If you're a fan of Bumper Balls from Mario Party with some added zing, this game is fun. It's couch co-op, and I'd really recommend having more than two people when playing. The game is a deathmatch between two or more people, wherein the objective is to bump each other into spikes along the side of the screen. Holding a button sucks in air, and releasing let's it go, letting you rocket into an opponent. This is similar to Bumper Balls from the Mario Party franchise, but from a top down perspective with an added mechanic to boost yourself instead of just holding a direction. There are multiple characters with their own stats (they're all very minor differences, to be honest). Stages are randomly selected, each having their own set of specific hazards: an under water level has a fish that'll gnaw and you and freeze you, a space level featuring a meteor that will crash into you, and a few others. Some walls are covered to hide the spikes, which will be revealed after you bump into them. Sometimes this is a plain solid wall, other times it's a spring that'll launch you back at your opponent (or, more often than not, more spikes). This is all accompanied by a rather cute chiptune soundtrack that somewhat reminds me of Kirby. It's just a happy little game. The longevity of this game, however, is short. After a few rounds, it gets old pretty quick, and myself and friends found ourselves wanting to transition to something else. That's not to say the game isn't fun, it's that you're going to be doing almost the exact same thing over and over; changing it up with the different types of characters doesn't really entice repeating, either. The stages cycle through pretty fast (I don't remember how many different ones there are, but I think it's less than five). This game shines as an in between to something else, like say other quick deathmatch games, such as Gangbeasts or Stick Fight. While this is another case of me wishing Steam had a neutral option, I would still recommend this game if you're looking for a bit of filler during a get together. It very easy to pick up and play, so those that aren't accustomed to playing video games will be able to join in without a problem.
I seriously regret purchasing this game. I opened it and played it for three minutes, and, honestly, I felt that I had seen everything BATTLLOON had to offer. My refund request was denied since I purchased the game too long ago, so I reinstalled it just to hit the time requirement to write this. I mean, sure, it's polished enough, but it's so barebones. There's so many better deals at this price point. I would only recommend BATTLLOON if you love party games and you have multiple controllers and you have people to play with, or if you can get people over Remote Play Together (with the typical Remote Play Together caveat of a strong internet connection). Even with all of those, I doubt anyone will get more than an hour out of this game. Some kind of single-player or two-player co-op content with AIs was desperately needed here. It's funny, because the tutorial/practice option technically does provide that needed content, but it's obviously not enough. As of this review, NamaTakahashi has gone on to develop ElecHead and tiny cactus studio has gone on to develop Super Glitter Rush, both of which are single-player games but appear to be incredible deals when compared to BATTLLOON. I'm really happy to see the developers have moved on to create more and better games, because they clearly have some incredible talent. I would strongly recommend picking up ElecHead or Super Glitter Rush instead of wasting your money here on a game with such little content.
A bit pricey for the content, but it's quality content nonetheless... I would recommend getting this at a sale It's one of my son's favorite games and I've enjoyed playing it a lot!
Please can someone tell me how to play it with other people . I have really try it but there is no multiplayer:(
Although a very fun experience, the variety of gameplay is very lacking: quite frankly you can find more expansive games, at least in terms of content, on Newgrounds. There's also a distinct lack of online multiplayer, which could easily be rectified by adding in CPU opponents for a much richer singleplayer experience (which the game currently lacks any content for).
Very fun local party game, however not much content
Possibly most underrated Game. Really great fun to play with multiple people. Great party game. Also bought it on Switch. Simple fun.
cute but could need online multiplayer
There is no online play for this game, so you can't play with your friends; or anyone for that matter, unless you plug in controllers to your own pc box to play at your own house. Fun, cute game, but no way to actually play with people so it isn't worth the PC purchase.
