Byte Lynx

Byte Lynx is a game unlike any I've played before. Took a while to get my head around the unique gameplay but I really liked it. I recommend easy mode to start then up difficulty for a real challenge. Want to know more? Byte Lynx is a tower defence real time strategy game with aspects of ground control and base building. Towers can be built as static defences or placed on platforms for dynamic attacks on the opponent. All buildings must be linked to be controlled, giving a unique take on real time strategy games, in that you can cut off and assimilate chucks of the opponent’s defences and attack force. The story is interesting although minimal, with dialogue as text on screen, and forms all of the playthrough; there are no skirmishes or multiplayer options. There is a map editor with workshop support but it's not what you'd expect to quickly jump into a map as with other strategy games. Really enjoyable as a single player for a few hours.

This game lacks polish, the first mission had a mistake in the text and tutorial elements of the UI hid important things in the level.

A sua jogabilidade frenética, baseada na manipulação de estruturas, proporciona partidas rápidas e repletas de ação. O jogo é ideal para jogadores que procuram uma alternativa dinâmica aos jogos de estratégia tradicionais. No entanto, a curva de aprendizagem inicial pode ser acentuada, e a profundidade estratégica pode parecer limitada para jogadores mais experientes. Adicionalmente, a comunidade online é reduzida e o visual é relativamente simples, mas isto é uma questão de gestão de expectativas. Pelo preço, mais do que recomendo.

Interesting little RTS... But that particular definition is misleading. First of all there are 3 difficulties in the game and they all play differently. On easy enemies barely act, so you are almost free to do as you wish. On medium, it plays more like a puzzle game, where you try and take over weak points to get to the center as quick as possible. On hard the enemies constantly attack and force you to actually build defenses, and choose where to attack, meaning it actually plays like a RTS. Resources and resource management, work.... errr... "you built too many structures too fast, you need to wait a minute before building more"..... Mostly they are there, they have a use, but you don't really care about them. You get 4 offensive buildings. You get shield buildings, which I found to be mostly useless (short range, high cost, vulnerable), you get tesla towers, annoying to attack against, but mostly not very useful to build for a player (too expensive for defense, to slow for attack). Leaving you with a "truck" that can carry your buildings, which is a novel and fun concept and a "lance".... "Lance" is basically your main weapon (building). The building can attack 2 tiles to whichever direction it is looking at, and you can rotate it.... Rotating each of your lances (anywhere between 10-20 while you are attacking, and a similar amount while you are defending) every time you defend or attack, ends up to be the main game loop. I found that particular loop extremely annoying and useless.... BOTTOMLINE; Overall, the game is very interesting, has a few novel and fun ideas, the "lance" is annoying to say the least. I would recommend it as a fun and short (less than 20 hours, with 2 campaign playthroughs and 100% achivos) distraction to anyone that enjoys strategy games and/or clicking puzzles with a timer.
