About
Book of Travels is a serene RPG adventure that sets you adrift in a fairytale world without the restraints of linear missions and plotlines.
Book of Travels is all about the journey, not the destination. Explore the wilds and visit the cities of the Braided Shore peninsula. Wander deep into the layers of this hand-drawn world, stumble upon its hidden places or unravel its many mysteries. There is no overarching goal and no real beginning or end.

Take note: This is a game for wayfinders and wanderers and your route is not pre-destined. Instead, it will be up to you to play in your own style and to shape your own journey. Whichever way you choose to travel, you’ll soon be adding your own chapters to Book of Travels.

I have been a longtime fan of Might and Delight, owning most of their games and loving their artistic approach. I backed the kickstarter for Book of Travels, enthusiastically because of my faith in this company. I played for many hours during early access and thoroughly enjoyed what was available. I created my own playstyle and worked towards goals in the game before taking a long break, keeping an eye out for more of the promised content. I have returned to find that not only has no progress been made, but horrific changes have been made to the inventory system that broke mine and most other people's playstyle, and they are shutting down the online servers. I am not opposed to transforming this into a single-player/local hosting game, but the current state of offline play is incredibly buggy and incomplete. Current list of bugs I run into frequently in offline mode: - NPC's become unable to be interacted with and only a restart of the game will fix. - Unable to click the travel button to move to another part of the map and can not be fixed without restarting the game. - I died once and every npc and item on the map disappeared and I was no longer able to interact with anything. Had to restart to fix. - Quests are still bugged if you speak to npc's at the wrong time. - A great deal of spells and features are now useless if local hosting will not be implemented. - The inventory situation I am going to call a bug, as it has completely nullified in-game items with pockets, rendering hours of gameplay useless. I was also forced to delete a very large amount of high-value items when I logged in for the first time after the inventory update. For a game that had 7,000 backers, promised 16 stretch goals, and has delivered none of them, and has not even delivered finished story content, I think this is an unacceptable place to leave the game in. When we backed this game Might and Delight said when discussing the challenges: "Might and Delight are experienced developers and publishers and fully aware of the demands and challenges of a busy production shedule. While we cannot rule out that minor delays may occur, we are fully confident that the project (which is part way through developement) will be successfully completed and delivered to all backers without issue." We have been patient with the delays. Willing to give them extra time, and for our loyalty, we get this. The fans and backers are owed, if not a multiplayer game, a single-player game free of bugs, a reverted inventory system, the ability to invite our Steam friends to our games, and really more of the promised content. Leaving it for fans to fix is just not acceptable. Might and Delight was a company I admired greatly, looking forward to each new game they put out and buying as much of their content as I could to support a small game company. If they can not give us longtime supporters a pivoted single-player/local hosting game that delivers on promised content, this is a huge breach of trust.

I don't mind that the game failed. I don't mind they couldn't deliver. I *do* mind that they couldn't even implement a peer to peer system instead of turning it into a purely single player offline experience. I paid 20+ for this and now it's 5? Bit of a piss take really.
A cancelled story-focussed "indie MMO" with some very interesting ideas. Sadly, development has been stopped and they're pulling the plug on all online components in a few weeks from the time of writing. This could have been something amazingly unique and uniquely amazing, but in its current state I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I decided to support Book of Travels something like 4 years ago, even tho the price (30€) was a bit high for an Early access title, but I did it because I saw huge potential in the game. I played 20 hours and, as I imagined, the game was lacking a lot of mechanics and areas but that was fine. Many years after that, the game is still lacking content to be considered somewhat finished, but the devs announced they will stop working on it... I mean, it's ok making the game offline if that makes it sustainable, but completely stopping to work for new content?? How should a new player trust the developers and buy a future game from them??
Book of Travels has a beautiful atmosphere, but the unfinished systems and removed features that were never added back completely killed it for me. It feels like the game was abandoned halfway through its own vision. I can’t even justify spending $4 on this. I’d honestly rather burn the money or give it to someone who actually needs it than support developers who left the game in this state. - Book of Travels is going offline, July 31, 2026
It looks gorgeous and unique, but they forgot to make a game.
well this was a game i'd been looking at and wanting to play for years ever since i heard about it, and now its 1$ and i see they're stopping development, but from the 25 minutes i played it feels barely finished. "Your money or your life," says the bandit, only to stand there and do absolutely nothing when you refuse. They just allow you to walk off. Wow, great game! TLDR: This game feels like a completely unfinished tech demo and is barely a game to speak of, with nonfunctional systems everywhere you can possibly look, and half of the game broken or purposefully removed according to the developers... who then declared that the game was permanently unfixable and that they were going to cease development on it... i can't say i have respect for them with that in mind, as this is barely a game, moreso a tech demo, and 1$ is a fair price for that. for what it's worth, it's a pretty game, but that's about it. it's largely unfunctional in a way that reminds me of some roblox games. maybe modders can fix the game for the developers and actually make something worth playing, but that'll take a very long time.
Another failed Early Access title. This game will never be finished/realized and I'll eat the mistake of handing over money before it was completed. A reminder to never buy into Early Access. Might and Delight has lost any faith I had in them as a developer and I will not buy their games ever again.
"Book of Travels is all about the journey," they said. Then they cut that journey short by abandoning its development. 100 hours into Early Access, my character was level 9 with over 100k value worth of goods (it would've been even more if they hadn't reworked the inventory system). I was eagerly waiting for the new content, the new regions they promised, and then suddenly: "Server shutdown. Thanks for playing. Lmao" That's it. Where's all the new content? Where are the cities and lands we were promised to explore? A vision cut short.
I am beyond sad about the recent news of the servers closing. This was supposed to be a poetic, online multiplayer game. This was supposed to be a world to explore, with lore, incredible music and magnificent art. Instead we got but a glimpse of these things, and we will never see it complete. This game was supposed to be about emotions too, but the only emotion it makes me feel is emptiness. By all means support the artists and people who had vision for this project... But it seems like these people have already left the studio. Cursed be management and every decision that lead to the lay-offs at Might & Delight, and the end of this wonderful project.
