This is an unique 2D platformer, at least in my opinion, the point of the game is your this round little guy/ball or whatever you call it and use your mouse to controll it to move the way you want it, but cause people is not used to 2d platformers where you gotta use your mouse tthe easyer tasks easly become hard, the game has so far ive gotten a very nice diffeculty spike where it starts easy and slowly progress and become harder and harder, and yea it's the type of game called rage game which means if your a guy thateasyly rages cause you die, this will mostly be a play once in a while kind of game, easy to play some levels and than take a break cause it gets hard. cause how hard it is it's an very intresting game to speedrun, cause how the game is built
I won't hesitate to call MineRalph my singular most favorite indie gem in the rough. When I first began playing through this game last year, I had a hard time adjusting myself to the unique control scheme of boosting in the direction opposite to where your mouse cursor is located. But through all the confusion and frustration of learning these mechanics layered on top of constantly changing gimmicks, I never once felt like I wasn't having fun with this game. Even when it felt like there was more to be desired from the game, the developers would wholeheartedly take any and all feedback/suggestions into account. Now, I feel like this game is at a level where I can recommend it to anyone looking for something different. It's certainly not the most perfect game in terms of visual style, but if you're willing to spend enough time, you will succumb to the addictive nature of the gameplay.
Deep underground lies a robotic army that is progressively entering onto your tuff. The final straw is broken when the robotic leader steals away your loving blue rock. Taking on the role of a bright pink boulder, you set out to rescue her by overcoming brutally difficult physics-based platforming stages and a few bosses. This title isn’t your standard platformer since the entire game is controlled by only using the mouse. You move your cursor behind your character and click to propel him in any direction. The only other movement option that later becomes available is a lighting strike, which can either be used to turn on or off various gravity manipulating devices and to instantly teleport to blue crystals. That’s it - just two buttons which creates an elegant and dangerously addictive gameplay loop. With these limited tools at your disposal and the force of gravity, you must train your muscle memory, react swiftly, and be prepared to push the limits of what you thought was possible in-game. The first two or three stages in a world are basic, with the intent of teaching naturally through gameplay. This then lays the groundwork for the more complex and challenging stages to shine. Not only do these later stages demand good-play, which will require you to master your mouse maneuvering abilities. But they involve critical thinking and reflection in order to plot out how you should maneuver and attempting to comprehend the laws of physics as they are turned on their head. When you do finally manage to obtain the needed muscle memory reflexes and comprehend the in-game physics a bit better to overcome these creatively fascinating late-game stages it is invigorating. What I like the most about MineRalph is its uncompromised vision. There are no difficulty options, there are no cutscenes, and there is no unnecessary aesthetic flair to distract. The focus is purely on excellent gameplay which it nails with its near-perfect controls and incredible level design that even continues to push player’s limits till the very end. Some of the later stages I specifically remember looking at and thinking to myself “This can not be the correct way to go” or “I don’t think this is possible” until fifty or sometimes even five hundred attempts later finding out it is totally doable and really not that bad. Now, repeating a level this many times does seem like a turn-off but the instant response times and agile controls create a natural gameplay flow which makes it hard to leave the computer and for me suddenly finding out it is 1 a.m. in the morning. My biggest complaint would be the bareness of the visuals and sound effects. It definitely seems to be an initially minimalistic approach to allow gameplay to remain uncompromised. While the grunginess of the aesthetic does match the tone and theme I can’t help but think there might have been a possible way to create a more visually interesting environment and some additional sound effects in places would have really added to certain enemies and characters. Overall, dying nearly five-thousand times in a video game doesn’t have any right to be so much fun but MineRalph makes that experience an absolute blast. Mastering your mouse movement and overcoming the creatively complex gravity-based scenarios is invigorating. Just be warned this experience isn’t for everyone, but for those who seek a true challenge.
Ok, so this game is basically the Dark Souls of physics platformers. Ruthlessly challenging, but consistent. Nostalgic vibe, and a lovely soundtrack. Also, gotta love the puns. 10/10
This 2D platformer is simple at its base while continuously upping the difficulty level to keep you on your toes. It's no easy feat to complete the game, especially while finding the secret in each level, but the triumph you feel when you get past the big hurdles makes it all worth it. Not to mention the fact that the game lends itself well to speedrunning, both in the physics of the game itself and the built-in timing and high score system. If you like fast-paced platforming with relatively basic mechanics that get used in a variety of creative ways, you definitely don't want to miss out on this.
Do you like speed? Do you like momentum? do you like physics based movement? do you like gravity? if your answer is yes to any of these questions then should should try this game! It has a unique but somehow familiar movement style that is a treat to try and master, each level teaches you something new and puts what you've learnt in past levels to the test, finally figuring out how to beat a level you've been stuck on for ages is such a rewarding experience. The game also lends it's self nicely to speedrunning as each level can be truly mastered and this in itself adds so much replay value to this game. I've spent at least 2 hours of my current play time just tying to get WR on 1-1 and I enjoyed every minute as I got better and better. Overall I think this game is great for both serious speedrunners and casuals alike, if you want to just stick on some music and chill this game got your back, or if you want to grind it out to be number one, you can do that too. I rate: A big fat BUY
Quick Score: 4/5 Notes: Pretty decent platformer overall, but the mechanics are a bit clunky and some of the sections and levels are insanely enraging. Long sections without checkpoints, and unpredictable puzzle elements that require constant trial and error. Completed main game while picking up a couple secrets in 4 hours and 636 deaths. I was playing the game with controller and it felt fine, it may be easier or harder with mouse controls.
A fantastic momentum oriented platformer. Hard to get used to, fun to master, extremely fun to go fast! Achievements are very very demanding however so if you wish to finish the game, strap in because it's gonna take you a while. One issue that only appears at the start of your experience is how you might not see the obstacles as you fly into them, however the more you play it, the more you understand how to prevent it and how to anticipate or even prepare saves in advance. Other than that, I love this game and strongly recommend everyone to try it out!
Absolute fun game. Great difficulty curve where its teaching you new mechanics slowly. The puzzles and platforming feel good. The Devs are very nice people that interract in the discord with the community and they encourage speedrunning! (see the 1k$ price for the fastest by a certain date!) 10/10 would buy again
Amazing level design, addictive gameplay and a cool soundtrack. What more do you need? MineRalph gives me oldschool platformer vibes while keeping it fresh with a unique movement system that is weirdly satisfying when you get used to it. This game should be up there with Celeste and Super Meat Boy.
