https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7jC9QHsGN8 A neat puzzle platformer where you play as a ball. It does also have some emphasis on physics as you need to manoeuvre your way around the area and a lot of times have to travel great heights using your special technique of spraying fog. This is because in certain areas there are translucent beams that you can pass through, but when you spray at it, then it becomes solid and becomes another path of travelling from place to place. The game is also like a 2.5D type as you do also often have to change the direction and camera you face 90 degrees one way or the other in order to continue on the path, as sometimes you end at a block in one direction so a switch is needed. The difficulty does start off rather simple as you begin just moving from location to location. But as you progress, it does get harder and more complex as there are more obstacles and ways to solve that are required to pass the levels. At times, timing is also a key component in moving about. Sometimes, it is just minor things like moving between simple gaps and areas, whereas others it is important like having to spray the fog to reveal the beams and jump to the next while spraying so that you don't fall back down. The controls are easy enough to play with as there aren't much to use. Visually it looks ok, though there are some nice details to the background and environment of the game as you view while rolling about. Overall, it is a fun puzzle platformer with some nice challenges and is worth a check out for those into the genre.

YOU are heroic! YOU have no fear! YOU can manage everything! YOU have Powers, no one has before! YOU ARE ….. a Ball…. „Excuse me, dear Developer. Did you give me the right Game? I mean, it is a Ball?!“ „Yes, it is the right Game!“ „But you said the Hero is heroic, has no fear, can manage everything, has Powers, no one has before. I mean……. A ball?“ „That`s right. It is not just a Ball. It is a Rescue Pod. And she has a Name. MARBLE.“ „What?“ „Yes, and our hero is inside MARBLE.“ „Oh … ehm…. ah, i see. Then lets go!“ Hello dear Reader and welcome to BEAM! Yes, we have an extraordinary Hero here. In the Beginning we have Novice Capt`n Martin, somewhere with his Ship in Space. You sense it? Oh yes, the „Novice“ here is Programm. Capt`n Martin did it. He brought his Ship into heap, big Trouble and now, yep you sense it, it is going down. But thank God you have MARBLE. MARBLE is a self confident and cheeky rolling Rescue Pod. She is your last best hope to survive this selfmade Mess. While you try to escape this Mess MARBLE will help you with instructions and cheeky Comments. Yes, don`t get me wrong but i bet all my money that MARBLE is enjoying this Situation. Very soon you will discover that your rolling speaking Pod have a nice ability. You can fog! No, no joke. You really can fog, more exactly fire fog. And you will need it. At first, of course you sense it, to quench fire on your way. Did i mention that the ship is burning? No? but now. Second you can use your Fog to manipulate Light Beams to jump or roll on them . Sounds funny, eh? It is….. but tricky. BEAM is, yes you already sense it, a tricky but high addicting Puzzle Plattformer with amazing Sounds and Scores and also very nice Graphics. And yes i said HIGH addicting. BEAM has the legendary „Heroes of Might and Magic“ Effect. JUST … ONE … MORE … ROUND! No, BEAM has no Rounds but Levels. And you want to finish, you want to beat that Level, you want to get further and further, you want … okay, simply beat that Game, eh? These Levels are Ship Sections and believe me, they will drive you crazy, because at first you have to master to control MARBLE. You will say: Uh, how hard can it be to control a simple Ball? Well, it is no simple Ball, it is MARBLE. First i tried Mouse and Keyboard. After 10 Minutes i bite into my Laptop….. My Controller was smiling at me and so i gave it another try. Andi t worked wonderfull. Don`t get me wrong, you can play it with Mouse and Keyboard but for me it was much easier with the Controller. Well and BEAM got me. Easy to play, harder to master. Challenging but never unfair. After i got MARBLE under Control it was easy to fog my way through the Ship. You`re rolling in Plattformer Style but in well designed 3D Areas. Find switches, Change the light Colours, find exits, remove obstacles and survive. BEAM, yes you sense it, is a really unique Game. I never played something like this before. No overacting, BEAM is a Masterpiece. Everythings fits very well, never unfair, addicting and not to forget the Highlights, the conversation of MARBLE and Martin. Thanks dear Developer for this amazing Experience. I thought in all these years i played all kind of Games but you teach me i was wrong. Thank you very much. If you, dear Reader, like Plattformers, Puzzles, nice Graphics and great Sounds and are curious of MARBLE, then this is absolutly for you. Thank you for Reading. Very nice graphics, lovingly designed levels. At some levels you may despair, but it is also doable for not so gifted players. The game time of around 7 hours is more for experienced players, with the current levels I expect around 10 hours of fun. I really like Martin and MARBLE's puns. Totally worth the price, it's a well thought challenging game that you should buy and play ;)
___________________________ Pretty good and hard puzzle game, you're playing as a MARBLE aka ball that roll through levels and interacting with unique mechanic - Beams, that makes a ball to bounce off them or glide or stick to it for example. Game has a pretty simple plot, but the OST and ambient are very well done and fits the game just right. I spent 17 hours at the full first playthrough for 2 chapters, 3rd chapter is still in development sadly. In it's current state you can beat the game in 4 hours (there's even a Steam achievement for it) but it might be hard to master the movement of a ball in the early stages of a game. The developers are fixing bugs and improving some hard levels pretty fast and you can even see how they doing it on their dev streams. Recommend to buying.
Beam is an interesting and challenging game. This is one of those games that deserves more attention from the community. The gameplay is good, the obstacles could be challenging. This game also has spoken voices while playing. That is a great addition. Some gameplay here: https://youtu.be/Si7u85uxJI4
The game takes too much precision, which is very difficult with a keyboard and mouse. After about 10 times of doing the same load over and over....you finally succeed only to have your pod explode on structural failure....then guess what....start all over again....blah! After hours of play, still on second level...blek! You can't save your progress, a bitter failure for a game this difficult.
Intro
It's a puzzle platformer that is true to its name. Play the game and you will see why. I'm not spoiling for ya.
Pros
- it's a new kind of concept for platformer
(no, I haven't not played portal, though people told it it's like portal but since I've not played it, it is new to me)
- I really love (mega love) the interactions between the characters - Nice story - nice progression of difficulty of stages - constant introduction of new elements - allow players to find shortcuts - constant dev stream - dev is interested when someone stream their game
Cons
- some parts when stuck require to restart stage - this next point is my own personal experience (
Due to the low CPU power of my pasocom, the game itself lag when i play and stream in low graphics. It also has blackscreen when i alt tab when i was loading though audio was working.
)
Conclusion
The game on its own is something that is good. What makes this game better is knowing that the game developer is interested in improving their game and fixing their game whenever bugs are reported, does on stream bug fix, and visits people who stream their game. Knowing this passion makes me, someone who plays the game, want to play it to my best and i did just that.
The gameplay is easily explained: You roll a ball, you spray fog towards lightbeams with different properties and you navigate through the levels. But from the very beginning you notice that it's not as easy as it sounds. Not only do you have to time your jumps and the fog correctly, you also have to find you way through the levels. Which should be easy in a 2.5D game, right? Not quite, as you can also rotate the camera at certain points. This adds lots of depth to the levels and makes the game much more complex than it seems at first. All in all it's a fun puzzle platformer with a small touch of metroidvania!
Now you´re thinking in [strike]portals[/strike] ... ähhhm ... BEAMS
"Is it going to take loooooong?" If you wait for Portal 3 ... maybe, if you´re looking for your next challenging experience, no, you found it! I can´t point my finger on it, but I have so strong portal-vibes with this game. So if you liked Portal, Beam might be your next game. Instead of portals (and funny sticky gluey fluids) you have beams, emerging from kristalls with varios colors. Each color have its own unique capabilitys you can activate temporarily. And also instead of trying to kill you, the AI´s job is to save you from a collapsing starship, while you are rolling around in a mobile rescue pod, called MARBLE. What´s not kind of an easy task, because your charakter is an impulsive chatterbox. And thats the foundation for a lot of the humor in the game. Technically, the game have very good graphics for a title in this pricesegment and is fully dubbed on a professionel level and have an awesome soundtrack! I had no bugs so far, just one time, I glitched in a box and exploded. But I have to admit, I was very hyperactive with jumping and pushing stuff around, so, no hard feelings. Beside that, no crashs or breakdowns (except my mental breakdowns probably :D ) Only 2% are smart enough to finish this game!!!!1!11einseinself Yeah, I liked to mobile-game-clickbait a bit, but believe me, this game is not for the faint hearted. If you have to think in portals in Portals, in Beam, you have to think in beams BUT also you need good controller skills, good timing and a very high frustration tolerance. So, if you are looking for a hardcore challange with good graphics and a good sence of humor, this is your game, enjoy! :)
Challenging puzzle game with beautiful visuals. It has unique and quite interesting game mechanics. You play as a ball (escape pod), moving through a crashed space ship with the help of light beams. Can be a bit tricky to play with mouse & keyboard, but I'm really looking forward to trying it out with a gamepad. The main character and his pod have some fun conversations. Can't wait to see how it ends!
