Experienced on Oculus Rift with Xbox controller.
This game is not theBlu and it's not Abzu. So if you're expecting that you will be sorely disappointed, so stop reading and go look at other games. If you're still reading, this game is basically a simple walking simulator ... or is it a swimming simulator? You're a Killer Whale (a small baby one?) in the ocean swimming to overcome some obstacles and reaching balloons to possibly free your ocean friends. The emphasis is not on the racing or obstacle course, but on the zen like trippy visuals around you. When you die, you simply get a prompt that says you died and restart at a nearby checkpoint. For that reason, the game never feels challenging or stressful but just a calm, chill game where you are enjoying the sights and sounds. I think that is what the dev intended. You do need a gamepad to play this game. On Xbox controller, you use direction to move left or right and A to jump and left bumper to dive. The visuals are on the artistic side. You will see a glowing whale floating above the water in the rainy ocean night and you will see balloons and flowers popping over a sunny ocean scene. See my screen shots below. If that interests you, then this game is for you. Unfortunately, the graphics do stutter along at times. The sounds are ambient ocean sounds mixed with mostly relaxing music. The game has 4 chapters although the last chapter is simply cinematic. In between the chapters the game does talk about the Sewol Ferry incident. I found it a little jarring (especially since the game is so relaxing), but it's only text and only during a brief loading screen in between chapters. You may not like the preachy tone of the message, but I didn't mind. The game took me 38 minutes to complete. I do recommend this game. But only if you're interested in a relaxing ocean walking simulator with gameplay focused on aesthetics above all else. In fact, it's more a zen experience than a game. So this is not for everyone. I personally think it's a little on the expensive side for what you're getting, not because it's only 38 minutes long but just from the quality of the content. That's why I'm only giving a tepid recommendation. Rating 5.5/10 Note: Received game free to review via Steam Curator program. I had game on my Steam Wishlight prior to Curator program offer so I had seen it, but had decided not to purchase because I buy too many games and it hadn't interested me enough to pull the trigger. However, this is only the 2nd game I have received free on Curator program. When I receive game free to review I feel I have an obligation play game from start to finish. I try my best to give you my honest impression of the game. I am not a professional reviewer. I am a lawyer who reviews VR games as a hobby. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1326690548 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1326691056
