It's good, with a few differences it could have been great. Overall a good experience. The atmosphere the game has throughout is really tense and weird. It's surprisingly similar in gameplay to a Life is Strange title. It does a better job than most of those games at making your decisions matter but still falls short on that front in my opinion. I would have liked your character to not be the main character of the plot that was taking place and instead trying to help or push NPCs into doing or not doing things. I feel like that would have been more interesting. Either way a very good story but just off a bit on the gameplay front. Still worth buying for the weirdness and the story! I love Lovecraft stuff.
This game needed more reasons for Cat to get involved she's easily the most interesting character and really has nothing to do with anything, even with a sort of mini quest attached to her it didn't seem to actually achieve anything? There are 2 endings I haven't seen so maybe I'm wrong but the game isn't really important enough to me to replay.
It's a fine game. The horror is there if you buy into the world, but unfortunately, there are some immersion breaking parts which did sour my first experience with this game. The stealth sections are probably the worst parts of the game. The skill leveling carried over from the ttrpg isn't implemented amazingly and is largely meaningless for story and gameplay. The combat section near the end feels out of place, and the last chapter is a bit of a slog. The animation isn't the greatest; the lip syncing and hand animations are a bit wonky. 3/5 overall.
Even though at the end the game basically falls apart for me, especially plot-wise, I still recommend it to Lovecraft lovers. It has an incredible atmosphere, very much on point. It's pulpy, gritty, absurd at times. Despited the story failing to grasp me until the end, and most characters being... unengaging at best, I still think this was a great eight hours to spend with a game.
Für Cthulhu Fans ein gelungenes Spiel
i really enjoyed this game from start to finish. the atmosphere is easily one of its strongest points. everything feels gloomy, unsettling, and mysterious in a way that constantly kept me interested. the aesthetic fits the story perfectly, and i always wanted to see what was waiting around the next corner. the gameplay felt well balanced to me. it wasn't frustratingly difficult, but it also wasn't so easy that it became boring. it kept me engaged the whole way through without ever feeling unfair. this was only the second horror game i've ever finished, and i enjoyed every second of it. if you're looking for a horror game that's more focused on atmosphere, mystery, and storytelling than constant jump scares, i'd definitely recommend giving this one a try.
