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2904292850
---FR---
As you do this, you gain experience for your character as well as for each weapon you use, which becomes increasingly powerful. The game is fast-paced, and it's enjoyable to follow this adventure and gain power to progress. The 2D graphics are well done, and the music brilliantly complements the on-screen action. Ultimately, the game is addictive and makes you want to replay the adventure once you've finished it. In terms of playtime, you'll need more than 10 hours if you want to fully upgrade all the weapons and complete all the achievements.
Very fun - I like it! Some small criticisms: - You can fire most weapons at pretty much any speed depending on how fast you mash the fire button. It's effective but... I feel like the maximum fire rate of a weapon should have been the one achieved when you hold the button down. - There might be a small bug with the jumping that means that sometimes it registers you as being in the air when you're not, meaning that you only end up with 1 mid-air jump instead of 2. For the most part it's not a big problem until you reach the very final levels where one less jump kills you >.< It's hard to tell if it's a real bug or if it's just to do with very careful timing of jumps. - Roguelikes like this tend to require a fair bit of time per session. I never like that feeling that once I start a game, I might be committed to this "run" for some time! But... that's a subjective problem really. Overall though despite these fairly small problems it's a simple but very enjoyable game that I would recommend ^^
This is an enjoyable little platformer, but it doesn't necessarily grab onto you and bring back fond memories ten years from now. It's not Super Mario or Contra where you will want to go back every decade and do it again, but it doesn't feel like a waste of time to play. There is no engrossing story, but there is a sense of accomplishment when you get past a part you may have been struggling with. There is a lot of grind so that can be a detriment for some, but they do keep adding new weapons for you to try and utilize to make the game more interesting. There are a few games in the series so I would say if you enjoyed the grind in one you will enjoy it again in this and if you didn't then pass.
Here I am... Sitting with my right hand completely numb after 5 hours in this game. I'm not going to recommend this game for two reasons: 1. Please remove "ROGUELIKE" from game description. There is not a single aspect in this game where that term could be applied. 2. Grinding. Mindless grinding. Here's the thing: in this game (and all other "Cally's" games as well) you levelup guns by damaging enemies. Not killing, damaging. And how would I say it - it has no point. You can level-up any weapon by going back and forth between two rooms and killing a single respawning enemy. The game would benefit if there were conditions for level-ups, like - "Kill 10/25/50 Spiders with Flamethrower to level-up" or "Kill 10 flying enemies", something like that. Otherwise it's way too repetitive and frustrating. But maybe some people find it fun. All I got was ache in my fingers and frustration from 5 hours of grinding. Cheers!
A short, fairly enjoyable action-platformer with run-n-gun-esque vibes; a title worth consideration when it goes on sale. The game describes itself as a roguelike, but there is nothing roguelike about it. Dungeons are not procedurally generated; enemy and loot placements are always the same, even when you die and have to restart the run. Simple platforming mechanics, nothing too difficult; a stronger focus on the shooting aspect. You collect a wide variety of weapons as you progress through the levels; each weapon feels unique and can be leveled with regular use to improve its stats and its functionality. The weapons feel balanced, with nothing feeling like its too overpowering without any drawbacks of using, but the game does not utilise its arsenal well; you can easily complete the entire game with just using 1-2 weapons, outside of the few others needed to solve puzzles. In terms of gameplay itself, it is fairly good, smooth controls, and the music complements the flow of combat as well. It does get a little grindy, needing to farm coins and weapon experience, but not obnoxious and the predictable nature of dungeons also somewhat mitigate random grind. Overall, it does feel a little repetitive, especially nearing the end. The combat with its accompanying music is enjoyable, albeit bland if you're just using one weapon for everything.
i enjoyed it , i loved the weapons , fun level up weapon function , i would recommend to anyone looking for something new
the dialogue is excruciatingly painful and the gameplay is lackluster and boring
