UNDERRATED PEAK
I do not recommend this game if you are looking for an FPS that involves a decent story and decent characters. Don't get me wrong, the basis of the game is definitely there, and I really do enjoy the scifi-esque theme going on. The problem lies with how lackluster the campaign was for me. The story was also all over the place, and the motives and background for each faction were not explained very well. The side missions were fun at first, especially the jackal missions. Though, this quickly became stale. It falls short in mission variety, unlike in earlier titles. Jackal launches -> invade hostile ship -> Return to Retribution Jackal launches -> Bombard & Destroy hostile ships -> Return to Retribution Aside from the gameplay, I found that the characters lack any depth. Especially the Protagonist, Reyes, who was just the cliche, "perfect" soldier. The villain, whatever his name is, was also just this cliche, "evil" guy. Ironically enough, the most human-like character was the robot, Ethan. He was the most interesting part of this campaign for me. Many of the interactions also felt very forced. The game tried to push out drama with the death of meager characters, but some of them are not even worthwhile, hence why they are not memorable. The only part I was actually sad about was Ethan sacrificing himself. Reyes's sacrifice was also a bit sad, but it was a bit anti-climactic. On that note, the only reason I gave this game a chance was because it was on sale for $20.
