One arena level, an island, surrounded by deadly water, where you running in circles, shooting and dodging waves of similar, endless, and damn fast big jumping and exploding balls. Then, one ball is spawning right after you and you're -95 health (out of 100). And then next ball is just jumping that high that you just don't see it until it hits your head. Right in top of it. Death from above. There are three modes. First, "Survival": you just running from one crate (with one of 3 guns, or health boost, or ammo), which is stading right on the island sand, to the next one. Second, "Economical" mode, is about 100$ per kill, and insta-buys. Just click the button - and voila - the prize is yours! The catch is... that you need to actually catch that prize that you've just bought, and the blasting balls even on the 1st wave are much faster than you. Third, and the last so far game mode, is about standing at one place and shooting with the machinegun in all directions. Simultaneously. There's no "flying" mode so far, you can't shoot those balls on the fly-by, as the last video from the store page is showing. Honestly? It's a garbage "Arena" game, made with Unity engine, and there are, sadly, maybe hundreds games like this on the Steam store these days. However, I must admit, "Boom island" is trying. Trying really hard to be not like the others. There is a peculiar soundtrack, somewhat "original" visuals, fitting the supposed setting of the early 1900's and black-and-white cinema. The "options" screens, especially "visuals", are really touching, with all those anti-aliasing and such. However, the game is unplayable at moment. It lacks the very, very basic option to tune - the mouse sensitivity. You see, not only those exploding balls are running faster than you, and spawning right after your back or above you. The main problem is that it's the game where you need to constantly spinning around. And by the standard, you're turning right as fast as the weather vane... when there's no wind around. So - No. It's not just "rough on the edges", as someone said about it earlier. It's a garbage that some creative man is trying to present as the art object. Mark 4/10. I'd refunded it... but I was gifted with this "game". Guess it will stuck in my inventory now. Update 23.04.18: I gave this piece of crud 4/10? Maybe I was too kind thanks to the winter holidays? Well, NO! No-No! It's only 2.5/10 even now, with the mouse sensitivity added! Yes, it is a 1$ game with easy achievement... but I can buy plenty of good games for 1$, like Witcher 1&2 on GOG, or some more indie with Humble Bundle or some other storeplace... Not to mention I have other things to pay for other than stuff made worse than in the '90s. Because even then enemies respawning right after your shoulder were the bad case, and there it is the primo motion of the whole gameplay! But since the developer keep writing there, here are my latest bites: - screen resolutions under 2K are almost out of the game instantly. Yeah, I know, everyone with at least a bit of money have 2K monitors now, or even 4K... But not the prime audience of 1$ crud games - schoolboys with quite dated PC's - mouse sensitivity slider added, sure, and now it's finally at least Somewhat Playable. But you have to update this slider every single game. Gosh, that's soo lame and lazy codework patch! - MP-18 is the broken piece. Reloads are too long (while they are unnaturally fast with the shotgun, on another end), and when you try to use iron sights, you see... invisible weapon! it shoots, but you can't see it! - 3 game modes still way too boring, monotonous and unbalanced. In "Economical" I can go on forever, with just the pistol and health and ammo buys when needed. "Survival" needs at least more "speeding up" perks and the rule for balls not to spawn closer than 10 meters. They can be faster, too... The last one, "Protection" game mode, with the machine gun, is the most boring. And that gun is surely broken as well, as I need to aim higher than the balls to shoot them! When it's the common knowledge that your aim should always be lower than the target to hit it, especially with the automatic weapons. Have a nice day!
Overall fun and interesting game. A bit rough on the edges, but is just some good all fun for the price your getting around an hour of gameplay. Overall feel of game is quite on point and music goes along nicely. Pretty entertaining game 7/10
oh em gee!!!!!!!!1 i think this game is right alongside with pubg, cuphead and gta 5. the gameplay is immersive and very realistic with 9k graphics and features. 14/10
NEWLY REVIEWED AFTER UPDATES (Check end of first review) I was given a key to this game. Overall it's got some good ideas and it may well become a great game in the future. In it's current state it's rough around the edges but it's also cheap as dirt, so it's not like a huge waste of money even if you don't enjoy it at the moment. The developer is constantly working on it and trying to improve it. Here's my gameplay of it if you want to see some gameplay first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMnGnYNjjPE&t New review This game has already had massive improvements as you can see in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odeXS8QtPxM I recommend it more than I did previously, as a lot of my major concerns with the state of the game have been fixed or have a new jumping off point for future patches.
A fairly lame/just give me money/endless wave shooter slapped together by Caden Goodwin using Unity. One completely uninspiring island area where you have to shoot giant beach balls that explode when they touch you. You do this while being tortured with a single cafe music track that loops, where you going full blown Robert De Niro postal is probably only micro seconds from happening. This game becomes a big yawn within 10 minutes max even though it is padded with 3 modes. 1) Survival - Running from crate to crate to try and last as long as possible. (Hint just stay around a health crate) 2) Economy - Exactly the same as survival the only difference is instead of crates you now get a shopping menu instead. Each beach ball you blow up will give you $100.00. When you save enough, just click on the corresponding button you need from the menu to buy ammo, health or guns. 3) Protection - Using a mounted machine gun, protect a stranded plane from beach balls coming in from all directions. In this mode the gun aim is more off than a 'Y2K bug will kill us all' proclamation. Major problems... *Half the gun sights don't work properly. *No variety. Other than more beach ball spawns nothing else happens. No background changes, no changes in the enemy. *Buggy. You constantly have to play with the mouse slider. * 1 Music track on loop. The only saving grace, is that this game does have a level editor where you can make your own levels, decorating the landscape, moulding the terrain and littering it with nature. I'm clueless why this game got a lot of thumbs-up as the developer has done zero work on it for 2 years, clearly doesn't know how to code properly and never delivered on what he promised. I guess like all his beach balls, someone needed to let all the air out of his ego... https://youtu.be/SlkCeBkWNEw If you enjoyed reading this review feel free to subscribe to my curator page.

Can't go one round in any game mode without experiencing a bug. Unplayable.
