Bought the game because the title said it was a chess game Ended up killing everyone Peak game

I feel like the reviews are a bit too harsh on this game. Sure, it’s not a triple-A title, and yes, there isn’t a ton of chess for a game with “chess” in the name, but at the end of the day, if you’re looking for something similar to Doki Doki Literature Club, this is actually pretty good. I found myself absorbed by the story and the characters (dont get atached to them to much to, you may regret it later) (and unlike what some people claimed, I’m 100% sure they’re not AI-made). A lot of people also complain about the price, but honestly, $6 feels perfectly fair for what you get. If I had one criticism, it’s that the game tries a bit too hard to make you think you have choices , when most of the time, whatever you do just redirects you back onto the main path or gives you no reaction at all. Overall, it’s a good experience, and I definitely recommend it.

First, I was learning chess, having fun, then all of a sudden, I'm Yuki, then I'm doing normal stuff back to VN, then all of a sudden I'm fighting sans, good thing I'm filled with determination like Subaru

Really fun and enjoyable. It’s simple, smooth, and entertaining, with great gameplay and good vibes all around. Addictive and satisfying, I keep coming back for more. Overall, a solid game that’s fun, relaxing, and has just the right amount of challenge.

this game very clearly is a "ddlc wannabe" game. is is not as good as ddlc but i think its just because you really cant beat the original. if i played this game before ddlc i would honestly be impressed with the overall game because at the end it had a nice story and cure charecters. the only thing i liked less is having to see the dialog everytime i died again but overall a very cute game. (also can kinda teach basic chess)

Everyone who's trash-talking this game are nerds actually expecting chess gameplay from the hit website chess.com. But seriously? The game's story is completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane, and that's what's fun about it. This for me ticked the fun-bad category perfectly, while still having themes that are serious and a gripping plot. If the developer meant all of it in complete seriousness, then I apologize. I guess interpretation lies in the eyes of the beholder. However, I genuinely had a blast. And the game has actually amazing background art, a banger soundtrack, and some interesting gameplay elements, albeit most of them are either poorly implemented or are being used maybe like once, "without" mentioning that "choice" is a negligible concept, since all paths lead to Rome.

combat tries to be innovative for a VN but gets repetitive after a bit. combat in a VN itself is an interesting innovation tho, from the steam reviews and social media i was expecting a story with metareality themes like ddlc, but imo the story was way too short and pacing was too fast, i mean i finished it with enough time to get a refund this is just an opinion but i feel like the dev should improve their narrative and storytelling skills to improve upon future VNs i'd give this game a review between yes and no, but since it's a solo indie dev and their first game on steam, im gonna leave a thumbs up
