Fun game for the price. Kept me interested to play to the end.

Button Tales, developed and published by Anvate Games, is a puzzle game that takes the familiar structure of match-3 mechanics and subtly reshapes it into something more deliberate and mentally engaging. At first glance, it presents itself with the cheerful, colorful aesthetic typical of casual puzzle titles, but beneath that inviting surface lies a design that places far greater emphasis on planning, foresight, and controlled experimentation than many of its genre counterparts. The central mechanic revolves around matching tiles on a grid, but with a key twist: each tile can be flipped, revealing a different state that can be used to form new combinations. This seemingly small addition fundamentally alters how the game is played. Instead of simply reacting to the board as it appears, players are constantly manipulating it into a more favorable configuration, thinking several moves ahead to set up efficient chains. The result is a gameplay loop that feels less dependent on chance and more rooted in deliberate strategy, even though an element of unpredictability still exists. This added layer of control is particularly important given the constraints imposed by the game’s level design. Many stages limit the number of moves available, turning each puzzle into a calculated exercise where efficiency matters. Players are encouraged to pause, analyze the board, and consider multiple outcomes before committing to a move. This transforms the experience from a passive matching game into something closer to a logic puzzle, where success often depends on recognizing patterns and planning sequences rather than relying on spontaneous matches or cascading effects. The progression system reinforces this approach by introducing new layouts and challenges that gradually increase in complexity. With over a hundred levels, the game maintains a steady difficulty curve that pushes players to refine their understanding of its mechanics. Later stages, in particular, can feel quite demanding, requiring precise execution and careful planning to complete within the given constraints. This makes the game especially appealing to players who enjoy overcoming structured challenges, though it may feel less accessible to those expecting a more relaxed, forgiving experience. Visually, Button Tales embraces a bright and whimsical style that contrasts with its more thoughtful gameplay. The world is presented through simple, cartoon-like visuals filled with vibrant colors and playful designs, creating an atmosphere that feels light and approachable. This aesthetic is complemented by a minimal narrative that follows a journey through a fantastical setting, providing just enough context to give the levels a sense of progression without overshadowing the core mechanics. While the story itself is not a focal point, it adds a layer of charm that enhances the overall presentation. The audio design supports this tone with gentle, upbeat music that maintains a relaxed mood throughout. Even as the puzzles become more challenging, the soundscape remains calm and unobtrusive, helping to balance the increasing difficulty. This contrast between soothing presentation and demanding gameplay is one of the game’s more interesting qualities, as it creates an experience that is visually inviting but mentally engaging. Despite its strengths, the game is not without its drawbacks. The reliance on a single core mechanic means that, over time, the experience can begin to feel repetitive, particularly during extended play sessions. While the level design introduces enough variation to keep things interesting for a while, it does not fundamentally change the structure of the gameplay. Additionally, the flipping mechanic, while innovative, can sometimes produce unpredictable outcomes, leading to moments where success feels influenced by factors outside the player’s control. Even with these limitations, Button Tales succeeds in carving out its own identity within a crowded genre. It takes a well-known formula and introduces just enough innovation to make it feel fresh, offering a more thoughtful and strategic alternative to traditional match-3 games. Its challenge level, combined with its accessible presentation, makes it a compelling choice for players who enjoy puzzle games that reward careful planning and persistence. In the end, Button Tales is best appreciated as a focused and cleverly designed puzzle experience that values depth over spectacle. It may not offer the variety or scale of larger titles, but its unique mechanics and well-crafted challenges give it a lasting appeal for those willing to engage with its systems. For players seeking a puzzle game that goes beyond simple matching and encourages deliberate thinking, it provides a satisfying and occasionally demanding journey. Rating: 8/10
Great ideas for much 3 game .
Okay, this is beautifully mindless. Surprisingly long game for drifting away to. Because it's based around limited number of moves it doesn't have that time pressure anxiety. And the flip mechanic means you end up flipping tiles mostly randomly, until you notice patterns emerging, or you start remembering what's on the side of the tiles you can't see. At this money - if you like match 3, it's an easy recommend for me. Is it fun? ... no, not really but it's something to do, ain't it?
Vale a pena
