Comedy brawler aiming to recapture in videogame form the style and shenanigans of popular Italian-made comedy films from the 60s to 90s starring Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. It was kind of a spiritual sequel/best of. This game was funny in dialogue and slapstick hijinks, if you like that type of humor. Not strong in beat 'em up mechanics, but the variety compensated for it. Variety in terms of gameplay and locations (it's not just a spaghetti western), not in terms of fighting moves. The animations seemed a bit too fast for me, but they were nice for the main characters. The enemy sprites were mostly bland and lackluster. Two players even if you're alone but second character is played the CPU. I appreciated that feature. The CPU-controlled player was competent except against bosses. Dialogues in French were amusing but had lots of conjugation and punctuation mistakes. Way more story interludes than most beat 'em ups I've played. I liked them, but they might annoy impatient players. Same thing for the mini-games. I liked those because they broke up the fisticuffs, despite clunky controls. But the beer and hotdogs game was frustrating and should have been made easier. It won't be a problem with two human players. The stilt man boss was very, very annoying. I almost quit the game right there. Lots of cheery songs in English taken straight from the movies, and they were a highlight. This is far from a remarkable beat 'em up, average at best, but there's fun to be had, especially if you're nostalgic of the Bud Spencer and/or Terence Hill movies.
went in with no expectations, ended up playing one of the most unique and genuinely great brawlers I’ve touched. Huge W.
I am in complete shock that this exists... I am in love!
This pixel-powered fist festival is an outrageously loving tribute to the legendary spaghetti-slap cinema of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill — but squeezed gloriously into chunky 8-bit form. It feels like someone stuffed an entire cult classic movie marathon into a retro arcade cabinet and then told it to start punching. The 8-bit interpretation is absolutely insane (in the best way). Flying fists, perfectly timed bonks, and that unmistakable cafeteria-brawl energy — it’s all there. I half expected beans to spill out of my speakers. Speaking of speakers: the soundtrack is gigantic. Every tune teleports me straight back into the films. Close your eyes and you can practically smell dusty saloons and hear someone getting comically walloped across the room. The story actually ties everything together nicely instead of just being “go here, punch that.” Achievements are cleverly placed, rewarding you for embracing the chaos properly — not just button-mashing like a caffeinated woodpecker. And the wordplay? Chef’s kiss. The humor lands as solidly as the uppercuts. Long story short: I laughed, I punched, I reminisced. And yes, I’m absolutely grabbing the sequel — because clearly, there are more beans that need slapping.
It was a good game until the eating duel part and when stealth level came. Too many enemies made the game unfun because didn't get any power upgrade or anything... just tons of enemies to beat by the same hits all the time.. got bored... too bad because I liked it at first..
What a fantastic game! Loved it, laughed a lot, bringing back such great memories and the soundtrack from the movies adds that extra special feeling to it. Simple and wonderful, worth every penny
Slaps And Beans is a classic 2D "beat 'em up" game where you walk from left to right and fight waves of enemies. The game doesn't try to be complicated. The controls are easy to learn, and the main goal is just to enjoy the action. It feels very lighthearted because of the humor. The characters react exactly like they do in their movies - there are funny facial expressions, silly animations, and plenty of jokes tucked into the dialogue and the background. The developers used a pixel-art style that looks great and colorful. The best part, however, is the 70s and 80s music. They used the actual songs from the original movies, which makes the whole experience feel authentic. When the music kicks in during a fight, it really feels like you are playing through an old action-comedy film. Overall, it is a fun and simple game. It focuses on making you laugh and giving you a sense of nostalgia through its great soundtrack and funny combat. If you like the old movies or just want a game that is easy to pick up and play, this is a great choice.
