Cally's Trials is a 2d button-mashing shoot-em-up (Not rogue-like whatsoever). Beat it in 6ish hours using a game controller. Difficulty is easy to moderate. - It's been said, but this game is like the weird, stinky little bro to Cally's Caves 3. CC3 is by and far the better game with all the same bosses, better plot stuff, better graphics, collectibles, etc. Get the feeling Cally's Trails was a predecessor to the Cally's Caves series and 3 happened to be the remake of it. - The object of the game is to run through levels and spam-shoot monsters to death to fight the bosses. You're given a bunch of diff guns to find and level up, and some guns unlock areas throughout that will likely make traversing levels easier, give you more treasure, and find more guns. There's no timing or clock involved, so you can take your sweet time jobbing the bestiary to kingdom come. If you're playing this only to level the guns, and hate the game because you're farming monsters between two rooms, what are you doing? That's not how you game. That's not how you game at all. - The music is pretty awesome no matter what Cally's game I play. - Unfortunately, this specific Cally's game has a few bugs. The edges of bricks cause no end of grief. Sometimes Cally would get stuck in them. I had a huge problem with the double jump feature because jumping too close to a ledge somehow cancels out the second of the two jumps. It was so bad I rage quit and almost gave this game an uglier review. Once the 'don't jump at the very edge' problem was mastered, it no longer got in the way of game play. During the credits, I went to the menu and it silenced all music for the main game. Nothing I did brought the music back. And I'm sure there are other bugs waiting to be explored. *** Epilepsy warning - Avoid this one if you're photosensitive. Shooting the guns and hitting beasties causes a massive strobing load of unfriendly blinking. The same goes for Cally's Caves 3 (and likely other games in the series). (Edit - Cally's Caves 4 has a no-blink option in the menu that makes it so much better). In the end, outside of a few weird bugs this 2d shoot-em-up plays alright and if it was an Indy game all by itself it'd be fine. But with the other games in the series looming as a shadow of awesomeness in the background, Cally's Trials is the weak cub out of the litter. If you love supporting what the developers do, it wont hurt to get it. If you're looking where to start in all the Cally's games, it's not a bad place to start here, but be prepared for a sense of deja vu when you get to 3. If you're already played 1-4 and are looking for something new, you'll be wasting your money.
Follow our Curator Group for more reviews
Cally’s Trials is an action platformer that is pretty rough around the edges, but winds up being a decent game. It features a weapon upgrade system similar to the one in the Ratchet & Clank franchise. This creates a weird issue where you want to upgrade every weapon, but once you max it out and it becomes powerful, you move on to a terrible gun in order to upgrade it. It causes you to have a bunch of great weapons you don’t use and a bunch of garbage that you do use. The game also has a problem that largely stems from its lack of difficulty. It’s an excessively long game, while also being too easy. The primary cause of death in the game is falling onto spikes or into water, because it is an instant death. Every bit of combat in the game, after your first 4-5 runs, is almost guaranteed to be extremely easy, oftentimes boring. Enemies have large amounts of health and garbage AI, resulting in you standing still and shooting someone from a ledge. This gets exacerbated by the upgrades you can buy, which result in making you far too powerful after only a few deaths. The game also has more levels than it needs, as it takes way too long to get through a chapter, especially for a rougelike, which generally requires multiple deaths to even be beatable. Still, there is something very satisfying about this game as you progress. The enemy AI is still pretty bad for the later enemies, but they do tend to get more powerful and at times can challenge you, provided you aren’t overpowered yet. When it comes to buying upgrades, most of them are awkwardly designed and feel thrown together. Some last only for 1 run, some just upgrade how much money you make, forcing you to prioritize them because progression is 10 times slower without them. If this game had a smoother power curve, it would be a much more fun game. Unfortunately, Cally’s Trials has too many underwhelming moments to be considered great. It still has more positives than negatives, thanks primarily to the mid-game peak that balances pretty well between too easy and too hard. It’s worth a shot for fans of action platformers, just know that it won’t blow you away. 6/10
Visit our website for more in-depth reviews and recommendations
This game is seriously fun! As in... Relaxing fun! Sure there are some platforming stuff and enemies throwing things at you... but... I had been looking for a game that didn't make me suffer so much to just pass a single level and here it was all along! You get a bunch of weapons, starting with two and then the rest are found in other biomes. There are six biomes with a boss in each one. Weapons can be maxed out at level 10, but they change form + upgrade at level 4 and 7. I did all of them. Because that's how fun they were! No favorites... But I did like when you use the frost weapon on a bat... Ahaha. XD Also..... The laser gun can shoot through ANYTHING! No obstruction can stop it! I am surprised the environment didn't get destroyed... o.o Oh and the music... The music is epic. I like it and sometimes you just sit there and listen to it, because that's how GREAT sounding it is. Right, this is rogue-kinda game and you DO get upgrades. Just don't buy "level up" if you are level 20 (MAX)... You level to 21 and then level down hah... The sword dash ability? If you use Rocket Launcher and it meets certain conditions... You throw out BOMB CLOUDS/EXPLOSIONS instead of the blue moon wave. :D There is also a challenge at the end too... For those who want to keep going... But you can't teleport to the end so... Keep that in mind. That BEAR is adorable!!! Love the game! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :3 =) :D
If you want to complete your Cally's Cave Collection... get it. Otherwise prepare to deal with the downgraded version of Cally's Caves 3.
This is one of a series of 2D retro pixel platformers where you guide a young girl with a sword and a gun through various hazardous monster filled platformer levels. Kill the monsters and solve the platforming challenges to progress through the game. There are other games in the series that are much better than this. Fixed resolution, ugly pixel graphics, this is just one of literally thousands of retro platformers on Steam. It doesn't shine in any particular way, yet the developers are not only charging $10, they also have a $13 Deluxe Edition. That's like a luxury edition Ford Pinto. Anyway, you can buy real games for $10 so buy one of those instead of this shovelware.
chinese plz. 游戏过得去,没中文可玩,鼓励性好评了。fanatical,humble,杉果,支付宝红包,本平台,本平台掉卡零钱,淘宝,它处自定义包入的本体约3元。目前就这,看以后追评。
Not too difficult, had fun. Kinda wish the achievements had more variety but not a big deal.

A few glitches, but still a great game. I've become a fan of the Cally's Caves series, and this installment, the second in the series, is a great improvement over its predecessor. It's a great intro to the series, but Cally's Caves 3 is definitely the best in the series (better than CC 4, in my opinion). If you want to train for either of the sequels, get this one.
