I've never had any game, let alone a 2.5D platformer, give me motion sickness before, but somehow this game has managed to do that. I think the camera moves and bounces around way too fast in order to follow Kit. Enemies also have the ability to combo you and you cannot counter until the attack animation is over, and by that time you're dead. Really kills the fluidity of what is supposed to be a fast paced game.
Loved this game, but the camera needs an option to be fixed in place better, instead of bobbing around so much. Recommended it to a friend having forgotten about that and they got sick. :( Otherwise, It's good.

I enjoyed every single bit of this late 2000's Jetix Cartoon-like game. Beautiful and cute protagonist, funny side characters, nice story and lots of metroidvania platforming action and combat which can be rewarded in ingame money to purchase upgrades and costumes for your Cat Lady. The Upgrades are good for you since There will be a lot of difficult enemies in the road, so you will need a lot of health, stamina and weapon damage to counter some enemies and even bosses. Speaking of this game when I was doing my research on it I found out that Blade Kitten is based on Web Comic which surprised me cause I just know about the game. It's nice to have some additional lore and I hope the lore continues cause It would be shame to lose such gem of a franchise.
Great game to play if you like side scrolling platformers with plenty of action and monster beating. Similar to Strider, platforming is varied and smooth movement is more than enough to recommend this one.
The last third of this game is paid DLC due to the extended development time. The team dropped the price of the base game, so they’re offering better value, but it’s also meant to lure in unsuspecting buyers, which is kind of sneaky, so I guess it’s a wash. Just know that the full game is worth $7-8 at full price, not $3. Is the base game worth buying? I mean, against the multitude of options in this store and others, all of the possible discounts, not really, but as a bargain bin hack-and-slash platformer with a bunch of collectibles, it’s decent value. The story is paper thin. You’ve got your typical Sci-Fi setting with aliens, bounty hunters, and space marines. Kit, our protagonist, does some jobbing before we’re suddenly confronted with a planetary threat and Kit being a survivor of a genocide, which hits with all the impact of an empty plastic bag. Any potential for engaging writing is crowded out of the plot by Kit’s banter. Her delivery isn’t annoying, but her shtick is repetitive, and it makes scenes that should have different tones just melt together. It’s not like the game is trying to have a deep or exciting plot, but that doesn’t stop it from reeking of genericness. The presentation is a bit better. They haven’t aged all that well, but the designs and animations are fine for the year this came out. Skiffy is cute. The proprietor with the racist Asian accent isn’t. The other designs are just kind of… well… generic. The environments are fine, but they lack personality: the bazaar, the tenements, the fortress, the temple, the factory… I’ve seen it all before. Maybe I’d get more out of them if the world were more fleshed out, but as they are, they’re long and visually repetitive. That brings me to the gameplay. It’s functional, but it’s very uneven. Searching for hidden collectibles is pretty fun, but the sparse use of direction indicators makes it hard in some levels to tell the main path from side paths. Since I prefer to search for collectibles before taking the main path, this meant I had to feel things out by the use of checkpoints, which was annoying and time-consuming. The combat and platforming are pretty easy, but they don’t feel fluid. There’s a tiny delay between attacks and jumps that might not seem like much, but it slow things down quite a bit cumulatively. There are also a few glitches: I got stuck in a few places that made the character model blink and twitch, and the screen turned completely white in one small section of one level. Nothing broke the game for me, but be wary. I can’t say I really like this game, but with twelve substantial levels, collectibles and time trackers, I think it’s just worth it to grab on sale. However, I would not buy the DLC unless you came off the base game truly hungry for more. DLC Review
Some people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on this game but what they don't get is that back at day in 2010, this game was superb by that decade's standards. Blade Kitten was one of the unique games using shading style like borderland, the platforming is different than any game that existed back in the day. Even now, the game is still awesome and better in playability and quality compared to games that claim they're AA or AAA for 10 times the price and don't provide as much content in the same quality. So don't fall victim to presentism and give the game it's chance and be just in comparison with games of its era.
I suck at this game. I really suck at this game. The only achievement I got was dying 9 times on one level. Still, it was fun. I got about 5 hours of gameplay out of it before admitting defeat. Still, it was fun to play.
Good character writing and entertaining jokes. Kit Ballard is a great protagonist but this game was very small, it would be nice to see a sequel that is an action adventure open world game like the old Ty games. Get on it Krome. We'll probably never get another game but if you like the Ty series then you should like this game too.
Blade Kitten, developed and published by Krome Studios, is an action-adventure platformer that brings a distinct anime-inspired flair to the genre. Centered around Kit Ballard, a feisty cat-like bounty hunter with a whip-like tail, the game invites players into the richly crafted world of Hollow Wish, where exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving are interwoven into a vibrant, cel-shaded landscape. With its colorful visuals and fast-paced gameplay, Blade Kitten aims to capture the spirit of classic platformers while adding its own unique narrative and stylistic twists. The story follows Kit as she pursues a dangerous fugitive on Hollow Wish, only to uncover a deeper conspiracy threatening the planet’s future. While the narrative injects humor and character-driven moments, it can feel somewhat shallow and predictable, leaning heavily on internet slang and casual banter that may not resonate with all players. Despite this, the character of Kit Ballard stands out as a memorable and charismatic protagonist, with her attitude and personality carrying much of the game’s charm. The plot serves primarily as a backdrop for the gameplay, which is where the game truly shines. Gameplay in Blade Kitten blends traditional platforming elements with combat mechanics centered on Kit’s whip tail, which players use both for traversal—swinging across gaps or climbing—and for engaging enemies. The combat system is approachable and emphasizes chaining attacks and using special moves, though some players might find it repetitive over time. Exploration is encouraged through level design that includes hidden areas, collectibles, and environmental puzzles, although certain sections lean towards linearity, which can limit the sense of discovery. The pacing balances action and platforming well, making for an experience that’s accessible to newcomers but still offers moments of challenge. Visually, the game stands out thanks to its cel-shaded graphics that evoke anime and comic book aesthetics. The world of Hollow Wish is detailed and diverse, featuring lush jungles, futuristic industrial zones, and other varied environments that feel distinct and immersive. Kit’s character model is colorful and expressive, and her animations are smooth, enhancing the fluidity of movement and combat sequences. This artistic approach helps Blade Kitten maintain a lighthearted and vibrant tone, which complements its playful narrative style. The audio design supports the overall atmosphere with an energetic soundtrack that fits the game’s upbeat pace. Voice acting is present throughout the story, adding personality to the characters, though it varies in quality and sometimes lacks polish. Sound effects for combat and environmental interactions are effective and contribute to the tactile feel of gameplay, even if they don’t push any boundaries. From a technical standpoint, Blade Kitten performs well across various systems, delivering consistent frame rates and responsive controls. The interface is straightforward, allowing players to focus on exploration and combat without confusion. While the game may not offer deep customization or complex mechanics, it remains user-friendly and inviting. Overall, Blade Kitten offers a fun and visually appealing platforming adventure with a quirky protagonist and a whimsical world. It may not revolutionize the genre or provide a deeply immersive narrative experience, but its charm lies in its style and the straightforward enjoyment of its gameplay. Fans of anime-inspired games and classic action-platformers looking for a lighthearted journey will likely appreciate what Blade Kitten brings to the table, even if it falls short of becoming a must-play classic.
