Amaze, amaze, amaze
This is a fabulous little indie-platformer, filled with 8-bit nostalgia. Like a super-meat boy lite. Fun to dip into and comes with a side plate of bitesize speedrunning.
Electric sparks race Tiny circuits learn to jump Chaos runs precise
Very strong precision platformer with a small, generally tight scope, and a name that likely doomed it to obscurity. Bzzzt isn't easy to discover, remember, or recommend on name alone, which is a massive shame given how well it executes its core ideas. The game is built around compact, room-based challenges, with a simple moveset primarily consisting of a double jump and dash. It's explicitly level-based and very clearly designed with speed running in mind. You can jump back into any level at any time to perfect your run - finishing under par with every collectable - and this is by far the most satisfying way to experience the game. Completing a perfect run of a challenging level really hits. The game also has surprisingly strong presentation. The soundtrack hits exactly the right tone - upbeat without being distracting - and its visual design is both pleasing and cohesive. It's incredibly polished, above and beyond what I'd expect of such an unknown game, to the point that it genuinely feels worth calling out. While the levels are generally all pretty good, there are some mild stinkers that require you to beat a boss or a certain number of enemies to progress. Some of these can be partially bypassed through secret routes hidden in the levels, but they're a bit irritating on a first playthrough when you might not know this. They were probably some of the most frustrating stages to perfect clear. The game’s short length means the few middling stages linger more than they otherwise would, and the story is slightly too intrusive for a game that seems largely uninterested in developing a narrative beyond the bare minimum, but Bzzzt is still pretty great. It's a short and sweet precision platformer that doesn't necessarily perfect any part of the formula but executes most of it very well. It deserves far more attention than it's unfortunate title has likely allowed. ★★★★
Really well polished platformer that can be challenging but a joy to play throughout. I didn't unlock everything or go for the 100 %, because sometimes the frustration of losing got the best of me, but still, not extremely hard. Upgrades and skills are nicely put as you progress, giving some diversity while the soundtrack is good to listen to. I do feel like i will go back to the game and for that i recommend this game.
If you're into platformers, you'll very likely love BZZZT. The simple mechanics offered are ones many platformer veterans have in some form encountered before, but coupled with the steller level design, it makes for a very fun time. What hit home for me though was the replayability. BZZZT is a bit short, but I personally found the timed challenges on every level incredibly addicting. I was even recently inspired to come back to the game to give an insane mode difficulty playthrough a go.
Fantastic game with a great soundtrack and crisp controls. Great platformer!
A solid, really well polished platformer. My only (minor) gripe is that the hitboxes could be slightly more forgiving.
