Cave Quest (Match-3) Steam copy provided for Curator review One of my most-played match-3's of all time! Options include separate sliders for SFX, Music and Ambients, Full-screen, Custom Cursor and choice of Timed (bonus cash~! Ka-ching!) or Untimed (can be changed between M3 levels).
Story
Your family has disappeared in the mountains, and thanks to rumors of dangerous evil spirits, the locals are too afraid to help you search for them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1969463119 It's a good setup for a game, but the story is not the real focus of the game. It's all about the gameplay.
Gameplay
What we have here is a light adventure with a nice variety of match-3 types:

Traveling - Move your characters by clearing the pathway in front of them. I really enjoy trying to keep just ahead of them, and not letting them catch up to the game pieces if I can. 1. It's a fun little mini-challenge, and 2. If they don't touch any pieces for a bit, they'll have an explosive charge on them when they DO catch up! Ka-BOOM!
Clearing the board - Removing gloom, ice, chains, vines... That kind of thing.
Bringing items to the bottom of the board -- You may need to clear away rocks during the adventure, and you might find something useful while you're at it!
Battles! - Match-3 battles are turn-based, so once you make a move, it's the enemy's turn. Red tiles to attack, green to heal and blue for shielding. Making a match of four or more will earn you an additional turn. These battles aren't difficult, strategy-wise, but they're still fun :D
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1969488009 In addition to the various match-3 scenes, we have some light adventure gameplay. This consists of things like collecting items (sometimes from multiple locations), talking to people and doing some simple quests. There is a HINT button in case you don't know what to do next, as well as a fast-travel MAP, and the task list is a big help if you lose track of what you're supposed to be doing.
Money
You're going to make a lot of money whilst you play, and there's a shopkeeper who will be happy to take that money off of your hands. Items you purchase from him will either help you on your quest (adventure-wise), or will function as bonus items during Match-3 play... Sometimes both! Mr. Shopkeeper will get new items in stock periodically, so don't worry if you buy him out! Shiny new items will be available later. Don't have enough money, and aren't ready to progress in the story yet? There's a gold mine that will not only help you with your financial woes, but is also a great place to charge your bonus items. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1969486940
Verdict
This is a super-addictive match-3 with great gameplay variety and some light adventuring. The story lasted under 4.5 hours for me, but I've also played through this game at least a dozen times over the years... and now I've started over once again! Recommended!
Es gibt noch einen zweiten Teil davon, den ich mir holen werde und ein dritter ist in Arbeit. march 2024 edit: price got bumped to $10 for no reason, only recommended on sale now. cave quest is one of the more involved match-3 offerings, with turn-based battles, hidden object scenes and other stuff on top of the usual power-ups and whatnot. I was looking forward to playing it, but as is typical with expectations, they were shattered as soon as I started the game. thankfully, after the initial disappointment things got a lot better. turns out, language is detected automatically based on your operating system with no way to change it in the game. I hate it when devs cut corners like this, but the last time regional windows settings caused problems was in the 90s with some lucasarts titles. until recently, that is, on multiple occasions. all those languages are already in the game, how about adding a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ button to change it to whatever I want? failing that, I just edited default.cfg in the game's folder to only include the language I wanted, but I shouldn't have to do that. the other unpleasant surprise was the lack of widescreen support, but despite saying 2019 in the credits, it first came out in 2011. looks pretty good otherwise, audio is fine too, with some excellent music. there are separate volume settings and windowed mode with a resizable window, but can't turn off match hints and they appear quite fast. the unvoiced story is centered around isabella and her quest to find her awol family. her brother went to the mountains to look for spirits of the non-alcoholic, dead people's remains variety, and her folks followed. isabella is joined by mike, a budget indiana jones, supposedly her boyfriend or something, and events take weirder and weirder turns as things unfold. as for the game itself, relaxed and timed modes are available, you can switch between them any time, the latter offers more money for unused time. I hate timers, so went with relaxed and had to do a bit of grinding near the end (not to unlock everything but simply to progress) because I kept forgetting to use the hourglass for a resource boost. levels can't be replayed, always moving forward (not necessarily in a linear fashion), but there's a spot where you can mine gold repeatedly. match-3 levels are what you'd expect and you can keep matching while animations are playing. to go with the spelunking theme, paths have to be cleared for our heroes so they can reach the exit, chains have to be broken to free people, and so on. good variety, actually, with two of my least favorites also making an appearance (bring stuff to the bottom and regrowing vines). power-ups are the usual assortment, not created by matching many tiles, but mostly bought, then upgraded, and they need to be charged between uses by matching stuff. the occasional battle against monsters is turn-based, concentrating on matching red tiles to deplete the enemy's health, green tiles to heal yourself, and blue to create a shield. matching 4 or more tiles here grants an extra move, and of course everything applies to the monsters as well. to break up monotony even more, the adventure map offers some light puzzling, hidden object elements and more story bits between levels. I can always do without hidden object scenes, but they're not too bad here, the cursor even changes to a grabby hand over a goal item, and there's a hint button if need be. plus all sorts of things can be interacted with and somebody's bound to comment on them, which is neat. certain technical shortcomings aside, it's excellent stuff, one of the best in the genre. I almost completed it in a single session, shouldn't take more than about 5 hours.
Very cute game, $4.99, but I would wait for a sale. Fun match 3 game with the usual increasing level of difficulty (but nothing too hard) and some basic point and click find, combine, use objects type of play. Fairly short, my seven plus hours reflect breaks for food and house chores. xD No cards, achievements, or much replay value. 7.5/10
I honestly thought this game was like 15 years old instead of 5 and I wouldn't buy it at full price but it's still quite nice. The background story and characters are... uh... actually not important, so that's okay. But the match 3 gameplay and occasional item search is well made, I had fun.
Despite its dated graphics, Cave Quest is a very nice example of casual adventure with many different match-3, hidden object and point'n'click mechanics, followed by interesting story. Highly recommended for fans of genre. What...? This is actually pretty darn fun Match-3 game!!! I normally play these to take my mind off things or just because. Yeah. That's enough of a reason. First, it has really, really cool music! Unexpected! Second, I haven't been bored for a second. I expect to be bored from time to time when I get stuck... But nah. You go from different places and the game rules while staying the same, what you do is different. There is a little bit of Hidden Object / Point and Click and Exploration. You also get these cool power ups! Especially the little adorable froggy... Who gets costumes... I found myself at a point where I bought the wrong upgrade, but NEVER fear! The hint system told me to go to this cave... and you can "mine" it for money! They thought of everything!!! Oh... And you think you get used to the gems? And then they add a new one or change... So your eyes don't get tired at looking at the same things over and over again. I was supposed to come back to this game from time to time and ended up beating the entire thing... I think the game has some kind of magical spell upon it. Just a heads up: If you name your "Player", and misspell it or something, don't delete it right away. It causes the game to crash... It's obvious... The game has no where to connect to... So just make the right "Player" name and then delete the other one if you'd like. Also offers two different modes for two different kinds of players. It was so epic... Thank you so much!!! :D :> =)
向日葵游戏评分【7.5/10】
《Cave Quest》

Cave Quest is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam by serial offenders, HH-Games, as a cash grab. This is a basic match-3 puzzle game, the kind you can play for free or on mobile. Quality is mediocre, resolution is locked and like most mobile trash, there's no graphics tweaks or anything, so you have to put up with the mobile app as it is. Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. They want $5 USD for this free mobile app! Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. I didn't spend thousands building a gaming PC so I could pretend it's an iPhone. Just who do they think we are?
