A very unique perspective on the RPG scene. You play as the blacksmith having to pay close attention to the materials you use to craft various items and interact with various adventurers gearing them up and even tagging along for their escapades should you want to. I'd suggest you try it out, I loved this game and absolutely demolished it. It's got more than 14 hours of gameplay within it but steam only recorded one session of mine for whatever reason. *shrug* Worth every penny and a very active developer is quick to answer any concerns or questions you have about the game it'd seem!!
Pretty extensive for what it is. No bells and whistles, but solid mechanics and a decent story. Only criticism would be to tweak the rate that adventurers earn at, it takes forever to bring a new one up to speed.
If graphics are going to be this bad, and the game this simple, bugs with the controls are utterly unacceptable. Do not buy
Blacksmith is a business/career simulator/RPG hybrid game where you run and micromanage a blacksmith and also run a party of heroes through dungeons in a lightweight ARPG with clicker style combat. The game features hand drawn art plastered over a low poly 2D/3D interface. There's quite a few issues with this game, almost all of them due to the general concept and playability. The hand drawn graphics are pretty bad, however, to the extent that it makes the cartoonistic simplicity of South Parks paper cutouts look masterful. Clearly the developers have a fascination with blacksmithing that surpasses any other, because the blacksmithing, while factually inaccurate, is still somehow tedious as watching paint dry. Gameplay relies a lot on timing, grinding, and shuffling around town to perform crafting tasks. The RPG component is barely worth mentioning as it's all side scrolling autocombat with the occasional click to activate abilities/potions etc. To try sum this one up, it's easy to have an idea for a video game, very easy. It's not even that hard to have a GOOD idea for a video game, but not everyone can manage that. It's much more difficult to translate a good idea into compelling, engaging and interesting gameplay, but Blacksmith is very, very far from that. Also, $14.50 when you can get games like Skyrim and Far Cry for like $5... are these guys serious?
I like to play my games on easy mode... I'll leave you stewing with that for now. Jumping into it - the first thing to say is that it was addictive. The pull of the game has caught me a few times. Every time I've invested a half hour into the game I've found myself lost in it for 2-4 times that. There is nothing wrong with the desire to play more. In normal cases wanting more is a good sign that the game has you riveted. But being at the edge of your seat is not the whole story here. I like the story of the game to flow nicely so that my experience is filled and void of any boring bits. The experience does not need to be dependent on words to be properly conveyed. Discovering game mechanics, honing the efficiency of a system, or solving a string of puzzles can all be - what I see - as story. And here is where I see two stories clashing. I am keen to get through the dungeons and unfold the rest of the game while taking part in the traditional "story" part. But I don't want to. Ultimo and whatever lies beyond feel like challenges I need to be prepared for. And like my pokesquad being 10+ lvls higher at all times - I want to perfect my team before I go. But it's not the team being fully equipped that has me anxious about not seeing the next part of the story. I want my OWN craft to be honed to a precise point. I want my days and weeks in game to be structured and patterned. To be organised. And as time rolls by - with no concern for you or your actions - the days become a mad rush to think out the best action plan in the shortest space of time. And it's this that has me worried that I'll be spending all my time on my days efficiency before any story progression. But that might all be okay. The additional tools and dodads are a steady iteration on the little puzzles of the world. The refining of my system makes each bit of efficiency I eke out a new achievement. The combination of every new mechanic brings awe as it forcibly unfolds before me. And every part of this process is just another piece of a fully fleshed out Story that has me itching for more. This game is a very lovingly made sim - and it's more then just that. It is a quirky tale, some cleverly thought out systems, a well made game (for game sake), and a humble approach to art. If you can stomach the first impressions you will be in for an interactive connoisseur treat. It might remind you that a good meal is not necessarily comprised of the most expensive ingredients. ~Seriously - I love Ultimomoto san <3
Couldn't get into it. Menus are clunky and unhelpful, the tutorial was mostly useless, I kept failing at everything I tried without knowing what was done wrong... And I don't care for the art one bit. Might be for you. I didn't like it.
Pozytywna gierka :) ma duszę i pozwala się wyciszyć :)
The dev is really active and is trying to help people with any problems regarding the game in the discussion forum. If there is a problem, the dev usually answers within a day. This alone deserves a positive review :)
I'm so disappointed! This game has been really fun to play, but as Retoran posted a few hours ago, this game is buggy-- the dialogue box gets stuck open after sleeping and it's not just when you leave it open when you go to bed, sometimes it just doesn't go away! Restarting the game makes you play the previous day over then I ended up having the same bug. Same thing happened on a clean save. They released a patch this morning, I wonder if that's the problem? Please fix this because the game itself is quite fun! EDIT: I changed to recommended because of not based on the quick response time of the devs and their interest in improving the game quality.
