Honestly its a solid game and the grind really hooks you at first Unfortunately after a few hours you notice that the content runs out of steam and some mechanics are really clunky. It's decent but youre better off getting it on sale
As I lay here dying, I see the sun rise over the clouds. I knew at that very moment, I had found peak
Incredibile remake di Half Life 1. Il gameplay è fast paced e gli scenari in alcune sezioni risultano mozzafiato da quanto sono belle, specialmente verso la fine del gioco. Ora manca Half life 3 però
Φανταστικό παιχνίδι, ένα από τα καλύτερα remakes που έχουν βγει ποτέ.
Black Mesa represents a lost (or at least rare) genre, the physics-based FPS. It feels at times like an immersive sim, like Deus Ex or Prey. A given sequence might play out like so: There’s some explosive trip wires blocking my path. At first, I try to navigate my way through them like that awesome scene with Vincent Cassel in Ocean’s Twelve. Except I’m not Vincent Cassel and I bump into a shelf and a box falls from the shelf into the lasers and they explode. I die. Brilliant idea, Mr. Shelf! This time I pick up a small box from a nearby shelf and throw it at the lasers to set them off. I miss. Apparently, the small box is more like Vincent Cassel than I am. So I grab a big metal canister and throw it. But it’s heavier and only flies like a foot, falling short. So I pick up a bigger cardboard box and throw it, hit the lasers, which blow up. But then that explosion sends a bunch of crap flying that then sets off a different tripwire that activates some auto-turrets. Hello, they say. I die. Alright I do the same thing as previously but then I make sure to hide behind a big metal barrel. Except, oh no, the turret bullets hit the metal barrel, tip it over and it rolls down a ramp, leaving me without cover. I die. Finally, I do the same thing but then I’m ready and immediately shoot a grenade at the auto turrets, blowing them up before they can kill me. Tada! It’s almost like solving a puzzle, except it doesn’t feel like a puzzle. It feels like I’m just experimenting with a world existing in its natural state. The cardboard boxes weren’t placed there so I could throw them into trip-wires, they were placed there because I’m in a warehouse. And that feeling of navigating an actual world rather than playing a game comes through in other elements, such as in light platforming in the earlier levels. I might be on a roof and need to get down and there doesn’t appear to be an obvious path. There’s no ledges highlighted in yellow paint. Instead, I see hmmm there’s like an A/C box hanging out of the wall that I initially dismissed because in a lot of games, invisible walls restrict where you can and can’t go. Not here, though. So I try to make the jump and sure enough, that’s my path down. By contrast, modern shooters tend to feel much more gamified. The dynamic, interactive elements are constrained to enemies, explosive barrels, and pick-ups. Maybe some weird collectible that doesn’t make any sense and definitely wouldn’t be something I’d be worried about when fighting off an alien invasion. Under this design, the world itself is background, pretty maybe but ultimately static and unresponsive. The end result is that, for me at least, Half-life, this HL remake Black Mesa, Half-life 2, and so on not only still hold up, they’ve actually gotten better with age. Because they represent a view of games in which the goal was to create fantastic worlds and situations and allow players to exist in them and navigate them on their own terms. That’s not really the goal of most games anymore, and it leaves me wondering, Where might we be, if the gaming industry had chosen another path?
