not the best cod campaign i've ever played but i would definitely place it above every game that came out after bo3. plot was interesting, set pieces were cool (even if most of them felt like they were recycled from games that came before), and most of the characters made me actually care about them. i played through the entire thing on veteran in one sitting (a little less than 6 hours) and would say my only gripes were how tanky some of the enemies felt compared to previous games, although they are not nearly as tanky as the armored enemies in newer cods it definitely felt like it took a lot more bullets to take them down if i wasn't prioritizing headshots. another gripe was the overuse of the "gimmicky gameplay", while some of it was a nice change of pace, playing close to 20 minutes of the water level made me lose a small bit of sanity. i enjoyed the "ac-130" parts as instead of full missions you got to go back and forth between the guys on the ground and the a-10 or osprey to actually see the effects of your carnage which made it all the more rewarding. tldr: i know most of the hate isn't directed towards the campaign but i would say it's better than everything steal-your-money-tivivsion has made in the last 6 years. overall i would give this campaign a 6.8/10 the weapon sandbox was lacking and the shotguns felt unusable but the story and set pieces definitely gave it a leg up. p.s. THE RILEY CARRY SECTION IS ONE OF THE WORST COMBAT ARENAS EVER DESIGNED WITH ONE OF THE MOST ANNOYING OBJECTIVES EVER, but it was still better than all modern cod campaigns
It's a shame, because I think the story has a lot going on for it, but, yet again for this franchise, I can't recommend this Call of Duty game. Why? It insists upon itself. Yeah, yeah, queue Family Guy meme, but honestly...from minute one it's setting up these titular ghosts to be the baddest of the bad but we never really see that. Sure, we see the usual CoD forced man-butt staring sessions, you know what I mean...where our 10-year veteran soldier CANNOT advance until this totally sweet, awesome, cool, bad as heck, heckin' rad, original the character do not steal finishes their canned animation of going through a door frame. Like...CoD...come on, bro... I want to like Riley, the dog, but he gets the same treatment, where we NEED to use this dog instead of...you know...the guns for protracted moments...in this shooter game? No, no, I need to stare at dog scrote until the game says I can go back to doing what I want...Jesus, guys... I'd really love the irregular warfare scenario if the game lived up to its promises, but...like mission three and we have a remote control sniper turret that allows our four men plus dog to solo an enemy base that has air and vehicle support. We have drone warthog planes to strafe this beach that, mere missions ago was defended by U.S. Navy warships and now...just isn't...cuz reasons... The entire setup, like...are nukes not a thing? The ENTIRE world would have something to say about the U.S. sticking a weaponized satellite into orbit, but wait I guess not, nevermind. Even if the Federation did what it did and somehow, someway, smuggle a commando team onto a shuttle, not an easy feat I promise and I'm not even a member of NASA or the Space Force...why didn't we nuke the Federation after the attack? Heck, screw nukes...this is the U.S. of A! Ask for a donation from all of the gun nuts and we'd probably have enough ordnance to level every South American capital then and there...what is this story? I...really want to like this...but it's just so riddled with the usual CoD-cancer. I just want to play a shooter game but at nearly every turn the game has to yank me out of any immersion and force set pieces and spectacle down my throat, because it's too cowardly to trust that I'll like the shooting. Multiplayer? It's the same thing you know and...mmmhmm...from every other installment. Zombies...er...I mean extinction, the legally distinct replacement which, yeah, it's cool, I guess or was. But as I've gone back through these...why couldn't we just trust that I want to fight a war...with guns...as a soldier? LIke, is the concept more challenging than I understand it or something? Because...we had this down, or so I thought. It used to be called like half of the shooters in existence, yet, here we are, so desperate for something, anything, to differentiate one game from, not even its competitor franchises, but other installments in the SAME effin' franchise, that we've forgotten the whole...SHOOTER part of the first person shooter genre. Is it the worst thing ever? Of course not, but looking back with a critical eye, I'm really seeing the malignancy inherent to the Call of Duty franchise, even as I pine for the "good old days" when I'd play this with my friends. I'm mature enough to respect that, yeah, nostalgia doesn't equal quality, so what do I have left to look forward to? In CoD Ghosts...it's just ogling man booty and dog booty in between set piece moments. Nah, not for me and probably not for you either. Skip it.
Super underrated AND overhated cod game. It pretty much feels like mw2019 if it was made with passion. No SBMM, no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Wish more people gave it another chance <3
