So I got this because I wanted their original game called civilization call to power but couldn't find it, was hoping this was just a improvement on it. While this is very similar for the first 2/3 of game with some improvements they also removed the whole space layer and various teck levels of space ships. I was sadly disappointed because that was the coolest thing. Activation why did you remove the best part of your game series the thing that made it way more fun then the sid meiers civ series of games?!?! Your other game was truly a unique experience starting in ancient times and working up to space battleships and cloaking ships, the space layer added a whole new level to the world, made the space race more then just a achievement but actual game play. If you wanna re-release that game or add the space stuff back into this game, ill play it. As of now I am uninstalling this sadly. Considering the videos don't play, the screen resolution settings mostly don't work for big monitors I was already putting up with a lot only to play through a game and reach the end of the tech tree and find a good chunk missing from your first attempt at this game.
I'm giving it a no because it flat out doesn't work in W10. But you can fix it with a mod. Search for "Call To Power 2 SDL2 Port for Modern Windows" > download windows version 1. Overwrite the ctp2_data into the Steam ctp2_data folder 2. Copy the files from 64bit folder into ctp2_program/ctp and overwrite files The game will work in Linux via proton if you install the windows SDL port.

I played CTP1 years ago, and for many, many hours. It was great; it was essentially Civilization (it was even in the name!) with a bunch of mechanics being tweaked. Unfortunately, that game is not on Steam. I'm guessing due to licensing issues. This game is pretty much a demake or an "un-expansion" of the original CTP. A bunch of features are scrapped...late game is much more like the OG Civ games than they are CTP1 (no 3000 AD late game). You can't actually control what tiles your cities 'work' in the management screen; only tell the AI to concentrate on a certain resource (food, production, etc.). The graphics are pretty much the exact same, but some of the units have changed appearances. I don't really get why this game was even made. It did nothing to improve on CTP1 but did several things to make it an inferior product.
I used to play this game a lot when I was a kid. I was fascinated by how you could grow your civilization even beyond today's technology. I was always aiming for that defensive dome on your cities and I thought it was really cool. It was a really good game in my memories, and it should have stayed that way. This game on steam is a shameless trap for people like me who seek that nostalgia. The game is currently unplayable and can hardly be described even as a game. The music won't play and the options menu won't save your selections and you will need to go over them each time you run the game. I have an ultra wide screen and whenever I progress for some time and discover some of the map, the game would just freeze each and every second, making the game unplayable. Did I mention there is no music?! It is stupid how people can expect someone to buy this crap and be content. And if you wanna feel nostalgic, just go watch some old gameplay videos on youtube. Trust me, you will feel a lot better.
what a waste of money, I will echo anyone else when they say they cant get this game working at all, all it does for me is loads up on the start screen, blacks out and crashes the game is clearly not being " developed by activision " any longer it isn't well up to scratch nor being kept updated, this nostalgic game from 2000s was a was awesome in its time now its been ruined, there are more outdated games that are playable on steam which I find amazing.
I loved this game when it came out. This is dated and crashes often. We need a solid Call to Power update like Civ 6.
This game does not work on Win10/Win11 systems without extensive legacy component modification.
I cannot understand why Steam sell video games that it doesn't work. I feel totally disappointed and cheated of course. From now on I won't buy any game here. It's not for the loss of money it's because of the frustration I feel as a client.
