The inspirations behind BLIK are obvious, although they only exaggerate its flaws. The game is a series of weak puzzle chambers with a narrator that is neither funny nor clever. Its puzzles rely almost entirely on a flawed and tedious reflection mechanic where players bounce projectiles off mirrors. Unfortunately the bounces are just variable enough to miss their target and cause anger. There is little to learn across the 3 hour adventure, and unlike similar games, it doesn’t introduce enough new ideas. First-person puzzlers of this ilk usually turn out decent enough, but when they don’t it’s definitely time to take a good, hard look in the mirror.
BLIK * 7/10
Learning Portal's lesson, BLIK delivers Same atmosphere, similar, yet different mechanics and puzzles to entertain. Not perfect but it works.
INTRO & GAMEPLAY. What is BLIK about and how does it work?
As a new student of the academy you're here to prove your capabilities through 60 levels consisting of reflecting mirrors, your "laser gun" and other contraptions that add variation to the intuitiv base mechanics such as slowing or speeding barriers, timed doors, color associated receivers, deadly lasers and so on. It doesn't use anything as creative and versatile such as (why did the sentence has to turn this way?) Portal's portals, nor is as precise and flawlessly working, but once you get used to its mechanics you definitely have an entertaining puzzle game to enjoy.
GRAPHIC. Engine And Artistic aspects.
Made with Unity, the aesthetic impact is strong. Rooms are very simple, but they are enriched with abundant reflections and light effects. BLIK's style resembles intentionally Portal's grey minimalist rooms.
SOUNDTRACK. Themes and Accompaniments.
Unfortunately, except for the menu there's no music at all. Which is something that doesn't help as it impoverish the experience. Just to keep the comparison with portal (the second one in this case) do you remember how music was dynamically changing as you were completing the puzzle in the room part by part? That's the very ideal situation but some simple accompanying themes would have been fine as well.
LAST NOTES. What doesn't work?
Besides the total lack of music there's the language situation. I'm Italian but I'm not expecting a localization, nor I need it as well. In 2018 if you still don't know english that's your own problem. But this is not the point. The point is: why did my game start in russian? Steam as well is entirely set in english yet BLIK didn't recognize that, probably it saw my Italian OS, don't know. But if that's the case, why did it start in russian? Another thing is Unity. As usual performaces are poor. My laptop is not a high end gaming machine, of course, but I get better framerates from games more demanding than BLIK, so it could use some optimization. An important thing is shooting. Ok, it's not a common FPS but considering you shoot the "laser projectile" that is supposed to bounce through mirrors it's important the way you shoot. So if you aim straight horizontally and the laser bounces on a perfectly vertical mirror why does it bounce up? Also, it looks like you're shooting holding the gun a couple meters on your right as it can accidentally hit walls that barely get in your way. Many other players already noted that mouse looking is too... I don't know, fluid, softened. It's hard to describe. It's slow and not much reactive. It feels like I'm moving my mouse as if it was a joypad. However I confirm that awful sensation. One last note goes for the levels, or rooms construction. Their simplicity is irrelevant, that's ok, portal wasn't exposing nothing too impressive as well. The point is that some minor details are like a fist in the eye, such as walls with tiles in a way while rooftops are not aligned. And stretched as well. Soem stairs are ugly inclined extrathin platforms. Not to mention the "open air" rooms. A fully monochrome blue sky doesn't give that sense of open air that was totally missing from portal or Q.U.B.E.. Adding a couple of clouds definitely could help. Maybe some sun as well.
TL;DR. Pros And Cons

+++PROs+++

PUZZLES. BLIK brings 60 rooms of puzzles that require both some head to find the solution and attention to solve them with precision.
GRAPHIC IMPACT. Being an indie game it has a good impact, visually speaking. Yes, rooms are simple but reflections and lights add some style and modernity to the complex.

---CONs---

LOCALIZATION. I have steam set as English and the game starts in russian. That's odd.
SHOOTING. Trajectories seems to be a bit crooked, and in a game where you shoot projectiles that have to bounce all through the room that's an important trouble. You have to get used to it and balance the shooting with some trial and error compensating the direction.
ARCHITECTURE. Different elements around the levels could have used more care in construction as while it looks fine as whole, the moment you start waking around you can't avoid noticing some elements that don't match the rest of the room.
UNITY. The game performed poorly in my system. It's not a high-end gaming laptop, I know, but it runs more demanding games. And better.
NO MUSIC. The game totally lacks music through the levels. That's a great absence. Как представитель первого отзыва скажу,игра весёлая,сложная играл в нёё на ранеей стадии всем советую:)
Out of all the Portal want-to-bes, this is deifently one of the better ones. If you like Portal for the puzzles, you'd probably like this. I also have to mention that the look controls are laggy, so if that type of thing bothers you maybe wait for them to fix it (if they decide to)
Have not finished it, but it's pretty smooth once you understand the tricks. The voice acting is pretty good and the redesign of the first person puzzle genre is pretty good. The one negative guy didn't even attempt the game, I put in the hours to give an honest review. Price is on point. Edit: Finished the game, everything went pretty smooth. Not every shot will be consistant all the time, but it's pretty darn close, and not very irritating. Walking only has 2 slow downs- when moving side to side or bumping an entity, but it's super brief. It's done very well!
I am actually sad giving this game a thumbs down, especially considering its low price and its apparent premise on first-look. Simply put: If you are into this genre, BLIK will not satisfy you even the least bit. It tries to implement the exact same formula of Portal series, but fails to deliver on every front. The only reason I finished the game was because it's Portal-like ambience. But in terms of puzzle-content, the game does not go beyond any Flash game you would find free on web inspired by Portal. As a fan of the genre, I will state what I found to be very weak: 1) Almost no exploration/experimentation around the introduced puzzle mechanics. In BLIK, you are to deal with the same puzzles that you encounter in the first 5-30mins of gameplay time. Rest of the gameplay is just permutations of them over and over again. 2) Really simple puzzles that take at most 1 mins to solve on your mind. Rest is implementing the solution. 3) Only a few puzzle mechanics/constructs: 2 types of mirrors w/o bulbs and 3 types of beams and thats all. (This is not always a bad thing when dealing with innovative puzzles throughout the game; sadly this game is not one of them) I believe if a game of this genre is successful on the above 3 goals, the rest is ignored easily (such as plot, graphics etc.) Graphics are decent. Plot is very weak. I really dislike when weak plots/narratives try to deliver philosophical messages with little-to-no game-wise supplements. GlaDos gets to lecture us because we have a much more tactile experience with her. Music is non-existent. Mouse movement takes 1min to adjust, so its cool. But jump is a disaster. The killer lasers are really annoying and out-of-context, this game definitely does not need them. Finally I'd like to elaborate on a major con related to the gameplay. This is what bored me despite all the flaws above (because I love the genre and I suck it up): It is hard to implement the solutions of the puzzles. As I said, it takes a minute to realize what you need to do, but then it takes 15mins to actually do it. This is frustrating because: 1) You need to position mirrors with precision, but you dont have any means to do so. Your only cue is that a blue type of mirror shows a ray when directed to another blue type of mirror or an exit-point. And this cue only appears when there is no obstacle between them. This is simply not enough. I think this is what made devs conservative about the difficulty of the puzzles. 2) When you dont have exact/snapped positioning, it is very hard to orchestrate a 4-5 mirror-bounce. Not only that, the angle you fire your beam is also another variable as well as the exact position it hits the mirror. Combining all these, it gets very hard to do what you want to do. A simple ray-trace triggered by a right-click would have done wonders here. 3) It is hard to see or hear the reason you implementation fails. It appears to hit the exit-point, but did it? Or did it just hit its side? Or did you forget a mirror? Well, if you go check-out, you position will change and you will need to search that sweet-spot angle and position for your character again. Long story short: Dont buy this game. Really do another Portal playthrough instead if you are missing the genre. But you won't miss anything if you skip this one.
I have to say, I think this is an awesome game! I made a review if you want to check it out! Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18c0AbG8xEg
OK, so there's a bug in level 43 (not for everyone, but most definitely for me) that makes it impossible to finish this level and, consequently, the game, but I've seen enough to come to a pretty well grounded conclusion. So basically this is serviceable, but compared to competition looks bleak. I don't like saying this, but the plot is just terrible. There are much better games that have no defined plot at all. I would say play this if you're a fan of first person puzzle games, but keep in mind that the following first person puzzle games are MUCH better, imho: Talos Principle (and Road to Gehenna), The Witness, Portal (1, 2), Mind: Path to Thalamus, Antichamber. Also the following games are simply better than this: Q.U.B.E. and Q.U.B.E. Director's Cut, The Turing Test, Qubeh-1, Rememoried. And that's just from what I've played (and I haven't played much).
