Reviews
I had a good time with this, I'm not sure why reviews seem so mixed on it. Sort of the "frutiger aero" to the first game's "vaporwave". I replayed the original game when this was due to come out just to refresh myself on it, and I'm glad I did as this sequel does like to make little references back to the original (and it's not like the original is an overly long game). If you haven't played since 2018 I'd recommend running through it first. I see a lot of reviews complaining that the Liker being a 3D model now instead of the 2D pixel from Broken Reality, while it is mildly cursed it's definitely intentional. They're clearly going for that bubble-y 3D style of the 2000s. It fits the aesthetic here, whereas the old 2D pixel Liker would feel out of place. It's all about being rounded and smooth in the 2000s. It has little 'quests' but the first game did too, the only difference is now you get a little journal to somewhat help keep track of them. Definitely the same core collectathon style gameplay as the first. I also got the 'true ending' the first time around so I haven't seen the other one people are complaining about. I think it's just cause I collected all the 'shards' (this game's equivalent to Triangles from the last game) before pushing into the final level. If you enjoyed the first game, and the goofy 'frutiger aero' aesthetic shown in the trailers appeals to you, I see no reason you wouldn't enjoy this one as much as I did. Not sure why so many reviewers seem disappointed, this turned out more or less what I expected it to be. Also wanted to mention this game has some bangers in the new soundtrack, maybe not on the level of the first game, but still.

Having played the first game, i had high expectations of this and i got kinda dissapointed. The game itself is okay but it has a lot of flaws: All the artistic style is worse, they got rid of the beautiful pixel maps and the funny level badges, the random NPCs are ugly as heck. Then the tools, the new ones are very fun to use, although the camera is not as good as in the first game. And lastly the quests are vague and VERY buggy. The final message is very pretty tho! I would only recommend this if you loved the 1st game since this is a big step down, sadly. I look forward to the VR compatibility update tho, i think it'd be a cool game to just chill in VR!
Falopa nostálgica, muchos memes y referencias Es como un walking simulator/metroidvania??? No entendí mucho el lore porque jugué el primero hace mucho pero ya quiero ver que hacen para Broken Reality 3D pls háganlo son buenisimos
I think there's a bit a rose-tinted glasses in the reviews going on here. I'd say the same faults that Broken Reality 2000 suffer from are the very same faults that were in the original Broken Reality. Most of the puzzles are mind-numbing and feel like padding, the mechanics grow tedious, and you can feel how rushed the last few areas must have been. It is, in essence, the first game but different. But there's a bit more I hold against it that I think is hard to articulate. I can forgive those things above - I think the developers are working within the bounds they can and I think they tried in a lot of ways to provide something new here in the way of mechanics, simple as they are. What they haven't captured though, which was so prevalent in the first game, is the sense of adventure. That's not to say Broken Reality 1 was some narrative masterpiece, or really even did a whole lot more with its characters and settings. But there was a sense of navigating each stage in a way that felt organic. Some of them even had story beats. There was carry-through between stages, and as flimsy as it was, it was at least there. I wont praise the "lore", but that was also at least a thing you were exposed to throughout the game in Broken Reality 1, as opposed to here where seemingly its all just locked behind an ending. I've seen criticisms that the stages in Broken Reality 2000 feel smaller, and while I'm not so sure if that's actually true, they definitely FEEL smaller. Most of them are simply arenas where you sort of aimlessly run around in and get told to go grab something to unlock a door to the next part of the arena. And I say that and I realize that, you know, that really isn't all that different than Broken Reality 1. But the presentation just isn't there to mask it here. There's a bit of character that's been stripped away, everything is almost too tight, too matter-of-fact. I was disappointed by that, when seemingly, if anything, THAT was what should have been elevated from the first. Now, that's a long diatribe for someone who ultimately recommends the game. There is a lot to like here. The stages are, in a vacuum, very nice and there are some good vibes to be had. I appreciate the sort of Y2K aesthetic they're going for (even though I don't think they quite fully commit). Broken Reality is the only franchise that feels like it does, and for the most part, all those qualities are here. Play it if you like the first, but temper your expectations.
If you liked the first one, I think you'll like this one a lot! If you're unfamiliar, it's a slow walking sim. There are a lot of puzzles and less emphasis on exploration than the first one. It's more of the same, though there are a lot more NPCs and quests. Towards the end, it does slow down a LOT but so did the last area in the first game. There are hidden objects around, and they are much easier to find than in the first game in my opinion (though some were a pain to get still lol). It's gonna be a one and done for me, which I believe is pretty fitting. I recommend, but get the first one on sale first to test if it's your cup of tea. The pacing might put a lot of people off.
absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peak
Fun, buggy, slightly confusing, and atmospheric. It's an evolution of the first game with a bit more modern internet culture tied into the Y2K art direction. It's not healthy, but if you get hooked like I did you'll have a one-sitting session (pee and stretch breaks included!) like the first game. Absolutely worth getting if you enjoyed the first in any fashion. May require restarts and hints from the steam community at points. Go for the True Ending.

IMMACULATE VIBES!
I can't believe that I get to play a new Broken Reality game in 2026. Thank you DMT! A fair bit less vaporwave-inspired than the first but it has its own Y2K charm this time. I'd say the aesthetic is the main thing I'm a little let down by, I thought that all of the areas in the first were perfectly attuned to each individual subsect/subgenre of vaporwave, whether it be mallsoft with the mall area in the hub, the 2814 neon purple-drenched Geocity conjuring dreamy slushwave, the oceangrunge/seapunk Aquanet etc. I still think this is a no-brainer to try if you enjoyed the first in any way as it still has most of the charm that the first did. You even (functionally) get a sprint this time! (Even if you only get it about 5 hours in...). Still though, I had a great time playing through this. I played the first BR maybe 5 or 6 years ago now and its still a game I hold close to my heart. Both of these are surprisingly touching given the meme-heavy internet satire-drenched spew they contain.
I'll be completely honest, the music in the v2.0 version of The Cloud made me bawl my eyes out. I think everything just hit me all at once and I was stunned by how gorgeous the music is. Those strings man!
I'm glad DMT came back and I really really look forward to whatever they do next.
