This is a "this game is good, BUT" as there are a lot of things that irks me with it and may irks you too ! - You have to click more than once when you notice something, most of time if you're not ultra precise, it will count as being wrong. - A LOT of the errors are tiny, size based or only visible on a certain angle as there are multiple layers on each pictures. - The book language is in French. I understand the impossibility of having the content of the book translated in all language but they should have picked English, that would have been easier on the majority of players. I'm saying this while being French myself, this has nothing to do with disliking the language. - Sometimes, when you zoom in, you don't have access to anything at the edge of the picture. If you're OK with those points, then go for it, it's a pretty solid game and has a nice coding
This is a relaxing, finely detailed but not overcrowded find-the-differences game, with a gradually building narrative. The music is beautiful.
Broken Lens is a really unique "find the differences" game with actual story telling and hidden puzzles to discover secrets. Each level has a special item that can be found in addition to the differences, which contributes book pages to slowly reveal the secrets. The music is stunningly relaxing and the art style felt well tailored for the topics explored. Adding a slight touch of eerie and emotions. Things were quite fun in the beginning, but near midway through the game, finding the differences became increasingly difficult, to the point we needed to use hints multiple times on every level. What was the most frustrating was not being able to find the items even with the hint circle active. Many times I found myself clicking in random places hoping to find something, and that very quickly took the game from unique to really-not-fun. In addition, moving the camera frequently caused stutter or lag. Overall, Broken Lens presents a really good concept. But since it quickly turned into a blind-clicking headache, it is not a game i would recommend to my friends. The community guides were helpful for unlocking the secrets and their corresponding hidden achievements.
I bought this game in the Hidden Object Sale. At first I had quiet some fun, but then I started noticing that the Devs like to put differences in spots where they are hard to spot. As an example: In one of the later levels there was a robot covering a missing dot. I used a hint (which makes the game lag by the way) it pointed me towards if but I still had trouble finding this missing screw... because a robot was in front of it and there was no angle in which it could be seen clearly. So basically starting in the 2nd world I sort of "give up" when there are like 3 missing differences between the images, because I noticed that it's always something minor that's hard to spot. That's not fun. That's just "Okay time to wait for the next hint, because I am sure I won't find whatever's hidden here anymore." So in like the 4th world I've already been like "Okay, wait for a hint because sometimes you can only see the difference if you look from one specific angle in one specific zoom level!" and I kid you not I like hidden object games. I am fine if the translation if wrong and I like doing that sort of thing without hints. So having a game basically show me "Oh hey you will spend hours in this scene if you don't use a hint" is just frustrating. Second thing is the notebook. In the 2nd world I was like "Okay I finished the world, time to translate the notebook!" So I went to collect the hints which symbol would replace which letter and started translating the first page... until I noticed that one word said "le". Then I clicked the steam guides and read "The notebook is written in French." -- and then I gave up because I can't speak French. Why don't we write it in English? I've read that in some reviews that a lot of people seem unhappy about the choice that it's entirely in French. I get it, it would be hard to translate the entire thing into all 11 languages and I don't expect them to do that. Just use a language that ... well isn't French.
This is a very fun game and I think it's very well designed, some of the differences really do give you a hard time!
This is sooooo relaxing and scratches a certain itch for this type of game. You can't beat the price either. Surprisingly challenging in the best way.
Its a cute, fairly short game. I had to beat it over a few sessions, because the longer I would play the worse I would get at finding errors. Took me about 10 hours to 100%, the secrets are very hard to figure out, but the icons on the achievements helped me find them a bit quicker. Definitely a good game if you like I Spy or Where's Waldo style games.
